It was like a free day out.

All complaints vanished instantly, replaced by gossip.

"Don't tell me he is Gilbert? He's insanely handsome."

"Of course it is! Just look at his build and that kind of money. That's Gilbert. That woman is so lucky. Wait—could that be Julia?"

"Who else? You think it's his useless wife?"

"No one even mentions her in public. And her last name isn't Mack anyway."

"Turning the whole boat around for his goddess? I'd melt if a man did that for me."

Everyone loved that kind of obvious, public favoritism. They wanted the whole world to know they were the chosen ones.

As they walked, they suddenly spotted Sherry crouching alone and jumped.

"Holy hell, I thought she was a ghost from the lake!"

They stared her up and down, then sighed.

"Some people have a man who turns the whole boat around.

"And some people have stuck here half-dead, no one even checking on her.

"I take back everything I said about not wanting a man. You really need one."

"Pathetic."

The group looked at Sherry with pity, but none stepped in.

They had no idea what had happened, and they didn't want to get involved.

At least she could still move.

"Mr. Bode will take his girlfriend to the hospital anyway. He can give her a ride on the way."

They'd come out for sightseeing; now they were in a rush, so the boat tore back fast.

Before long, they reached the dock—and an ambulance was already waiting.

The scene was dramatic, straight out of a TV show.

The tourists were even more jealous.

By the time they were leaving, they finally remembered Sherry.

Some of them wanted to help; she looked weak and miserable.

The others wanted a chance to speak to the legendary Gilbert.

They approached just as Gilbert was busy giving instructions, so they turned to Julia instead.

She was a celebrity, after all—any connection was a win.

"Julia, this lady also seems sick. Could she ride with you to the hospital?"

Julia's first thought was to agree, for her image.

But when she saw it was Sherry, her eyes lit up with mockery.

"I'm sorry, but I can't. There's only one ambulance, and it's just for Gilbert and me.

"Besides, I'm not feeling well. I wouldn't want to get anyone else sick... cough, cough..."

She let out a weak, fake cough.

They didn't know what was going on or why she was coughing.

And the ambulance really was only set up for one patient.

There was an extra seat for Gilbert, of course—not some stranger.

When Gilbert returned and saw the crowd around Julia, he asked, "What's going on?"

"Nothing. Someone was hoping to ride in the ambulance too. I don't mind, but... I wouldn't want to make anyone else sick with my cold.

"As a public figure, I have to be careful."

The crowd closed in even more, now focused entirely on Gilbert.

He didn't spot Sherry crouched nearby, lips cracked, throat so scorched she couldn't force out a word.

He glanced at that noisy cluster—didn't look like anyone was in real trouble.

"Ignore them. If someone was really hurt, they would've told the staff."

It was a clear hint—odds were, that person was faking it.

The people around didn't know the truth, but hearing him say that, they instinctively believed a man like him.

Why trust a soaking, unknown woman over one of the most powerful men in the city?

Their anger turned on Sherry immediately.

"If you're going to fake an illness, don't drag us into it! You made us look bad in front of Mr. Bode!"

"Quit pretending. They're leaving already."

But then an even more luxurious convoy pulled up.

"Oh my god—look at the lead car! Isn't that one of only two custom models in the world?"

"I read about it online! I thought some foreign billionaire ordered it, but it's someone right here!"
