He walks towards me, and we walk out of the door and towards the training fields where the army is gathered. Once he is in front of the army, he stops but I keep walking and stand off to the far right side before stopping and I look out over the 100,000 give or take men and women there to fight for this ridiculous cause. The thought that I could have stopped all of this does pop into my head for the millionth time but like all the other times, I ignore it and try to not let my mind wander. For this to work I have to remain focused, and I need my powers to be at their fullest, so I take the time to conserve my energy and connect with nature as much as I can. This battle will be exhausting for me since I have to try to protect as many people on our side as I can, while secretly protecting my daughter. Freya and the others are on their own. The only reason David will be protected is because he is my daughter’s mate and I’d never want her to go through what I’ve been through losing mine. Then there is Dylan. My heart wants me to protect him and be with him, but I don’t follow that organ anymore. I mean I did that once and look where it got me. I shake my head to clear it of those thoughts just in time to hear the tail end of Alex’s speech.

“Some of you will die and there is nothing I can do about that since their army is vastly greater than ours, but we have a very powerful witch on our side and with her help...” he turns to look at me with a smirk on his face before continuing. “we shall be victorious and get all that we deserve.” He holds his hand out to me, and I walk over to him and put my hand in his. I’m pulled closer and he wraps his arm around my waist, and I cringe inwardly. What is with all this touching all of a sudden? I just smile reassuringly at the troops and when they start to disperse to finish getting ready, I maneuver my way out of his arms and look into his eyes hoping he sees all the hatred I have for him.

“I don’t know what is going on with you and honestly, I don’t care, but you need to keep your hands to yourself. We’ve gone over this more than once. I don’t want you in any way other than business and our business is almost concluded.”

“Are you sure about that? Your body feels right in my arms.” Electricity starts to crackle around me, and I have to take a few deep breaths to calm myself. I need my magic for the battle.

“You should just stop. My body doesn’t feel right in your arms, you just want what you can’t have like a typical man. Now, we need to get moving if we’re going to get there before the blood moon is high in the sky.”

“I wouldn’t mind exploring that theory, but you are right that we need to get going.” He turns towards where the men have all assembled in formation. “EVERYONE, LETS MOVE!”

Everyone starts to head out walking, but the plan is for them to shift 30 minutes before we reach our battle destination and hide in the forest. Of course we are in the front leading them but also surrounded by guards.

“Are you really ready to do this to innocent people and your mate and families?” I asked him.

“Absolutely. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time and now, they will all pay for my suffering.”

“As long as you end mine before it is all done.”

“I’ll make sure you get what you want since you’ve been so helpful, but I’ll need one more favor in return.”

“That wasn’t the deal. I’ve done my part and now you have to do yours. You promised. No new deals.” What the hell was he trying to do here.

“It isn’t a new deal, but more of a little add-on and just a small thing really. Besides, you either do this or you can stay alive until you find someone else powerful enough to end your life.”

“Fine! What is it now?” I asked him annoyed and furious that he wasn’t sticking to the deal.

“Kill that mate of yours and the mate of the royal Beta. I know who he is, and he’ll try to persuade you to help their side. I know how the mate bond works because I feel it with Freya, only I don’t let it rule me. The last thing we need is hesitation from you during a crucial moment.”

“This makes no sense to me. I can see why you’d want me to kill him but what does killing the royal beta’s mate have to do with anything?”

“He’s the best friend of Alex and his suffering will make Alex suffer even more which will make me happy.”

“The girl is innocent in this so why don’t I just kill the royal beta instead. You’ll get an even better result. Having his best friend killed knowing he couldn’t prevent it from happening would crush him.” He growled and stopped walking turning to face me and grabbing my upper arms.

“You will kill who I tell you to kill. I know that she is your daughter.” My face pales at finding out this information and he smiles at me sadistically. “Yeah, I know all about her being your daughter and a half witch. You will kill her, or I will, but either way Tabitha, she is going to die tonight.” He pushes me backwards a bit and I’m too stunned to move. How did he find out about her and how will I be able to save her?

He starts to walk and so does the rest of the army leaving me standing there for a few minutes before I hear him call my name.

“TABITHA LETS GO!”

Still in shock I start to move towards the head of the line but something internally starts happening as well. My blood begins to boil as I become more and more furious by the second. It no longer matters how he found out about her or anything else, because in that moment all I feel is rage that he wants to kill my daughter. She is all that I have left of her father, and he wants to take her life away from her. A life that I gave for someone else to care for because I was no longer fit to do it myself. It takes everything in me to keep my powers at bay for the time being. Knowing what I now have to do calms me enough to keep my powers in check and my fury down until the time is right.

“Okay Alex, if it is a war you want, then it is a war you’re going to get. You made a mistake that you will regret.” I say to myself as we continue walking to our destination or should I say, our final resting place.
