Miracle Cutie Chapter 438: Her Suspect List
Nina was out of ideas.
Sitting on Benjamin's arm, her chubby little hands scratched her head in frustration as the three of them entered the estate.
Seeing them return, Amelia set her tablet aside and hurried over.
"Nina, did you have fun today? Did you make any fri— What happened to your face?"
Amelia had been smiling as she approached, but the smile froze when she saw the band-aids on Nina's face. Her brow furrowed as she reached out and peeled one off.
Seeing the band-aid in her mother's hand, Nina finally remembered she'd put them on.
"Mommy, Nina hurt!" she declared, instantly launching into a tall tale.
She'd put the band-aids on her face just for fun and had completely forgotten about it. Her little voice was firm with conviction as she insisted she'd been injured.
Amelia stared at her. After peeling off the band-aid, she hadn't seen a single scratch. She knew Nina wasn't hurt, but she played along anyway.
"Oh? How did you hurt your face?" Amelia asked.
Nina thought for a second.
"Daddy hit," she blurted out without hesitation. But then she looked up at Benjamin, who still seemed unhappy.
Seeing his expression, Nina backtracked. "Daddy no hit."
It was a rare moment for Benjamin—first being falsely accused by his own daughter, then having the accusation retracted just as quickly.
Nina removed the blame from her daddy only to place it squarely on her mommy a second later.
"Mommy hit."
Amelia blinked. "Excuse me? I've been home all day. How could I have hit you?"
Nina nodded, doubling down on her suspect list. "Mon-stuh hit."
Amelia couldn't listen to anymore.
"Alright, that's enough. No more fibbing. Your face isn't hurt. Go look in the mirror. Nobody hit your face," Amelia corrected, then took Nina into her arms. "So, what did you play today?"
Nina wrapped her arms around Amelia's neck and chattered happily about her day, the two of them sharing a close moment.
As she talked, Nina giggled and slipped a chubby little hand inside the loose neckline of Amelia's top, trying to bury her face in Amelia's chest.
Even though she was long weaned, her little hands still had a mind of their own sometimes.
Amelia's mouth twitched. She set the wriggling Nina down.
"Drew's in the yard. Go play with Drew," Amelia said, gently shooing her away.
Once Nina was gone, Amelia took Benjamin's hand and led him to the small balcony.
Her intuition was sharp; she could tell something was bothering him.
"What's wrong?" she asked softly.
Benjamin, who had been silently stewing in his jealousy in front of Nina, finally found his words with Amelia.
He pulled up Lester's social media account and showed her the photo of Lester holding Nina. He even pulled up a separate photo of Lester.
"Nina was playing with Lester today. She really likes him." He looked at Amelia, his expression blank. "Amelia, who's better looking? Lester or me?"
Amelia looked at his stoic face and knew he was seriously jealous.
She was well aware of the bad blood between Benjamin and Lester. Nina liking Lester was definitely a blow to his ego.
To soothe him, Amelia immediately cupped his handsome face in her hands.
"Benjamin, you're the best looking. Really, the absolute best," she assured him, her tone light but earnest. "You're the most handsome person I've ever seen. I thought so the very first time I saw you."
Benjamin's face was flawless. Amelia sometimes felt lucky to have had a child with such a good-looking man.
She was good-looking, Benjamin was good-looking—it was no wonder their baby was so pretty. As someone who appreciated beauty, Amelia was quite satisfied.
Her genuine praise lifted Benjamin's mood a little.
After comforting him, Amelia's gaze flickered to Lester's photo again.
This time, something struck her—Lester's features seemed to bear a slight resemblance to Benjamin's.
"Benjamin, why does this Lester look like this?" Amelia asked, puzzled. "I feel like he looks a bit... I don't know how to describe it."
When she asked, Benjamin also took another look at Lester's photo.
He'd never noticed any similarity. He was confident in his own looks and had never considered the possibility of resembling someone else.
Facing Amelia's question, Benjamin replied calmly, "The family he's in is very complicated. No one knows anything about his birth or who his mother was."
