The Lycan King and His Mysterious Luna Chapter 16

David comes running up behind me and at the last minute I move to the side before he can attack me. He laughs and gets into a fighting stance and so do I. Those around us move back to give us some room and we begin sparring together. David is the only one that can almost match me in a fight. As my Beta, I would expect nothing less. He is a great fighter and we have saved each other from harm on numerous occasions. The time I was injured and ended up in my mate’s packhouse was one of those times. We were out doing routine patrols when some feral rogues attacked us. Feral rogues are worse than regular ones because they have lost all their human counterparts. Some end up that way from going too long without being in a pack and others it happens due to losing their mate or even a child.

Night sets in as we continue sparring. We fight for about an hour more before I start to feel funny. I can’t describe the feeling and at first, I shrug it off. David manages to land a punch to my face that knocks me slightly off balance due to whatever this feeling is and as I get my balance and go to sweep his legs, mine gives out suddenly. I'm sitting there wondering what is happening but when I try to get up, excruciating pain starts radiating throughout my body. It felt like I was beginning to shift for the first time, but that is impossible. The pain stops and I straighten my back then look at David who is giving me a worried look. “In my office. Now!” I turn on my heels and walk fast back to my office grateful that the pain has stopped for now.

We enter my office and I begin to pace. “I have no idea what that was but so far it has stopped.”

“Alex, you looked like you were in a lot of pain.”

“I was, and the weird part is that it felt like I was going through my first shift again.”

“But that’s impossible Alex. You got your wolf and your Lycan over 200 years ago. We both did. Could it be something else?” As I was pacing another round of pain hit and damn near brought me to my knees. David was at my side in an instant but what was different this time, was that I could hear a faint female voice calling my name. As the voice got louder, I recognized it as my mate’s.

“Alex, please, help me. It hurts so much. I can’t take it anymore. I wish you were real and not a dream so you could be here with me now.” I hear her whimper and then a loud scream leaves her mouth, and I can hear nothing else. After hearing her plea for help, I immediately begin shifting so I run out of my office shredding my clothes as I take off into the forest. My wolf bursts forth and my paws are hitting the ground running towards my mate. The tracking mark I put on her leading me to her. In the background I can hear two other sets of paws and know that my Beta and Gamma are following behind me. I don’t have time to think about whether both following me is a good idea or not because the love of my life is in pain.

Flying through the forest, passing through not only the royal pack borders, but a few of the neighboring ones takes an hour since I’m pushing myself using all the strength my wolf and Lycan can offer me. They growl in my head and keep chanting “we have to get to mate, mate is in trouble” and I can feel their pain at her being in pain, but also their fury at the possibility that someone has hurt her. We ran faster and after thirty more minutes of running, I can feel that we’ve entered the territory of the Dancing Moonlight Pack. This is her pack and I slow down a little to sniff the air and try to catch her scent. My Beta and Gamma finally catch up to me, but I don’t worry about that as I catch her delicious scent on the wind, but there is another scent with her, and I can tell that it is a male and I growl. Then other scents waft to my nose and three of them have undertones of her scent which tells me that they are family members and I start to calm down. Who is the fourth person? A boyfriend? No, I can tell from our encounters that she at least likes me even if she doesn’t love me yet. But she did say she thought I was a dream. “Quit daydreaming! Mate is in trouble!” My wolf and Lycan both scream inside my head but before I can start moving that horrible pain hits me again and I stumble. It almost caused me to shift back. In order to stop feeling this pain I will have to disconnect myself from her which will be hard since we’re mates, but I can always use her scent to reach her now. I take a deep breath and relax slowly breaking the connection to her. It breaks my heart to do it, but I can’t save her if I keep hitting the ground from her pain. “Maybe we should shift and run in human form the rest of the way there, your Majesty.” says my Beta.

“You’re right but my clothes are shredded and I didn’t bring any.”

“I brought some for us all. When David mind-linked me, I grabbed some pants and took off running. I didn’t have time to grab anything else, but I figured just pants would be good.” Said my Gamma. We quickly shift back and change into the pants which are a little tight on me but not uncomfortable thankfully. I heard another agonizing scream and almost shift again but I contained my wolf and Lycan and told my Beta and Gamma that we must go now. They nod in agreement and take off after me.
