*Hazel*

I get off quickly and follow her down the corridor. It’s amazing how my body feels light and strong, my wolf healed me, I still can’t wrap my head around it. Does it mean that she’s completely awake now? That I can use my powers?

We get to an elevator, my mom swipes a card on the small screen, and the elevator screen illuminates, showing a down arrow, indicating that the elevator is coming down.

“How did you escape?” I inquire again.

“When they pushed you out of the room, they freed me of the silver chains, and I took the opportunity to use my powers to block the air in their throats, until they passed out. Then I took one of their suits and key cards and came to find you. I think that woman was not paying any more attention to the camera, because she did not send anyone to stop me.”

“But haven’t they injected you with wolfsbane? It should have inhibited your powers?”

“White wolves are not as susceptible to wolfsbane as normal wolves are, but the injection did greatly limit my powers, and my ability to heal. After I knocked the guards out, I took one of the syringes they used on you and injected myself with the antidote. Now I have my powers back in full force, and I am going to make them regret messing with me. But first, I need to get you out of here.”

The elevator doors open, luckily it is empty, we get on, and my mom swipes the card again and presses the button for the ground floor. We are at the seventh level underground, 7 floors to go, let’s hope no one calls the elevator on our way up.

“If you stay, I’ll stay too, I can help you, my wolf healed me, she must have woken.”

Sixth floor, fifth floor. Damn this elevator is slow!

“No, Hazel, it is too dangerous! You don’t know your powers; you can’t control them. You will just get in the way, and make me lose my focus, getting us both killed.”

I feel hurt at her words, I know she is right, but it still makes me feel useless.

Fourth, third. Bing. The elevator stops and the doors open. Fuck!

Outside the doors a tall blonde woman in a white coat and at least a dozen guards are gazing at us, a smug smile on the woman’s perfect features. She looks somewhat familiar, like I have seen her before somewhere, I just can’t put my finger on it.

“Well, well, what a surprise! Mother and daughter on the run!”

That voice, she’s the poltergeist! Instead of feeling afraid, rage fills me to the brim, it’s time to slash someone’s throat out!

My mom immediately uses her powers to create an air wall between them and us, just in time to have their wolfsbane darts bounce back before they can reach us.

“Do you really think I would let you leave? I played a game, I let you think you could escape, just to see what you could do, and you didn’t disappoint. Wolfsbane doesn’t seem to affect mommy dear much. And Hazel is all healed, thanks to her wolf. Amazing considering you are wolf-less!”

“I don’t know what you are aiming at, but you are not going to get it!” mom says acidly, before letting out a huge wave of power which sends us all on our backs. She then moves her arms upwards, palms up, like she is trying to lift something, the elevator trembling and screeching ominously.

“You can’t escape, the elevator is blocked. There is no other way out,” the blonde says, getting up from the floor.

“We’ll see about that!” mom exclaims boldly.

The guards are already up, and ready to fire again, now that mom is concentrated on moving the elevator, the air shield is no longer in place to protect us.

I put myself in front of my mom, to shield her from the darts; just as a few hit me on my legs and torso, I feel an even stronger wave of power coming from behind me, the elevator shakes badly, the screeching sound it produces hurting my ears, I feel the brakes give way, and the elevator shots up like an arrow.

I crouch down to the floor, the upward fast motion and the wolfsbane getting into my system making it impossible to stand. We reach the top floor in no time, and mom uses her powers again to wrench the outer elevator doors open.

Fresh air meets my lungs, and I feel like I haven’t been outside forever.

The welcoming smell of white musk and vanilla reaches my nose, making my heart bit faster, Derek is near, I can feel his presence, he’s come to save us!

*Derek*

My men surround the facility’s perimeter, ready to attack at my signal. We have already taken out the sentinels, cut off the fence’s electricity, and alerted the Court of Alphas, which has sent a contingent of their soldiers for backup.

It took me one whole long day to arrange everything, I wish I could have dealt with it faster. Earlier I could feel Hazel’s pain and heartache, it took my whole not to shift and barge through that fence, electricity or no electricity. I will make them pay for everything they have done to her, no one hurts my mate and lives.

Suddenly an ear-splitting shrill sound comes from the building, accompanied by a thunderous whooshing sound, like something is coming up fast from the underground. A missile?

“Everyone on alert!” I boom through the link.

The whooshing sound reaches our ground level, accompanied by the deafening sound of metal crushing on metal, and then everything goes silent. The sweetest smell of mango and coconut fills my nostrils. Hazel! Was that noise her doing?

I don’t waste any time, I order to attack, and then climb the fence as fast as I can, landing on the other side with a big jump.

The whooshing sound echoes again, only this time it’s directed downwards, even faster than before, ending in a huge crash at the bottom, muffled by the terrain at my feet.

I shift and sprint into a run, I need to find Hazel, before something else happens to her.

I round the building and find myself face to face with the love of my life, she’s on all fours on the ground, swaying slightly, like she’s going to faint any moment. I shift back to my human form and hurry to her side, enclosing her in my arms, finally feeling some kind of relief at her closeness, after one whole day of agony. She’s covered in blood, but it doesn’t look fresh, I check her body for injuries and find at least six darts embedded in her pale skin; I pull them out making her whimper, the smell of wolfsbane drifting to my nostrils.

She laces her arms behind my neck, hugging me back, but even her hug is feeble. She inhales my scent deeply, hot tears streaming down her face.

“I thought I would die there; I would never get to see you again.” Her words uttered between sobs cut me deeply, what the hell have they done to her? I try to keep my rage in, but is becoming more and more difficult by the minute, I need to kill someone, I need to spill blood and bath in it.
