Miracle Cutie Chapter 393: The Outside World

4 min 1 views

She'd been sitting there partly because she wanted to play, but also because she was waiting for Spot.

Nelson still didn't know who Spot was.

But he waited with her.

Time ticked by. After what felt like a while, a faint squeaking sound actually echoed in the room.

Nina looked toward the sound and saw Spot.

"Spot!" Nina's eyes lit up. She happily reached to pick it up.

The hamster wouldn't let her.

Instead, it scurried ahead, seeming to lead them somewhere.

Seeing this, Nelson quickly called Violet. The three of them followed the little hamster.

After walking around for a bit, they came to a very small room used for storage.

The hamster nibbled away at the wallpaper covering one wall, then bumped its head against the wall a few times.

Then, it squeezed through a small hole at the base of the wall and disappeared inside.

Nina didn't understand.

She crouched down and stared at the hole. "Spot... Nina no in," she said sadly.

The hole was too small. Nina reached in and felt around.

She definitely couldn't fit.

While Nina was still figuring out how to crawl through, Violet was already knocking on the wall.

The wall sounded hollow.

Violet's heart skipped a beat. She tore the rest of the wallpaper off.

Grabbing a nearby stool, she started pounding the wall.

"Nelson, watch the door for me," she instructed.

Julie and the other guards were supposed to be watching them.

And Julie even had a gun.

They hadn't mistreated them so far, but Violet wasn't about to bet on their kindness.

She didn't want a direct confrontation.

And she had to protect Nina and Nelson.

Luckily, the pounding was drowned out by the even louder rain.

Thunder cracked. Lightning flashed. A torrential downpour raged outside.

The terrible weather, ironically, provided the perfect cover.

"It's a secret room!" Violet whispered.

The hollow wall gave way easily. Violet hurried Nina and Nelson inside.

The secret room inside was dusty, covered in cobwebs.

Nina even caught a spider.

She held it up, nearly giving Violet a heart attack on the spot.

Nelson's little face looked a bit pale, too.

Fortunately, Nina didn't play with her new spider friend for long before letting it go.

She behaved, letting Violet carry her as they moved on.

They walked for what felt like a long time through a narrow passage in the secret room. Finally, the three saw the outside world.

But once they could see it clearly, Violet knew they were in trouble.

The place was remote—extremely remote.

There was only one road, and several cars were parked on it.

No doubt, none of those cars would give them a ride.

Their owners were the ones holding them captive.

"We can't go that way," Violet said through gritted teeth.

When they'd come out, she hadn't found any umbrellas, only some slightly waterproof cloth.

She wrapped the cloth around Nina and Nelson and picked a direction at random, starting to walk.

The heavy rain, driven by strong winds, lashed against Nina's chubby little face.

It stung.

Now Nina didn't like the rain anymore.

She could barely keep her eyes open.

"Nelson, Nina no see," she mumbled, squinting. The moment she opened her mouth to speak, rainwater rushed in.

She sputtered, spitting it out. The whole of Nina looked miserable.

Violet and Nelson were soaked through, too.

They were drenched from head to toe. The fierce wind made it hard to even walk straight.

But they couldn't stop.

They had to get far away from that house.

Nina's and Nelson's smartwatches had been taken.

The three of them had no electronics at all.

If they wanted to escape, they only had their own two feet.

Nelson was still little. He held onto Violet's clothes, trudging unsteadily through the mud.

Both of them fell more than once.

Nina even got dropped from Violet's arms during one fall.

The ground was all muddy water. Nina was practically a Nina-shaped mud pie.

The rain had thoroughly worn her out.

She was afraid to even open her mouth to cry.

They walked like this through the night and into the day.

The rain never stopped.

The heavy downpour created a thick fog. Even in the daytime, visibility was terrible.

Violet had long since run out of strength.

She was running on sheer willpower now.

Violet carried Nina in front and had Nelson on her back.

She'd used strips of cloth to tie both Nina and Nelson securely to herself.

In Violet's arms, Nina was quiet and listless.

She was hungry, uncomfortable, and her head hurt.

Violet could feel she was running a fever, but there was nothing she could do about it now.

"Hold on," Violet urged, her voice hoarse. "Just hold on a little longer, kids."

She told both children to hold on.

But she herself couldn't.

With a heavy thud, Violet collapsed. Even as she fell, she twisted her body to the side, afraid of crushing Nina.

"Violet!"

"Mommy!"

This time, Nina and Nelson weren't hurt badly by the fall.

But neither cared about their own scrapes. They both called out for Violet.
