Mine to Protect Chapter 89: DRAINED

*Hazel*

Suddenly, two guards barge into the room, probably alerted by the loud screams, and stand completely shocked at the scene before them. When they come back to their senses, they start yelling against Cindy,

“What have you done? Where did you get the weapon?”

Cindy shakes her head violently, trying to make them understand that she didn’t do anything.

“It wasn’t her, idiots! There’s a breach! Alert security! The white wolf.” The pig shouts while grimacing in pain.

Both guards pale for a second, then one of them sprints down the corridor, while the other grabs Cindy by her arm, and hauls her in the opposite direction. I follow them, and I end up into a big room, more a dormitory than a room, there are at least ten bunk beds 3 levels high each. The room doesn’t have anything else apart from the metal beds, and it looks quite shabby. I can’t see any window, so I suppose we are underground, like in the other facility. I can see only women in this room, all pretty and young, same as Cindy, and it does not take a genius to understand what they are making them do.

I want to spend more time watching Cindy, make sure that she is ok, that they are not being tortured or something, but I need to hurry, I don’t know how long I can stay in this state, I need to find information before it is too late.

I walk down the corridor, counting the doors, hoping I will be able to find my way back to Cindy’s room, when I’ll come back in person. I ended up in front of two elevators, great, so her room is 13 doors down from the elevators on the right, I must remember it.

I waited for a couple of minutes, but the elevators didn’t move. I was hoping I could get to another floor by taking an elevator lift, but today I am out of luck. I go through a couple of doors, seeing stuff that I hope I could unsee, and finally find the stairs. The door that leads to the stairs also has a keypad, so I suppose a code is necessary to access those too. Luckily, I can just pass through.

I got to the next floor, and find another similar white corridor with doors, so I decide to snoop to the next floor. Here I find different scenery, it looks like an office, with small open cubicles, one for each station, and a big office separated by a glass wall at the end of the hall.

No windows here either, so I suppose we are still underground.

I make my way to the big office, to take a look at the bosses of these facilities, maybe I am able to recognize someone. My jaw drops when I see through the glass a blonde woman in a white coat, her blond curls cascading down her back perfectly, like she is shooting a hair product commercial.

My mind goes blank with rage at the sight, that woman, she is the one who tortured mom and me, she is still well and alive. That bitch!

I wish I could summon enough power to burn her to ashes right this moment, but unfortunately, I am feeling too worn off to, this materialization is taking a lot of energy out of me.

I get inside the office, to listen to what they are saying, and to find any clue of our location, when I hear the woman say,

“Don’t worry, let her roam the facility, there isn’t anything she hasn’t seen already. I am sure she will try to break her friend free, and when she does, we’ll catch her. She is an idiot for coming here on her own accord, she escaped me once, but I will not let her escape me another time.”

This woman is really asking for it, when I come back, I make sure she’ll die a painful, agonizing death; she will pay for everything she has done.

I snoop around the office unseen, and on one monitor I find the 3D image of the facility, each door showing a red or green dot, although I am not sure what it stands for, I wish I had a camera with me, to snap a picture to show Derek later.

I still haven’t found any address or indication of where this facility is located, and I am feeling my energy dwindling to dangerous levels; I won’t be able to keep up this materialization much longer.

I decide that I need to try to get out, maybe I can recognize the place when I am outside; but just when I am leaving the phone rings, and the woman picks up, answering,

“Woodrock, what is it?”

Woodrock? Could it be that the facility is underground on Cindy’s pack lands?

The call ends without providing any other useful information, so I sprint out of the office and up the stairs. I climb at least six flights of stairs, equal to three floors, before I reach the top. Outside there’s a high metal fence and grass; a forest of thick trees surrounds us, and far away on the left, I can see high mountains made of black rock, it’s the only detail that somehow gives away their average location.

Drained by the fatigue of overusing my powers, I drop to my knees, and then face down on the grass. I don’t even need to worry about how to get back, because without me doing anything, I am transported back to the safety of our room.

I open my eyes, and Derek is hovering over me, a panicked look on his face. It reminds me of when I woke up from that vision a few weeks ago, although it feels like it’s an eternity ago.

“Kitten, are you alright? Are you hurt? How do you feel?”

I can’t help laughing at his state of anxiety, one would think he is the one who just materialized himself in that facility.

“I am fine, just a little tired,” I tell him feebly, trying to get up into a sitting position, but failing miserably.

Derek gentlemanly helps me up supporting my weight, and scoops me up placing me on his lap, his arms encasing me in a sweet embrace, preventing me from falling. I feel safe and secure here, a stark difference from the situation I was in a couple of minutes ago.

“Kitten, you have to promise me that you won’t use this power again. At one point your body started glowing, and then your nose started bleeding, I thought you got caught and that you were trying to fight your way out. Then, before you came to, your body started convulsing, I thought you were going to die on me, I didn’t know what to do, I was this close to marking you again, to snap you out of it, and I don’t even know if it would have worked.”

Derek really sounds desperate, I feel guilty for putting him through that, he must have felt helpless and disoriented.

“I am sorry, Derek, I used too much of my power, and it drained my energy. But I am fine, I swear.”

“No, I don’t want you to ever use this power again.”

“I am sorry, but I can’t promise you that. Though I can promise you that I will not materialize again for such a long time, this was my first time, and I didn’t know my limits, I will be more careful the next time,” I reply sweetly but firmly, hoping that he can get my point.

“I knew you were going to say something like that, and I won’t push it, because I know that you won’t listen anyway,” Derek says annoyedly, running a hand through his hair.

I bypass his comment and decide to share with him what I have found out during my “trip”.

“Derek, the place they are keeping Cindy in, is a facility similar to the one mom and I were taken.”

I see Derek’s face go completely white at this piece of news.
