Mine to Protect Chapter 122: BREACHED

*Hazel*

I opened the window, worried that they would use some narcotic gas on me, and I noticed the fire escape stairs not far off on my right. The cornice of the building is narrow, but I should make it, it’s a short distance.

I climb up on the window seal and then I step on the cornice, making sure that it can hold my weight. I don’t look down, small step after small step I finally reach the fire escape, I climb on it, feeling relieved, and then I look down to assess the situation. The building is surrounded, and there’s police keeping the passersby at a distance, while armed men wearing black keep guard all around the perimeter.

There’s no way I can escape unseen from here, I must find another way. I keep my body lowered, and instead of going down the stairs, I climb up to the roof. Luckily it is a flat roof, with an elevator shaft in the middle. A low wall runs down the roof’s perimeter, and I lie down on the floor behind it, hoping that the warriors and the police on the ground won’t spot me.

I try to mind link Damon and Alice again, but nothing, I still can’t connect with them. Why? What can I do now?

I think about my powers, anything that could help me?

And then I remember that day in the lab, when I materialized, and Derek was able to see me. I could try that, although now that the bond is broken, I am not sure he will be able to.

I concentrate on materializing where Derek is, and in the blink of an eye, I appear in his car, on the passenger seat.

“Derek!” I called him.

He nearly gets a heart attack, and accidentally swerves the car to the left, getting a symphony of blaring horns in response.

“Hazel, fuck! You scared the hell out of me!” he says, while putting the car into parking on the side of the road.

Then he gets his bearings.

“How did you get here?”

He notices that I am only a materialization, and immediately understands that something is not right.

“What happened? Where are you?” His voice is serious, and his gaze is sharp.

Alpha mode fully initiated. He’s so sexy when he’s like this.

“I am at my old company, it was a trap, Carol is dead, I have killed her, she is the one who told her mom that I am a white wolf, she wanted to hurt you too, she was just faking interest…”

I am not finished talking, but Derek places a hand on my mouth to shut me down, and I am amazed at the fact that he can touch me, even in this form, I can even feel the tingles.

“Your old company, were?”

“Rooftop.”

“How many?”

“I don’t know, maybe 100! And the police are with them.”

“Ok, I’ll be there in fifteen minutes, try to hide. Go now, don’t let them find you unconscious,” he orders, while speeding down the road, infringing every existing speed limit.

“Thank you, for helping me even if…”

Again, he doesn’t let me finish.

“Stay safe, I am coming, go now!”

He gives me an encouraging smile, even if I can feel he’s tense and worried. I nodded, and then disappeared from his car, coming to on the rooftop.

I don’t move from my hiding spot, hoping that Derek can get here soon, but after a few moments the elevator’s doors open, and ten men in black rush out of it. They spot me as soon as they get on the roof, so I get up from my lying position, move away from the edge of the roof, and make sure my shield is in place. Game on.

They point their weapons at me, but I know their bullets and darts can’t go through my shield, so I keep a relaxed stance. They fire, and as expected, nothing reaches Me, everything being intercepted and destroyed by my shield.

I decided I need to fight back, so I shift into my wolf, and attack them without mercy, giving the reigns completely to my wolf. While I am fighting these ten, the elevator opens again, and another dozen warriors come out, more join from the door leading to the roof from the stairs, and from the fire escape too.

There are too many for one-on-one combat, I need to use my powers, hoping that I don’t incinerate the roof too. Blast after blast I manage to annihilate all the aggressors, but the roof has been a little bit damaged too, and I don’t know how long it will hold, before it crumbles on the heads of some poor employees. I hope the building has been evacuated.

Other warriors come through the elevator door; they have an endless supply!

I take a few steps back, trying to put some distance between us, without noticing that I am close to the roof edge. Suddenly I feel a stubbing pain in my right shoulder, I look over my shoulder and see a dart embedded there. This shouldn’t be possible, I still have my shield on, how could the dart pass through?

Another dart stubs me in my right flank, and I know I need to get away from the edge, before they can strike me again. I feel my energy levels going down, and I know the darts must have been embedded in wolfsbane and other inhibiting substances. Shit! I have been too careless.

I blast the warriors, not giving them the chance to approach me, but more come from the stairs, the elevator and the fire escape, enclosing me in a circle. These though are not normal warriors, these are the mutants I have seen before, the ones with the red eyes, and on this roof, there are at least fifty of them, claws and fangs out, ready to attack.

I reinforce my shield, even though my legs are already trembling from the effort of staying upright and keeping my defenses up.

One of them comes forward, and swings his claws at me, I don’t even move, so sure that my shield will protect me, that at first, I can’t comprehend the pain of his claws slashing through my shoulder, blood splattering on my snow-white fur, painting it crimson.

How can this be possible? How can he go through my shield.

I see he’s ready to strike again, and I incinerate him with a blast. I shift back to human form, not able to keep my wolf form anymore, I am on my knees, the pain in my shoulder unbearable.

There are so many of them, I am not sure I will be able to incinerate them all.

I need help. Derek!

More come at me from all directions, I send blast after blast, my vital energy wavering under the strain and the blood loss.

I am losing consciousness; everything becomes a blur of movements which makes my head spin, until two strong hands cup my face firmly, two big blue eyes peer at me, and I focus on them, they make me feel grounded.

“Hazel, are you ok? Talk to me,” the blue eyes say, but the voice is distorted, like I am underwater, and I can’t hear sounds properly.

I just keep gazing at those beautiful eyes, until the darkness pulls me under.

…..

I wake up in a soft bed, covered in silk sheets that smell amazing; it must be the softener they have used, white musk and vanilla.

I sigh in approval, gathering the sheets in my arms and taking a good sniff, I love this fragrance! Mhhh!

I hear someone chuckle beside me, and my eyes fly open.
