Gilbert didn't believe Sherry for a second.

Something must have happened to Julia. She would never go to a place like that on her own.

He'd heard fugitives were hiding out there.

What if...

What if something went wrong?

He couldn't let that happen.

If Julia died, he would drag Sherry down with her to pay.

The car raced at top speed. A trip that should have taken an hour was over in half that time.

Sherry didn't usually get carsick, but her stomach was completely empty, and the speed was violent.

Her face turned deathly pale. She felt like throwing up, but there was nothing in her stomach to bring up.

She could only gag helplessly.

Gilbert jerked her up roughly.

"Stop faking. If you were really sick, you'd actually throw up.

"You think I'd feel sorry for you now?"

Before he could finish, he spotted a beautiful figure in a white dress standing by the empty window frame on the upper floor of the abandoned building.

Abandoned buildings had no windows.

Gilbert's face went white with terror. He dragged Sherry toward the entrance.

The building was full of exposed nails, steel bars, wooden planks, and broken glass.

Gilbert didn't care if Sherry got hurt. He dragged her so roughly that she fell repeatedly, scraping her knees until they bled.

Sherry's eyes darkened, but she stayed quiet.

Julia stood in the wind, her face unnaturally pale, as if a light breeze could break her.

Gilbert immediately threw Sherry to the ground and held out his arms.

"Julia, don't do anything stupid! If Sherry hurt you, I'll make her apologize. I'll make her pay double. Please don't hurt yourself!"

"Don't come any closer!" Julia wiped away her tears. "I just hate how unfair this world is. Some people have no talent, but they still get everything they want just because someone powerful is backing them. It's so unfair."

Was she talking about herself?

She'd come back and used Gilbert's power to jump into the showbiz, even getting her own fully-equipped company.

Sherry finally understood why some people got ahead so easily.

They had no shame at all.

But some people just never saw it.

Gilbert's face darkened. "You mean Sherry used Lucas to target you?!"

Julia just kept crying and said nothing. But in this moment, silence spoke louder than words.

Gilbert's heart shattered. He was terrified Julia would really hurt herself.

He rushed forward and grabbed her into his arms.

"Julia, I'll make Sherry pay! Come back with me, please!"

Sherry let out a cold laugh. "Funny. Who said she was kidnapped? Who said something happened? Take a good look. Is she missing even a single hair? Wait until you find a real injury before you blame me."

Gilbert shot her a furious look. "Can you not be so petty at a time like this? Can't you see how much danger she was in?"

"It's only the second floor. She wouldn't die even if she fell. Why the act?"

"She could still die! Don't you have any empathy? Can't you see there's steel..."

He trailed off mid-sentence.

Beneath them was a huge pile of hay bales, stacked nearly a story high.

Even a child could jump down safely.

Julia valued her life more than anything. She would never put herself in real danger.

Gilbert's expression froze. But he refused to admit he was wrong. Hurting someone wasn't just physical—messing with their head was worse.

"It's come to this and you still fuss over small stuff. Can't you just be glad everyone's okay?

"You always said you were hurt deeply before. Now you're just tearing other people down because you suffered. You're twisted!"

He spat cruel words at her, annoyed and unrepentant. If nothing happened, all the better. Her mind was warped.

"You're the kind of woman no man could ever like. The way I treat you—you should look at yourself for the reason—ahhh!"

At the same time, Julia said, "I was supposed to win! Everything was mine until you stole it! How can I accept this? Ahhh!"

Their combined screams echoed through the empty building.

Sherry lifted her leg and kicked both of them hard, sending them tumbling down.

She'd saved all her strength for this. The whole ride, she'd stayed quiet and still, just waiting for this moment.

The two flailed their arms wildly in panic. Even though they knew the hay was below them, their bodies screamed for survival.

They clawed at each other, both trying to use the other as a cushion.
