There was no one left for her to miss.

But she brushed it off. She planned to stay there tonight. Lucas was often away, and she never knew when he'd be home.

There was no point staying if he wasn't there—her little acts meant nothing if he didn't see them.

She wasn't going to waste her time doing sweet things in secret.

If he didn't see it, it didn't count.

She planned to go inside and wait for Lucas to park and join her.

Thirty minutes passed, and he never came out. Then the lights inside the house turned on.
