The Lycan King and His Mysterious Luna Chapter 14

“You simply cannot wander off like that without at least letting me know. Your majesty with everything that has been going on we can’t take any chances that something will happen to you.” He pinches the bridge of his nose, and he only does that when he is nervous and frustrated.

“David, did you forget who I am and what I am capable of?” He looks at me as if I’m the one that has lost his mind.

“Alex, more than anyone I know what you are capable of and who you are but given the right circumstances even you can be captured. Wolfsbane and silver don’t work on you, but it does have a small but painful effect on the rest of us. All anyone must do is say that one of your people or family has been taken and you’d trade yourself for us if that’s what was asked of you. You don’t have an heir and haven’t claimed your mate yet, so who will we follow? You know I’d do everything in my power to get you back but without you we would be weakened, and many lives would be lost.”

The use of my name tells me just how worried he is, so I let it go for now as I listen to what he is saying. He makes good points. I wouldn’t hesitate at all to sacrifice myself for my people and I know that David would do everything he could to get me back, being that he is my Beta and best friend. In truth it would break me if something happened before I could be with my mate or if anyone lost their lives trying to save me.

“David, I went for a run around the perimeter and then just through the forest to calm down. There’s been one bad thing after another, it seems the closer we get to the Mating Ball, or maybe I’m just anxious to be with my mate in person. And I have no idea why, but Michelle has been texting and calling me all morning. When will this woman get it through her head that she is not ever going to be with me?”

“Maybe I’m out of line, but why don’t you just tell your parents, her parents, and her that you’ve found your mate? She would have no choice but to back off, right? I don’t know about how the mate bond feels of course and maybe that’s why you aren’t telling anyone plus there is the matter of her safety up until her birthday.”

“The reason I’m not telling anyone is for that exact reason. She is a rare wolf in many ways, but they haven’t fully manifested yet. Every time I am with her, I can feel her getting stronger and there’s something else about her that I just can’t figure out with her scent.” I rub my chin thinking about her scent and where I smelled that scent because it is very familiar.

“Your majesty, maybe we should take this conversation to your office. I can sense that no one is around but you never know who may be lurking about and honestly, I don’t trust Michelle to not have someone in the palace telling her what is going on here now that she is no longer allowed on the premises.”

“You’re right. I need to get some work done anyway so I may as well. Do you have the reports of the latest attacks or any information on who is behind them?” We make it to my office, and I sit behind my desk while he takes a seat in one of the two chairs in front of my desk.

“There haven’t been any real attacks, but it looks as though they have been testing the borders of the packs that are at our borders. I think they are trying to look for blind spots or they are trying to see if we’ll show up. We did manage to catch two of them, but they don’t seem to be very talkative. One is scared shitless and the other, well I think you’ll have some fun breaking him.”

“It has been a long time since I’ve gotten to break someone, literally. I wonder how long he’ll last. Well, I’ll deal with him tomorrow but for now try to get everything you can out of the other one. I feel like he’ll gladly spill his guts if we threaten to kill him. Once we have the information, I’ll just pretend that the other one held out until his death just in case he has more information to add.”

“Yes, your majesty. Now about this Mating Ball sir. Everything has been ordered and we are back on schedule after that mess that Michelle caused. Are you sure that you want sunflowers and moonflowers? They just don’t seem to go together.”

“The moonflowers are for the Mating Ball, and the sunflowers are for my mate. They are her favorite flower. The inside of the ballroom will have moonflowers and the pavilion outside will be decorated with sunflowers. Though nobody is to go to the pavilion until after midnight. That is where her birthday party will take place.”

“Ah, okay. Everything has been taken care of and all we must do now is wait.” He smirks at me before saying, “Which I know has been so easy for you to do lately.” I chuckle a little at him teasing me.

“Wait until you find your mate, then tell me how much patience you have to stay away from her.”

“I can’t wait to find her.”

“Me too, cause then maybe you won’t be so uptight all the time.” I laugh as he scowls at me.

“I am not uptight. I’m just careful and take my job seriously.”

“Sometimes a bit too seriously. Like that scenario you gave earlier. You know that we are all linked, so if someone was actually captured I would know. It wouldn’t take much for me to take out a bunch of regular wolves then leave one alive just long enough to tell me where my pack member is before killing them. I doubt it would be any Lycans that I would have to face seeing as how they all live in the kingdom. Well, most of them anyway, and those that don’t choose to live in their own homes outside the kingdom walls.”

“That’s true but I still prefer to know where you are and that you are safe.” Shaking my head, I get up to pour myself a glass of whiskey.

“David, you said that you couldn’t reach me through calling, texting, and mind-linking right?”

“Yes.”

“So do you mind telling me what you should do if all of those ways fail?” Sipping my drink, I watch as his brain finally catches up to what I’m hinting at, and I smile trying to hold in my laughter.
