"Fine. Stay here. I'll take Julia back first, then come get you. Wait five minutes.

"I promise. I'll be back."

Then he carried Julia away.

He planned to set her down and return for Sherry.

But then Julia sneezed, her face turning bright red.

"Gilbert... I feel so dizzy. I'm seeing two of you."

Gilbert immediately touched her forehead. She was burning up with a high fever.

Panicked, he ran to the captain and ordered the boat to return to shore immediately. He'd cover every cost.

Sherry's vision was also darkening. The freezing water had affected her too—she'd jumped in twice, staying longer than anyone.
