He Chose the So-Called Sister Chapter 375: Her Smile
It was the first time she'd laughed so freely, so openly.
Even laughing like this, she was stunning—full of life, bright, and younger than ever.
Gilbert was completely frozen by that smile.
She had never laughed like that when she was with him.
At most, she'd given him shy, quiet smiles.
So she could laugh like this—so vivid, so beautiful.
But not for him.
Beside her, Lucas was also staring at Sherry, utterly focused, as if he was burning that smile into his heart.
He was watching her more carefully than Gilbert ever had.
How dare he?
That smile was his to see. No one else was allowed to look at her like that.
The urge to rush over, cover her face, and lock her away in the Bode house forever surged through him.
If she wouldn't smile for him, then she wouldn't smile for anyone.
He wanted to lock her in a room. Even if she never smiled again, he still wouldn't let anyone see it.
Just as the thought consumed him, Julia tugged his arm, snapping him back.
"Gilbert, look at them! They're so cruel—laughing at me right to my face!"
Tears welled in her eyes.
As she spoke, the gap where her tooth was missing opened and closed.
She looked like a comedian who'd blacked out her tooth on purpose.
"Pfft—"
Gilbert almost burst out laughing. He clamped it down, but his face turned bright red.
Julia heard him.
They weren't lying. Her tooth was really gone—her front tooth!
Her image must be a mess, and she'd been yammering nonstop in front of everyone.
She stopped pretending to be weak and ill and ran frantically into the hospital bathroom.
She bared her teeth in the mirror. The dark, empty hole made her look ridiculous.
Several people had seen—Lucas had seen.
Her perfect image, the one she'd built for years, was completely ruined.
In a rage, she smashed the bathroom mirror.
"Sounds like someone has plenty of energy to me," Sherry called from outside. "Strong enough to fight ten cows."
The group was right outside the door, still teasing her.
Julia's eyes were no longer gentle and innocent—only wild darkness and hatred.
That tooth must have broken when Sherry hit her in the lake.
Sherry. You'll pay for this. I'll make you suffer for humiliating me like this.
She stormed out, her hair wet and messy.
To be fair, when she didn't speak, she did look pitiful.
"Don't worry. I asked for the VIP room. No one else will see you. If anyone talks about this, I'll make them regret it."
Gilbert glared threateningly at the three of them.
Then the head nurse came over. "Both of you are requesting the VIP room, but we only have one available."
Gilbert immediately spoke up, "We need it. Unlike some people who aren't hurt at all but pretend to be."
On the way here, he'd briefly wondered if Sherry was okay. Now he decided he'd been stupid to care.
She didn't deserve sympathy.
What he didn't see was that Sherry could barely move because she was freezing.
She'd been in the water the longest, her body temperature dangerously low.
Staying underwater had numbed her, but once out, she'd lost heat fast.
The car had been warm, but once outside again, the bone-deep cold returned.
Her face was bright red from the cold—but Gilbert didn't notice. He thought she was faking.
Lucas suddenly lifted Sherry into his arms.
"I'm Lucas Harrison. Today, no matter who comes, that room is mine."
The head nurse flinched in shock.
Gilbert quickly stepped in to block him, though he didn't want to confront Lucas directly.
Instead, he snapped at Sherry, "Sherry, stop this! You're perfectly fine. You're just faking to take the VIP room from Julia!"
After all, she'd sounded strong and angry just minutes earlier.
She didn't look sick or feverish at all. If she wanted to fake it now, it was already too late.
Gilbert didn't care about her health for even a second.
"This room is mine. It has to be. Julia can't be seen like this. It will ruin her image.
"You know she's a celebrity. She hasn't asked you for a single thing since she came back. This is the first time."
