He Chose the So-Called Sister Chapter 423: I Told Her to Jump

4 min 1 views

"You must have said something to her!"

"I did. I told her to jump."

"Damn it!" Ivy roared and lunged straight for Sherry.

It was the same scenario all over again.

The last time someone had attacked her like this was when Wendy had lied and said Sherry had broken her parents' only precious heirloom.

But Sherry had known the truth. The bracelet wasn't an heirloom at all—Wendy had posted about it on Facebook just days earlier, bragging that Gilbert had given her money to buy whatever she wanted.

Sherry had thought it looked old-fashioned then.

She'd found out why when Wendy hit her.

She'd tried to dodge that time, but Gilbert had held her still, letting Wendy beat her until she was satisfied.

This time, though, Lucas stepped in and shoved Ivy away before she could lay a finger on Sherry.

His strength was overwhelming.

Ivy stumbled back into someone's arms, her eyes wide with disbelief. "She tried to kill Selena, and you're stopping me?!"

"Would you rather end up like her, lying in that operating room?" Lucas' expression was unreadable, giving nothing away.

"What do you mean, boss?" Ivy looked up at him, fondness and deep respect in her gaze. If anyone else had spoken to her like that, she would have screamed back.

"I mean if you lay a hand on her, you'll only hurt yourself. Did you see Sherry push her? Do you have any proof?"

"But she admitted she—"

"Admitted she said something. That's not proof."

"Then why is Selena lying downstairs? Do you even get it? She was in a pool of blood. Who knows how long until I found her? If I'd been any later, she would've died! How can you say this has nothing to do with you?!"

Sherry remained completely calm. "Why would it? I left with my coffee. I have no idea what she did after. Whether she jumped or not is none of my business.

"If you're that upset, call the cops. There are security cameras everywhere. I'm not worried."

Tears streamed down Ivy's face. "See, boss?! She's heartless! She's not even human!"

"Shut up before I toss you in there too. You're the loudest one in this whole hospital.

"Are you causing trouble on purpose because you don't really care about Selena?"

Ivy could barely believe her ears. "Boss, did you hear her?! She's twisting everything! How dare she say that about our friendship?!

"It's obvious she did it! Just look at her!"

Ivy kept throwing accusations like a wild animal until a doctor stepped out.

"The patient is out of critical condition and awake now."

Ivy rushed over immediately and grabbed Selena's hand. "Selena, how are you? Does anything hurt? Are you okay?"

Selena was weak, but fully conscious.

"I'm fine." She turned to Lucas. "Sorry for worrying you, boss."

"Why would I worry? Tell me exactly how you fell."

His cold tone shocked Selena.

"Did... did Sherry say something to you?"

Ivy lit up, seizing the moment. "Why did you fall? Did Sherry push you?! I'm here—no one's gonna hurt you!"

"I..." Selena glanced at Sherry, her expression suspiciously vague. "Ivy, drop it. This really has nothing to do with Sherry..."

Her voice faded to a near whisper, but no one bought that she was just weak. It was obvious she was hiding something or covering for someone.

Everyone there was sharp enough to read between the lines.

It was as good as accusing Sherry outright.

Ivy stared at Sherry, as if saying, "What do you have to say now?"

"If it really has nothing to do with me, then I'm leaving." Sherry turned to go at once.

She wasn't stupid. She knew exactly what Selena was doing.

She just didn't give a damn about any of them, humiliating Selena by not playing along.

"Selena's just too kind to expose you! How can you just leave like that?!

"She might forgive you, but we won't! You deserve to suffer exactly what she did! I'm sorry, boss. But I'm gonna make this woman pay!"

"So you're saying this is my fault?" Sherry looked directly at Selena. "I'm asking you—did I have anything to do with you falling?"
