Mine to Protect Chapter 94: NOT LEAVING WITHOUT HER

*Derek*

Once the words are out, I collapse on the floor, the guards pulling the chain with force trying to drag me back to my feet, but my legs don’t really want to cooperate. I lie there, feeling ashamed, defeated and desperate, gazing at my kitten, like I could protect her just by staring at her.

One of the guards goes to pick her up, to take her away. No, I can’t let him.

I growl menacingly, slowly standing up, swaying on wobbly legs.

“Stay away from her!” My voice is no louder than a whisper, but they can hear me, and they can hear the threat in my voice.

“Or what?” the guard snickers, picking Hazel up in his arms, while smiling victoriously.

I growl again furious, this time someone hits me on my leg, making me fall to my knees, while other guards start punching and kicking me without mercy. I try to block and lay some good blows of my own, but the silver chain and the bullets have made me too weak, and the silver choke chain is limiting my air supply.

Amidst the chaos, I hear a man shout in agony, and then a female voice yelling,

“Leave him the fuck alone!”

I would recognize that voice anywhere, my kitten, she’s awake.

*Hazel*

“Hazel, I love you.”

I hear Derek’s voice whispering that he loves me, and I should be happy, but somehow, I feel the contrary of happy, I feel desperate and heartbroken. Something is wrong, Derek needs me, I can feel it, I know that if I don’t wake up now, I might never see him again.

I gather all my strength and push away this fog that is pressing me down. I slowly gather my bearings, and I find myself in the arms of a stranger, who’s smirking at something going on in my peripheral vision.

I don’t waste time, acting on the principle of “hit first and ask questions later”, I headbutt the smirking stranger, wiping that stupid smirk off his face, and then punch him repeatedly, making him drop me, and that’s when I need him in his family jewels, sending him whining on the floor. My blows wouldn’t have done much to a normal werewolf, but luckily, he is just a human, while I am a werewolf, and I am stronger.

I turn to see what’s the commotion behind me, and I see a number of guards hitting a man on the ground; my heart shutters when I recognize that man and see the silver chain draped around his neck.

“Leave him the fuck alone!” I roar in rage.

How dare they? Treating my mate, the love of my life like he is a punchbag, placing a collar on his neck, like he’s some kind of dog? I am the only one who’s allowed to put my mate on a leash!

“The white wolf is awake!” one of the guards yells.

“Take her down! She is still under silver!” another one follows.

We’ll see about that!

I am so angry I could burn down this whole place, reduce it to small particles of dust, but I would kill everyone in the process, so it wouldn’t be very helpful.

I channel my powers to my wrists, where the silver cuffs are, suppressing my powers, but not today, today not even your stupid silver cuffs will work, because you pissed me off great time. You touched the one person you shouldn’t have, and now you’ll pay the consequences.

The silver melts down my wrists, falling drop by drop down on the floor. I should feel some pain, but I don’t, I am just too furious, too focused on destroying all the people who dared lay their dirty fingers on my beloved mate.

When my wrists are completely free, I advance towards Derek and the guards, one of them is pointing a gun at Derek’s head, telling me to stay back, otherwise he’ll shoot him.

I’d love to see him try.

I cover Derek with a shield, from head to toe, like a whole-bodysuit, stupid me for not thinking of this solution earlier, I could have protected all our warriors like this!

I shield myself and Alice too and take another two steps towards them.

The gun goes off, but the bullet never hits its target, it disappears into dust, under the disbelieving eyes of the guard holding the pistol.

“You are the first to go,” I tell him, while snapping my fingers, and he’s reduced to ashes.

The other guards stand there horrified and terrified, before they start firing bullets both at me and Derek, pity they don’t work on us anymore.

With one shove of my hand, I reduce them all to ashes, and hurry towards Derek, who’s now sitting on the floor, trying to get the silver chain off his neck.

I help him take it off, and then hug him tightly, sitting between his legs. He hugs me back with equal force, and we just stand like that for a few moments, listening to each other’s heartbeats, calming our raging emotions.

“I thought I’d lose you forever,” Derek whispers in my hair.

“I thought the same, but we are still here, aren’t we?” I say with a grin.

Derek moves back, shaking his head. “I don’t really know where you get the energy to smile, in the situation we are.”

I get up and extend my hand to help him up.

“Come on, Alpha, we still have someone to rescue.”

Derek takes my hand and gets to his feet, but I can see he’s in pain, he’s not his usual powerful self.

“I think you should take Alice above ground, we can’t just leave her here, it will take her a while to wake up, they gave her a huge dose of wolfsbane,” I say, while using my laser to cut the silver cuffs off her wrists.

“I am not leaving you here, you are coming above ground with us; we can try to rescue Macy another time,” Derek says bossily, grabbing me by my arm, like he is afraid I will bail on him.

“No, I am not leaving here until I have found her,” I reply stubbornly, my eyes blazing green.

Derek is going to come out with an angry retort, his eyes blazing blue, when the door to the elevators’ hall bursts open, five of our warriors bursting through it.

“Thank the Goddess, Alpha, Luna, you are both ok,” Derek second in command, his name is Ryder, I think, says.

“What’s the situation? Where is everyone? Any casualties?” Derek asks urgently.

“There are few bad injuries, but no deaths on our part. The rest of the troop is evacuating some prisoners we have found on the 5th floor and are exploring the other floors.”

I see Derek relax a little at the news, he cares for his pack, and it would have broken his heart if someone had lost his life in this mission.

“Please, take Alice out of here, she’s been poisoned with a high dose of wolfsbane,” Derek says, while passing an unconscious Alice to Ryder, who scoops her up gingerly in his arms. He stares at Alice for a while, before getting into motion, and leaving where he came from.

“Go with Ryder, and help him take Alice to safety,” Derek orders the other guards, while I put a shield on each one of them. In a whim, I decide to make their shields look like a Stormtroopers’ armors.

Derek gives me a side look.

“Seriously, save some of your power for the important stuff.”

“Always the fun police,” I reply with a huff, unhappy that he’s spoiling the only fun I can find in this dangerous situation.
