He Chose the So-Called Sister Chapter 277: Trapped
To be safe, Sherry had used a rideshare app.
She'd been in King City long enough to know her way around most places. This wasn't the route home.
"Where are you going?"
The driver scratched his head. "Sorry, miss. New driver. Still learning the streets. Wrong turn. Don't worry, I'll get you there."
Something felt off. "Never mind. Just drop me here. That restaurant up ahead—I'll grab dinner."
To her surprise, he actually let her out. Maybe she was being paranoid.
She decided to eat before heading back.
The moment she finished ordering and stepped out of the private room, she spotted that man again.
Sherry's blood ran cold. She was being watched.
Whether it was the driver or the strangely smiling manager, someone was feeding information.
Also, Max still hadn't shown up or replied to her messages.
That never happened. Even if Max couldn't make it, he'd send someone else.
It was already this late, no reply, no one reaching out.
Something was wrong. And this man was involved.
"What do you want? We don't know each other. Why are you following me? I don't buy that you're into me, and even if you were—I'm married."
Hector poured himself coffee, unbothered. "When I want someone, marriage doesn't matter. Wanting is enough."
What a domineering declaration. Years ago, she might've found it romantic and powerful.
Now? Just another narcissist convinced the world revolved around him.
He was completely delusional.
"Sorry to break it to you, but even if I remarry, it won't be to you." Sherry stood to leave.
Guards were already at the door, blocking her way.
Hector gestured to an empty chair like a gentleman offering a seat. It felt more like an execution.
Sherry had no choice but to sit. And she needed to know what he wanted.
Why target her? A divorced woman?
She didn't buy the attraction angle.
She should've investigated him. She never expected their paths to cross.
Word was he'd just returned from abroad and might not even stay.
So she hadn't bothered to learn more. That was careless. She never imagined he'd latch onto her.
"Your remarry target wouldn't happen to be Mr. Harrison, would it?"
Hector's words proved he'd been digging into her—and even digging into Lucas.
Without waiting for her answer, Hector went on, "Let's say it is. How well do you really know that man? Think you've got half his company figured out?"
Sherry's eyebrow twitched.
He knew that much about the company? Even people inside wouldn't be so clear. On the surface, they were all serving the company.
Only her small team, plus Lucas, had the full picture.
Sherry's eyes narrowed. She palmed a butter knife from the table. "What did you do to Max?"
She trusted her people. Something had happened to Max. Something big.
Hector smiled, "Have dinner with me. Watch a movie. Behave. He goes free."
She'd sent multiple messages. No replies. Dead silence.
All this for dinner and a movie? Weird.
"That's it?"
"I don't lie."
He kept talking to himself, while Sherry stole moments to check her phone. Still no replies.
Hector said coolly, "Pay close attention. When the movie ends, I'm going to quiz you on the plot. If you can't answer, things will get ugly."
The threat in his eyes was real. She felt this guy might be even crazier than George.
George was predictable—offend him, get revenge within a week. A month max. Then it was over unless you poked him again.
And George yelled and lost his temper openly.
This guy had watched her text under the table from the start—and said nothing.
