Around the office, they'd called him "errand boy" and "lapdog" behind his back.

But officially? He was a special assistant to the company, not Lucas' personal assistant.

Everyone in the industry knew Max and Juan were closest to Lucas.

Inside headquarters, you'd never guess. They looked like regular employees. Maybe even bottom-tier.

But outside? Their reputation preceded them. Clearly not just rumors.

The group tried laughing it off, thinking they could gloss this over.

They didn't expect Max's face to be totally different from usual. He even carried himself like someone who could hold his own in a fight—with the air of a director or a CEO, no less.

The group trembled, shocked by what they were seeing.

Lucas once said outsiders thought the three of them looked unserious. Like jokes. Useless.

But those comments came from other companies, not theirs.

Because Sherry only dealt with the Harrison Group's core headquarters. Business partners, other branches—she'd never visited.

So to these people, she was someone HQ had kicked out.

And that headquarters was a lifelong goal for them to reach. Sherry, a woman her own husband disliked—if not for Gilbert's disdain, they wouldn't attack her.

After all, the Bodes weren't weak.

In other words, the biggest reason Sherry got judged was Gilbert.

If you said her husband despised her looks, they'd blow up.

But calling her stupid? A useless housewife? Taking a spot everyone envied? Unacceptable!

Branches were chaotic. Too many moving parts to manage everything. Entertainment especially—so many roles, so many collaborators, like makeup artists, stylists, endless partnerships.

Plus the company was huge, with lots of ad shooting locations.

This time, they were here to see how the new hires were doing with the ad shoot.

Recently, Seaseat City had a few new companies pop up, clearly launched to go against them, including the one Sherry visited last time.

She saw Edward there.

The Campbells even carved out a spot. They'd wanted to partner earlier, but Sherry noticed some sketchy things.

It didn't look like building an entertainment company, more like... skirting the edge of illegal work.

Sherry had been excited about Harrison's entertainment division. Then this happened on day one.

"This is a workplace. Gossip is poison. If it leaks, outsiders think we're the source. You know the damage?"

Word travels.

The manager scurried over and read the room instantly. "Max! Why didn't you tell me you were coming? You four—why are you standing there? Get Max some coffee."

They got it right away—the manager was covering for them—and nodded fast, ready to run.

"I didn't say you could leave."

Max's voice stopped them cold.

An apology wouldn't save them. And they hadn't even offered one.

The manager rubbed his hands. "They're just girls. Like to chat. Let them apologize to Ms. Campbell and we're done—"

The few of them didn't want to at all. They huffed and finally said, "We didn't say anything wrong. Just facts. That's a problem now? Fine, if we have to apologize—sorry, okay?"

They practically rolled their eyes to the ceiling.

"There. Apology done. Water under the bridge." The manager nodded along.

Even he could see they weren't sorry. They'd insulted Sherry again.

Clearly, this wasn't their first time. They were used to being arrogant, and figured saying this already gave Max face.

And that would be the end of it.

"This isn't a negotiation. I'm ordering you to fire them. Need me to spell it out?"

The moment he said it, everyone's faces changed.

"But—" The manager looked everywhere but at Max. "Honestly, making them apologize was already pushing it. No need to keep going."

He shot Sherry a resentful look.

He couldn't target Max. But like the group, he had no respect for Sherry.

"And these girls are the regular assistants and makeup artists. Their teamwork is tight. Changing them suddenly is deadly for the actors. I think showing mercy is a virtue."
