Tabitha’s POV

Things have been going downhill for me ever since I lost my mate. I don’t regret most of what I did but some things could have been avoided, I guess. I’ve found myself thinking that maybe there could have been a better way to go about getting my revenge for his death. “No point in feeling sorry for myself or others. What’s done is done and there is no changing the past. Now, I must look to my future and the freedom that Alex promised me. He thinks I don’t know that he plans on killing me, but what he doesn’t know is that is what I want. I no longer want to be here without my mate because there is nothing for me here anymore.

The way people view me is based on my actions after his death, but nobody seems to remember how I was before that tragedy happened. My favorite thing to do was to go for walks in the forest or through the gardens of our coven grounds. I’m naturally an Earth witch so I commune with nature and draw my power from the Earth’s energy, but since I’ve become a dark witch, the Earth no longer responds to me. Some would probably say “Why don’t you just go back to being a light witch?” but it isn’t that simple. If I did get rid of the darkness there is no guarantee that any other light witches would take me in, so I’d still end up alone. Plus, all of that hinges on whether what Freya said to me is true or not because everyone knows that King Alexander enforces the rules. I’ve done plenty of wrong in the name of revenge and heart break, so I don’t even know if she would be able to convince him to let me live. “She did seem pretty confident that she could change his mind though.” I think to myself as I move from the lounge chair to my workstation. I was supposed to start on his potion hours ago, but I’ve been stalling. In truth, I’m trying to give them enough time to come up with a way to stop him, but they seem to be dragging their feet. This potion will absolutely work, and I’ve known what to use from the beginning, but I needed to give them time. All those failed potions were different variations of the one I’m going to mix and give him tonight. He’s been very impatient and last night he killed an omega, for what, I have no idea but I’m sure the girl didn’t deserve death. As I begin to mix the potion, I think about my life and wonder what it would have been like if my mate had lived. The word mate always seemed weird to me but once he explained to me what it meant, I realized that I loved it more than just being husband and wife or in a relationship, The explanation gave new meaning to the word soulmate and I gladly embraced it after. We were together for almost a year before things got bad. We argued constantly over his involvement with Tobias and all his crazy ways. Finally, he told me that he was getting away and that’s what we did. One day we just packed up and moved away from that pack and all of its problems. Then one day, after almost another year that was filled with love and peace, there was a knock at the door that changed everything. The guards damn near broke my door down when we didn’t answer right away and I was confused as to what was going on, so I went to open the door. When I did they barged in and two of them held me preventing me from using my hands while four others grabbed him and dragged him outside. I screamed for him, but they kept holding me until he was loaded in an SUV.

“What is going on here? Where are you taking my mate?” I yelled when they wouldn’t let me go.

“He is going to prison while he awaits his trial.” one of the guards said.

“Trial? Trial for what? He hasn’t done anything wrong. We live here away from everyone in peace. Please bring him back. You have the wrong person.” I begged and pleaded with them.

“I’m sorry but these are the King’s orders ma’am. There is nothing we can do, but you can go to the castle to find out everything and appeal if they indeed have the wrong person. You have time. I suggest going as soon as possible though miss.” After that he turned, and they both left my home.

I shook my head to rid myself of those memories. What happened next is something that I do not wish to recall. “Those bastards!” Fire shot from my hands and set the curtains on fire. “Damnit!” I scream before waving my hand and putting out the fire. Taking some deep breaths, I calm myself down and continue mixing the potion. Thirty minutes later and I am done with the exception of adding his blood. Sending someone to tell him that I am ready for him, I sit back on the lounge chair and close my eyes while I wait. The sooner we get this over with the better. The minute I start to relax, the door is swung open and in walks Alex. Well, I can relax when I’m dead, I guess.

“What are you doing lying down? You called me here saying it is ready and you’re taking a nap!” He starts to yell. I’ve had about enough of this idiot.

“Oh hush! Calm down. Magic takes energy, especially dark magic since there are no elements to draw from, so I’m a bit drained. You should know that. Anyway, it is ready.” I stand and grab my Athame and move closer to him. “Hold out your hand.” I cut his palm and hold his hand over the bowl with the potion in it until four drops fall in then I mix it with a spoon until it turns dark purple. I toss him a towel to clean the blood from his hand even though the wound has healed. Once done mixing, I pour some into a cup and hand it to him.

“Finally!” he says as he drinks the potion. “How long before...” he trails off as his body starts to shake a little and blue light surrounds him.

While the magic courses through him, I sit back down on the lounge chair and try to collect my own energy. With all of this light magic swirling around, it starts to call to my own light magic, which in turn tries to fight with my dark magic. I push down my light side and close my eyes again waiting for the light show to finish to see what happens next. I have made plans to go and visit Freya, but I need to see what he is going to do first.

The lights finally die down and he is gasping for air. Using my magic, I move a chair close to him and tell him to sit. Surprisingly he does as he’s told, and I must have a shocked expression on my face based on the smirk he gives me. He really is quite handsome when I actually stop and look at him, but the crazy part is a turn off. “Not like I’d be interested even if he wasn’t crazy.” I say in my head.”

“How long before I can use my powers?”

“Do you even know how to use your powers?” I giggle.

“Why are you laughing?”

“Because you couldn’t even access them without the use of a potion and now, you’re all ready to go but do you know how to use them? Light magic is much different than dark magic but what you’re dealing with is Goddess magic and I have no idea how to guide you.”

“Why didn’t you tell me that before now?”

“I assumed that since you two share a body that you would have at least been privy to how the magic works. You’ve had these powers your whole life, this didn’t just happen, and you were around for a while before he blocked you.”

“I never paid attention to the use of magic; besides he never really used it back then. We were more about violence towards our enemies.”

“All I can tell you is that with light magic it is based upon the elements that call to you. Some only get one element while others get two or three and very rarely some will get all the elements. Naturally, I was an Earth witch, but I developed other elements. I can no longer tap into any of that though. Some powers go off of emotions. I suggest you go somewhere and practice. Meditate beforehand to calm your mind and reach for what you’re trying to use.”
