Mine to Protect Chapter 56: ALPHA COMMAND

“Ok, just make sure she eats,” he says, kissing my forehead and leaving to meet the guests, clearly feeling relieved that he has someone watching me.

Do I really need an escort to go eat in the kitchen? Derek protectiveness is becoming ridiculous, I’ll need to have a good talk with him when we are alone. I stomp to the kitchen, now feeling irritated; I kindly ask the staff to make a plate for me and one for Lukas of what they have, and they comply happily and quickly, which I am very grateful for, then I sit down at one table, while Lukas sits opposite me. I don’t talk, I just tuck in my food and continue eating until the plate is empty.

“You eat fast, and you don’t talk much, what’s there more to know about you, Just Hazel?” Lukas says trying to be funny.

“Your jokes are redundant, and you eat too slowly, there’s not much to know about me, Alpha Walker.”

“Derek was right, you are a feisty one. I wonder what got you so pissed though, you looked fine a few minutes ago? Missing your mate makes you grumpy?”

I really want to smack him one, but seeing that he is Derek’s friend, a guest and an Alpha, I refrain to do that.

“I am pissed because you men think that females can’t take care of themselves, are less then you bundle of muscles. How am I not capable of eating by myself in the kitchen, please explain?”

He raises his eyebrows at me, apparently shocked by my tantrum.

“It’s not that we don’t think you are capable, you got abducted and tortured just a few days ago, you can’t blame Derek for being a little overprotective. Give him some time. As for me, I just wanted to help, he needed to meet those Alphas, but could not bear to leave you alone, so I stepped in,” he replies matter-of-factly, raising his shoulders.

“In reality, there’s also another reason why I offered to babysit you.”

Now it’s my time to raise my eyebrows.

“Did you know that your mom and my mom were very good friends? I am really sorry for what happened to her, she will be missed. My mom said she’ll come to the funerals too.”

That’s news, but it doesn’t surprise me, I know nothing about my parents’ lives as werewolves, for sure they must have had some friends and relatives.

“I didn’t know!” I answered surprised.

“Yes, they come from the same pack, they grew up together, then my mom found her mate in the Moon Walkers pack, and your mom left to live with the humans, but they kept in touch all the time, your mom would come visit now and then, she even brought you along a few times.”

“Really?”

“Yes! You were around four of five, so maybe you don’t remember, I was eight the last time you came to visit together. I remember you were this cute little doll with huge green eyes, sand blond hair, and a sweet smile. Well, you haven’t changed much, only your hair is darker, and you smile less. You were always following me around calling me Lukas, because you couldn’t pronounce the S properly. You even made me promise that we will get married when we get older. Our moms always thought that we would turn out to be mates, it’s a pity it didn’t end up this way.” He finishes with a small laugh, a hint of sadness in it.

“Wow, so now you are here to take me up on that promise?” I asked laughing.

He smirks then becomes all serious.

“No, I just wanted to let you know that you have a friend in me, and if you ever need anything, you can come to me. You’ll need all the help you can get.”

Right, he must know my mom was a white wolf, thus that I am one too.

“Thank you, I really appreciate it.” I say with sincerity. “Actually, there’s something you can help me with. I need to go to my mom’s old house to fetch something, it is really important, but I don’t know where the house is located, and in which pack’s territory.”

“It’s the Moon Shade Pack, it’s our neighboring pack. I can take you there on my way back, but we will have to run the idea by Derek first.”

“Yes! Thank you so much!” I exclaim elated, grabbing both his hands in mine. Finally, something is going right!

“Look at our new Luna, flirting with another Alpha right under her mate’s nose, in plain sight. Have you no shame?”

I recognize her by her voice, without even needing to turn back to see her in the face. Grace. This woman really has it out for me, not even me becoming their Luna has changed that snarky personality of hers, she needs to learn her place, and this time I will teach her.

Lukas goes to stand, a threatening expression on his face, his aura changed from friendly and playful to deadly and menacing.

“Don’t you dare intervene!” I snarl at him, my gaze pinning him where he stands. He looks shocked but do as I say.

I turn around, letting out my wolf’s aura, my eyes shining bright green, I walk towards Grace, who is just a few steps away, and I stop right in front of her.

“I am tired of your mean words and accusations, you are just jealous that Derek chose me, and honestly, you should have had it coming, I am his fated mate for crying out loud. Get over it, I am your Luna now, start showing some respect, or be prepared to move to another pack, because I won’t tolerate any more of your attitude.”

I didn’t even wait to see her reaction, I get back to the table and sit down, still pissed at her words, but happy I could stand for myself. I hear her stomping out of the kitchen, let’s hope she got the message into that thick skull of hers.

“How did you do that?” Lukas suddenly asks me, curiosity written all over his face.

“What? Putting her in her place?” I ask, not understanding what he’s asking.

“No. You Alpha commanded me not to intervene just now. I am the one who usually Alpha commands others, and I must say that it sucks to be on the receiving end. You are no Alpha, and certainly not my Alpha, how the heck did you do that?”

He seems kind of annoyed that I commanded him, but I honestly didn’t do it on purpose, I just wanted him to let me handle my own.

“Look, I don’t know, I didn’t even know I was commanding you. I’ve just got my wolf, even I don’t understand the extent of her powers yet.”

“Well, that’s some cool power you have there. A woman able to make me submit, it’s kind of sexy.”

“Get your head out of the gutter, this sexy woman is already taken.” Derek voice carries through the kitchen.
