Sherry's words were slurred and rambling.

With no danger around, she let herself get completely drunk.

Everyone watched as Sherry kept tugging at Lucas' sleeve.

Their eyes widened in disbelief—she must have a death wish, right?

Their excitement was way over the top, even more intense than the employees back at Harrison Group. They looked completely wild.

Was it really that big of a deal?

Sherry was fuzzy from the alcohol, but not so much that she couldn't tell what was going on. She'd started way behind everyone else in life, which meant she survived by reading the room.

Growing up, that was the only way she'd survived—otherwise, she might have been the only person to starve while living in a wealthy household.

Their reactions were so extreme that, if she hadn't sensed how genuine they were, Sherry would have thought they were putting on an act.

Lucas was usually cold as ice, keeping his distance from everyone, though he was a little softer with his friends.

But this level of shock was ridiculous.

Once Lucas left, several others followed. It was clear they each had their own tasks, moving in perfect silence without needing to be told.

When she headed for the stairs, no one spoke to her or tried to talk to her at all.

Being treated normally was the best she could ask for. Otherwise, people would later turn on her, saying she'd only gotten special treatment because of her connections, even though they'd ignored her in the first place.

And when trouble came, they'd all run faster than anyone.

But as she started up the stairs, Ivy didn't exactly block her—she was helping the drunk Leo, who was also heading up. "Sherry, you've got some real nerve. Either that, or you had no idea who we are when you got here."

Sherry stopped and looked straight at Ivy.

Gone was the sweet girl she'd first met. Ivy was sharp and unapproachable now, her entire demeanor had changed. "We looked into who you are earlier. Color me impressed. I still can't figure out what you even have going for you.

"You saw how many gorgeous women were here tonight, right? Plenty of them didn't even get a seat at the main table.

"You're sitting right next to the boss, but did anyone even glance your way?" Not counting what had just happened, anyway.
