Amelia was worn out from Nina's constant energy earlier.

Right now, she needed something cold to recharge before bed.

She had just pulled out the ice when Benjamin, walking over too, spotted her.

Benjamin asked, "What are you doing with the ice?"

Amelia blinked a few times and said, "I want to make a drink. Do you want some?"

Benjamin nodded.

Amelia mixed the drinks while sneaking glances at him.

She asked, "Benjamin, have you really never been in a relationship?"

Amelia had checked his background. The files said Benjamin had zero relationships.

Daniel had told her too—Benjamin was cold-blooded and clueless about caring for girls.

Even though she knew he hadn't dated, she still wanted to ask again.

Benjamin nodded. "Never. You?"

Amelia shook her head. "Me neither. I was way too busy before."

Before eighteen, she had to escape her original family, work part-time, study, and support herself.

After eighteen, she had that accident with Benjamin.

Once Nina came, all her energy went into supporting herself and raising Nina.

Romance never naturally occurred to her again.

The two chatted, and somehow Amelia started sharing bits of her past.

She talked about her old jobs, and as she spoke, she mentioned a guy.

"Oh yeah, back in high school, there was a classmate who was very kind to me.

"I got bullied a lot then, and he helped me out several times.

"He even brought me food once—I didn't take it. But he was genuinely a gentle person."

In high school, Amelia faced isolation and bullying—mostly malice.

So this one person who was kind to her—she always remembered him.

"That classmate—are you still in touch?" Benjamin took the drink Amelia handed him and asked casually.

Amelia smiled, "Nope. I didn't have a phone in high school, so no way to add contacts."

They talked about her high school days, and as they chatted, Amelia's phone on the counter suddenly lit up.

Amelia leaned over to check—it was a friend request.

And the name was exactly that classmate she'd just mentioned.

Amelia was shocked. "What a coincidence! I just talked about him, and now he's sending me a friend request. Where did he even get my number?"

Amelia was still marveling when a rapid patter of bare feet on the floor sounded.

Along with the footsteps came Nina's loud crying.

Nina, who hadn't been asleep long, had another bad dream.

This time, she dreamed that Freya got hurt.

At Nina's cry, Amelia heard it instantly.

She forgot the drink in her hand and rushed toward Nina, who had run out of her room.

"Nina, no crying. Mommy's here. Why are you awake?"

Amelia hurried over and scooped up Nina, whose chubby little feet were bare.

Seeing Nina's face full of tears broke Amelia's heart.

"I'm sorry. It's all Mommy's fault—I left you alone in the room. Nina, good girl, no more crying."

Amelia apologized over and over. Nina's cries softened a bit but didn't stop completely.

Nina sobbed with little hiccups.

She buried her plump face in Amelia's neck. When Benjamin came to take her, she wouldn't let him.

Right now, she only wanted Amelia.

Amelia gently patted her back. From the crying, she sensed something was wrong.

"Nina, did you have another bad dream?" she asked.

Amelia knew Nina too well.

If she had just woken up and couldn't find anyone, she wouldn't cry this long.

The moment Amelia asked, Benjamin's heart sank hard.

"That lady... bleeding."

In response to Amelia's question, Nina, eyes still closed from crying, said the words Amelia and Benjamin least wanted to hear.

"No yellow.

"Doctor... no doctor."
