Miracle Cutie Chapter 500: Nina Froze at the Question
Nina was already hard to handle. If she saw Nelson, she'd only throw an even bigger fit.
Nelson waited quietly as he was told, his little face pulled tight with worry for Nina.
Time passed slowly.
The test results came back—Nina was completely fine. Only then did Benjamin carry her over to Nelson.
With Nina right there, Daniel didn't get chewed out right away.
But the sharp look Benjamin gave him let Daniel know he'd be getting an earful later.
Daniel knew he was fully at fault.
This had been way too close for comfort.
A severe allergy in a small child could actually turn deadly.
If Nina had stuffed those whole strawberries in her mouth...
I can't even bring myself to imagine what would've happened.
Daniel silently kicked himself for being so careless. Meanwhile, Nina, in Benjamin's arms, finally caught sight of Nelson.
When Nina saw him, she squeezed her eyes shut, overcome with sadness.
Nina whispered, "Nelson."
That soft little cry made Nelson's face tense up even more.
Nelson said quietly, "Nina."
He walked over, tugged gently at Nina's pants leg, and asked, "You okay?"
He was asking if she was feeling better.
Benjamin replied, "She's fine now."
Before Benjamin could finish speaking, Nina started wriggling to get down.
She arched backward, desperate to go to Nelson.
Benjamin set her on the floor.
Nina stood up, held out her chubby hands, and kept pouting at Nelson.
She said, "Hug Nina?"
Nelson went quiet for a split second.
A moment later, he stuck out his small hands firmly, grabbed Nina's chubby arms, and strained to lift her feet off the ground.
Nina wasn't happy just being lifted.
She wrapped her arms tight around Nelson and hiccuped her demands. "Nelson, go. Choo-choo?"
Nina wanted Nelson to carry her to the train, and she kept urging him impatiently.
Just lifting Nina had worn Nelson out completely.
There was no way he could carry her any farther.
Watching Nelson's face turn red from straining, Benjamin bent down to take Nina.
Benjamin said, "Come on, Nina. Nelson can't carry you. Daddy will hold you."
Nina refused flat-out.
She swatted at Benjamin's hands. "No Daddy. Nina mad."
Nina was still upset with Benjamin for holding her still during the blood test.
Now, both Daniel and Benjamin were on her naughty list.
Benjamin stared at his fussy daughter, at a loss. He tried to soothe her, but she wouldn't calm down.
Just as the scene grew tense, Grace stepped in and lifted Nina from Nelson's arms.
Grace said gently, "Sweetie, I'll hold you, okay?"
Nina replied at once, "Okay."
She wasn't mad at Grace, so she let her hold her.
Grace didn't speak the local language fluently, but she could manage basic sentences.
She still had her old memories—she used to speak it clearly.
Curled in Grace's arms, Nina touched her mouth and said, "Nina yucky."
Grace already knew what had happened, but she comforted Nina softly anyway.
She soothed Nina as she walked toward the mall, with Benjamin walking beside them.
It was a short walk from the ward to the car out front.
After a few minutes, Benjamin asked Grace if she was still okay carrying Nina.
Nina heard him right away.
She clung tight to Grace, refusing to be separated from her.
Nina pressed her chubby cheek right against Grace's face. "Nina wuw you."
That sweet cheek nuzzle and tiny, soft declaration gave tired Grace a whole new burst of energy.
She carried Nina all the way to the entrance, and the group got in the car and headed to the mall.
Once they arrived, Nina rode the small train twice.
After two laps, she didn't want to ride anymore.
She ran around on her short legs, looking at everything.
There was a kids' escape room where they had to solve puzzles to get out.
Nina ran over to check it out, and a worker smiled, "This has an age limit! Only kids four and up can play. How old are you, little one?"
Nina froze at the question.
She tilted her head up and lied boldly, "Nina five! Nina big."
The worker blinked in surprise.
Her smile faltered, and she asked again, "Really? Tell me how old you are again."
Nina burst into giggles.
She knew she'd been fibbing.
When asked again, she told the truth between giggles. "Nina two."
Nina hadn't turned three yet. Sometimes she said two, sometimes three—she never got it right.
The worker laughed when she saw Nina giggling.
This chubby little girl is so adorable.
