But Amelia had been too little back then. Benjamin had given her a piece of candy. She had not been able to chew it properly and had tried to swallow it whole, and she had choked.

Amelia had nearly choked to death on that candy.

Benjamin had been terrified too.

In the end, the adults had found them just in time and saved Amelia. Benjamin, his little face stern, had thrown all the milk candy away.

After the trouble, little Benjamin had gone home and locked himself in his room. He had refused to talk to anyone and would not let anyone speak to him.

His older brother, Samuel, had just turned five. He had come home from school and found Benjamin sulking. Benjamin had refused to come out for a long time. Samuel had stood outside the door, but Benjamin would not answer.

So he had tried to coax him with milk candy again.

This time, it had not worked.

Little Benjamin had seen the milk candy and had been so angry that he had nearly passed out.

Samuel had been frustrated by Benjamin's stubbornness, gritting his teeth. But in the end, it had been Samuel who went to coax him.

William, seeing Benjamin's terrible temper, had tried to take care of him himself so Samuel would not have to deal with it.

Benjamin hung up the phone.

Amelia, seeing his expression darken, asked tentatively, "Benjamin, what's wrong?"

Benjamin's handsome face was tense. He didn't explain much. He only said he needed to go to the hospital.

Nina had been clamoring to go out. But when she learned Benjamin was going to the hospital, she didn't insist on following.

She lifted her chubby little hand and waved at him.

"Daddy, bye!" she chirped.

After saying goodbye to her dad, Nina immediately turned to her mom.

"Mommy, find Hawee!" she demanded. The "Hawee" she meant was Harry.

Amelia didn't want to let her go.

"Nina, be a good girl and play at home, okay?" Amelia coaxed. "We can call Nelson. Nelson can come play with you.

"Or we can invite Harry to our house. We have lots of toys here to play with."

Amelia really wasn't comfortable letting Nina go out. She suggested having other kids come over instead.

But Nina wouldn't have it. Nina was stubborn. She absolutely had to go find Harry.

Amelia tried to reason with her for a little while, but Nina quickly ran out of patience. The frustrated little girl threw herself on the floor, crying and kicking up a fuss.

"Find Hawee! Waaah, find Hawee!"

Nina cried, rolled around, and kept calling for Harry.

Even Catherine was drawn by the commotion and came to see what was happening. Seeing Nina lying on the floor looking utterly heartbroken, Catherine spoke up for her.

"If she wants to see her friend, let her go," Catherine said. "Wanting to play with friends is natural for her."

Catherine remembered her sister had been the same way. Sienna had loved making friends.

Amelia's head was buzzing from Nina's crying. She crouched down to coax her, but it was no use.

Once Nina started a tantrum like this, it looked like it would take at least half an hour to calm her down.

Amelia crouched there for a moment longer, then finally gave in.

"Alright, alright. Mommy will take you to find Harry," Amelia conceded.

Nina, who had been granted her wish, took a second to process it. She cried twice more before stopping.

"Mommy, find Hawee?"

"Yes. Now get up. We need to change your clothes first. Your clothes are all dirty."

Nina seemed to need her clothes changed countless times a day. Luckily, she had a never-ending supply, since family and friends kept buying them for her.

Amelia picked out a new outfit and changed Nina into it.

Once dressed, Nina couldn't wait to get out the door. The moment she stepped outside, her little face lit up with happiness, all traces of her earlier mood gone.

Seeing her so cheerful, Amelia could only sigh in resignation.

Nina had finally managed to get her way and go out. Benjamin, who had left earlier, was already at the hospital.

Benjamin knew which room Lester was in. He headed straight for it.

Before entering the room, he spotted Daniel lurking outside like he was up to no good.

Daniel saw Benjamin approaching and hurried over.

"Benjamin, you're here too," Daniel said. "Did Lester... tell you as well? Have you seen the paternity test? I had someone check it for me. It's real, not photoshopped."

Daniel was still rambling on about the test, holding the report.

Benjamin snatched the document from his hands and looked it over carefully.

After reading it, he stuffed the paternity test into his pocket. Then, he walked into the room.

Lester was in the hospital bed, leaning against his pillow and looking at a tablet.

Hearing the door, Lester looked up. Benjamin's gaze met his at the same moment.

Lester raised an eyebrow, giving Benjamin a thorough once-over from head to toe.

This time, he looked very carefully.
