Miracle Cutie Chapter 497: Softened Trevor's Tense Expression
Before he could say a word, he heard crying coming through the phone.
As soon as he recognized Nina's wail, Daniel's face turned cold. He broke into a full run.
Seconds later, Daniel burst into the ward. Nina was still lying face down on the floor, crying—she hadn't moved at all.
Noelle was sitting nearby. The second she saw Daniel, she put on a sick, queasy look, with a dark bruise already blooming on her forehead.
She acted like she'd gotten a concussion.
But Daniel didn't look at her even once.
He lifted Nina off the floor, his heart aching for her.
Daniel soothed gently, "Nina, don't cry. I'm here. Where did you hurt yourself? Let me check."
He held Nina close and kept asking softly.
Nina touched her cheek and sobbed, "Face hurt. Nina fall."
Daniel studied her little face carefully and blew softly on her cheek to ease the pain.
He said, "You fell on your cheek? I'm blowing it better. It'll stop hurting soon. How did this happen? Tell me."
Daniel only had eyes for Nina. He sat down beside Alice with her in his arms, then grabbed a tissue to wipe her tears.
As he wiped her face, Nina hiccuped through her sobs.
Nina cried, "She pull. Nina fall."
Nina said Noelle pulled her.
Daniel understood exactly what Nina meant.
After hearing her, he finally turned his gaze toward Noelle on the floor.
Noelle was still faking a concussion.
She felt his stare and looked up at him.
Noelle stammered, "I... I just wanted to bring Alice some snacks.
"But when I came in, this little girl pushed me. I lost my balance and fell.
"I hit my head. I'm so dizzy right now.
"I feel sick, too."
Daniel didn't buy a word of her fake discomfort.
He looked down at Nina and asked calmly, "Nina, did you push her down?"
Nina shook her head firmly.
She sniffled and said, "Nina no push. She fall. Nina no howd."
Nina was little, but she wasn't stupid at all.
She'd seen Noelle fall backward on purpose.
Both Daniel and Alice believed every word Nina said.
From Alice's angle, it would've been easy to be tricked.
But she trusted Nina completely.
Nina had been trying to push Noelle out, but she was far too small to knock an adult over that hard.
And Nina wasn't a mean kid.
Alice didn't defend Noelle, and Daniel felt no sympathy for her. Noelle's whole fake fall had been a waste.
When Alice didn't take her side, and Daniel refused to care, Noella panicked.
The room went quiet, and Daniel said coldly, "Aren't you leaving yet?"
If Nina hadn't been there, he would've told her to get lost.
Noelle had been called out. She didn't dare keep faking an injury.
She bit her lip, stood up, and left.
Once Noelle was gone, Nina stayed in Daniel's arms and moped for a little while longer.
When she finished pouting, she grabbed her kids' watch and started calling everyone she knew.
The doctors Daniel had brought were examining Alice, all gathered around her bed.
Nina walked over to the small sofa and made her calls alone.
She called a bunch of people and finally reached Nelson.
Nina said, "Nelson. Nina fall."
As she spoke, she touched her cheek again.
Her cheek had hurt badly, but there was no mark on it.
Nelson leaned close to the screen and stared carefully at her face.
He asked, "Does it still hurt?"
Nina replied, "Yeah."
The pain was already gone, but she wasn't about to admit that.
When Nelson heard she was hurt, he turned and said to Grace right away, "Mommy, can we go see Nina?"
Nelson and his parents were back in the country, too. He'd wanted to visit Nina even before her call.
Now that Nina had "fallen", he had to go see her even more.
Grace was arranging flowers in a vase behind him. She heard his request and agreed warmly, "Sure. I miss her, too. Let's go right now."
She was always quick to act—she stuck the rest of the flowers into the vase, then walked over to take Nelson out.
As the two headed for the door, Trevor walked out of the study and saw them. "Grace, are you two going out?"
Grace replied, "Yes."
She glanced at his face and could tell he wanted to come, too.
But she knew Trevor didn't like casual visits like this.
She hesitated for two seconds, then walked over to him.
Grace said softly, "I'll be back really soon. You can keep working. I know you have lots to do."
As she spoke, she took his hand and gave it a little gentle squeeze.
That small gesture softened Trevor's tense expression right away.
Trevor said, "Alright. Come back soon."
He watched the two walk out the door.
Grace still hadn't gotten all her memories back, but she no longer pulled away from Trevor.
