Amelia said, "I've kept all your Christmas money safe for you. I'll give it back to you when you're bigger."

Nina tried to remember but couldn't tell if she'd forgotten.

Her sobbing paused for a second.

A moment later, she asked, "Daddy give money?"

Amelia fell silent.

Benjamin actually hadn't.

She explained patiently, "Daddy hadn't met you last Christmas, so he couldn't give you any. This Christmas, Daddy, Grandpa, Uncle Daniel, and Auntie Chloe will all give you some, okay? Stop crying."

Amelia coaxed her for a long time and finally gave her a snack to cheer her up.

With snacks in hand, Nina stopped crying and ran off to play with Barry again.

Within two minutes, Amelia heard her giggling loudly.

Nina's mood changed faster than the weather—one minute pouring rain, the next sunny.

Amelia sometimes got tired just watching her, but Nina never seemed to run out of energy.

Nina held a few small cookies and walked over to Tanner, being unusually nice. "Eat?"

Tanner looked down at her cookies.

She squeezed the cookies tightly in her chubby hand. She sounded generous, but her grip told a different story.

Tanner, who never cared for kids' snacks, suddenly held out his hand to take one.

Nina froze.

She was such a little miser that she rarely shared her food.

If anyone tried to take her snacks, she'd start crying.

So, when she offered food to the adults, they wouldn't take it, but they would still praise her for sharing.

This was the first time someone actually took what she offered.

Tanner said calmly, "Aren't you going to give it to me?"

His handsome face looked serious, and no amusement showed in his deep eyes behind his thin glasses.

Nina stared at Tanner, then at her cookies.

The little miser pouted, hesitated, and handed him the smallest one.

Tanner took it and ate it right in front of her. "Yeah, good. Thank you, Nina."

Nina didn't reply. She stuffed the remaining two cookies into her mouth and ate them quickly.

Only when they were all gone did she say, "You wewcome."

She then grabbed Tanner's hand and asked, "Go you house? See buggies."

Nina still hadn't forgotten about all the bugs at his place.

Tanner realized why she'd offered him a cookie—she wanted something in return.

She's pretty clever.

Tanner gave Nina a pat on the head. But he still said no. "We're eating here today. I can take you to my place later. Go play with Barry first."

Nina was friendly with Tanner but not overly clingy, so she obeyed.

She nodded and went back to play with Barry.

Even so, she ran over every few minutes to ask if they were going yet.

She asked from before lunch until after, skipping her nap to stick by Tanner.

Amelia tried to stop her at first, worried she was bothering him.

But Tanner didn't mind at all—he genuinely found Nina funny.

When Amelia saw he enjoyed her company, she stopped interfering.

After spending some time at the Wilson Villa, Tanner was ready to take Nina to see his bugs.

Barry wanted to go, too, but he didn't really like Tanner's bug room.

Lily thought he'd just gotten out of the hospital and needed to rest, so she kept him home.

The two kids hugged goodbye, and Nina comforted Barry, "Barry, Nina back."

She meant she would come back and was only going to see the bugs for a little while.

Barry said, "Okay. Come back soon."

They parted reluctantly. Amelia didn't go with them—she headed to the film set.

The production team had already terminated its contract with Lorna. Even without Lorna, her filming could continue as usual—Amelia didn't have many scenes with the lead actress anyway.

The only question was whether Stella would come back to work.

Amelia went to her job, and Benjamin chose to watch Nina over his own work.

Neither Benjamin nor Tanner talked much, so the air between them felt quietly awkward.

Luckily, Nina chattered nonstop the whole ride.

She talked to Benjamin, then to Tanner.

When she got tired, she leaned back in her seat like a little boss, kicked her feet up, and drank deeply from her dinosaur water bottle.
