The Lycan King and His Mysterious Luna Chapter 30

“We are all here to basically make sure that nobody says anything about the other night. Nicholas and Zachariah, we are not going to say anything about your sister shifting. As far as anyone is concerned it was someone being attacked in the woods or something. I know other pack members had to have heard the screams. As for what the two of you heard when my mate called Alexander ‘your majesty’ know that he is of royal blood. They were on a mission for the King at a neighboring pack but nobody is to know that he is of royal blood while he is here. Too much attention would cause unnecessary problems. The rogues are out for anyone of royal blood and we don’t need them coming here causing trouble. There are two more things that we need to address.” My father looks at me and then at my mother and I know that he wants to address the fact that Alex is my mate and the fact that we are part Lycan. I mind-link him and tell him to leave out the part of Alex and I being mates until the Mate Ball.

“Okay it seems that there will only be one more piece of information that I need to share with you for now. Nicholas, your sister is part Lycan and that is why her shift was so horrible. Apparently, you may also have a Lycan but the gene is dormant in you. I will let your mother explain what is going on.” We all look at my mother and she nods her head before taking a deep breath.

We all take a seat and listen once again to my mother tell the story of how life was back in her old pack before she met our father. I can see my brother’s knuckles turning white with how tightly his fists are clenched as he listens. Currently I'm sitting on the sofa between my brother and Alex so I put one hand on one of his hands to try to calm my brother down a bit. Alex fills in some of the holes just like he did the first time I heard my mother’s horrible tale.

I look around the room and see that Zach is staring at Alex with a mean look on his face. I open the mind-link and ask him what is wrong. He looks at me and I see his eyes glaze over as he tells me through the link that he doesn’t like how close Alex is sitting to me and he doesn’t trust him or the others. When I ask him why he doesn’t trust them, he tells me that it makes no sense for them to have been in the woods that night if they were visiting a neighboring pack. Being that they are from the royal court, why weren’t there any cars there to pick them up if they were leaving. We cut the link and I sneak a glance at Alex before turning back to look at Zach and then my parents. My brother is asking about his Lycan and if there is another way to awaken the gene without having a Lycan mate. Alex looks as though he is in thought about the question when his Beta, David, speaks up. I had almost forgot that he and Ethan were even here since they’ve been so quiet.

“The only other way I know of is... well there are two ways and neither are really something you’d want to do in my opinion.”

“What are they?” My brother asks and we all look at David awaiting his answer.

“Well, you could get a witch to help awaken your Lycan but I only advise that if you are friends with one. They tend to keep to themselves and don’t get involved with the issues of other species. They prefer to stick to their own kind and just want peace. The other option is not really an option.”

“Is it really that bad?” I find myself asking David.

“Yes, it is. Have you heard of something called blood rage?”

“I’ve heard stories of it but figured they were just told to keep kids in line. You know, kind of like the boogeyman stories that human parents tell their kids.” I answer.

“Blood rage is very real and happens rarely, but it does happen.”

“What causes it?” my brother asked.

“Usually, it is brought on by the loss of a loved one, mainly a mate. The wolf, Lycan, or both are so enraged that they completely take over for a period of time. Depending on the human part, they can usually be reigned back in after killing the source of their rage, but that isn’t always the case and the wolf will have to be put down. Blood rage is not something you want to have to go through just to get your Lycan.” says David. We all nod in agreement. Losing your mate is devastating enough without adding blood rage to the equation. I find myself looking at Alex and then at my parents. My mother lost one mate, but she didn’t develop blood rage and I’m guessing the reason is because there was no love in that relationship with the way he treated her.

Everyone is quiet for a while before suddenly Zach stands up and pulls me away from Alex on the sofa then stands in front of me. A loud growl rips out of Alex’s throat and immediately he is on his feet. I am standing there stunned for a minute before I hurriedly move in between the two male wolves that are now growling ferociously at one another.

“Zach what are you doing?” I ask.

“I don’t trust them. First, they just magically show up in the woods while you’re shifting and now, they are talking about witches and blood rage. Call me crazy but if they are from the royal court, what the hell were they doing out in the woods when leaving instead of being taken in cars back to the palace? Everyone knows that when anyone from the royal court goes anywhere there is always armed escort. Why is it just these three?”

Everyone is looking at Zach and the looks on their faces tells me that they are wondering about what he just said. I must admit that I did wonder why there wasn’t an escort for them but I wanted to wait until I could get Alex alone to ask him. Alex and Zach are still looking at each other with murderous looks and here I am standing between them. If anything happens I could be seriously hurt so I need to diffuse the situation fast. Mind-linking my brother, I tell him to grab Zach while I deal with Alex. Gently placing my hand on his chest, I look into his eyes and watch him finally look at me and not focus on Zach, then give him a cute little smile. He visibly relaxes and we go back to the sofa and sit down. I notice Zach watching us and see the realization hit and his anger spikes again.

“You gotta be fucking kidding me! He’s your mate!” He yells and I’m a bit startled by the outburst. Alex notices and a low growl comes from him.

“Watch it pup! I am only tolerating you because you are a friend of Freya, but my tolerance has limits. Do not test me.” Alex growls out.

My father stands and moves to the center of the room letting out some of is Alpha aura. “Zachariah, as future Beta of this pack I expect you to handle situations better than what you have just demonstrated. Do you realize that if he wasn’t my daughter’s mate that he had every right to declare war on us based off of the disrespect you just showed? If you felt that they could not be trusted because of how they came to be in the woods last night, then the proper way should have been to mind-link me and let me the Alpha figure out a way to bring up the issue without triggering our guest. Son, you have got to learn to think before you speak and act. Also, there are three Lycans in this room and one is of royal blood, they could have easily wiped all of us out if they wanted to, so if I were you, I’d be thanking the Goddess that they didn’t. Now, as for why they were in the woods without escorts, that is their business and not for us to question. I have known Alex for a very long time and owe him for helping my mate and her pack. If he and the former King hadn’t stepped in and helped, there is no telling what would have happened. I may not have found her and had our two wonderful children.”

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Gamma Ethan fidgeting and I cock my head to the side trying to figure out what’s wrong with him. Alex must have noticed me looking at his Gamma because he followed my gaze and stood up walking over to Ethan. When he was in front of him, Ethan immediately straightened up and looked Alex in the eyes. Both of their eyes glazed over and I know they are mind-linking. I let my focus drift from them to Zach and notice him staring at me.

“What is it Zach?” I ask him.

“Nothing. Not a damn thing.” He scoffs and turns away from me.

Growing tired of the tension in the room, I stand up and ask my father if I could leave. I tell him that I will be at the training yard because I need to let off some steam. Alex is still dealing with whatever is wrong with his Gamma so I leave him to it and go to open the door. The minute the door is opened I am almost knocked down by Renee, who runs past me and right in front of Ethan. Shock appears on my face and on the faces of others as we all hear both of them say “Mate!” at the same time.

They embrace each other and kiss, and the sight is just too much. Quickly I walk out of the room and head upstairs to change into my work out clothes, then I head over to the training fields. I mind-link Alex and tell him to make sure his Gamma keeps his mouth shut about everything and that I’ll explain later. You see, in our society, the Gamma is basically the right hand of the Luna. He is to be my protector or guardian so to speak but now that he has a mate, that role goes to her and he continues with that role with Alex. I will be telling Alex that I will be picking my own Gamma or going without one if I cannot find anyone suitable enough to fill the position. There is absolutely no way in hell that I would entrust my life or anyone’s life to her.

Once I’m at the training grounds, I do my stretches before running some laps. After that I head inside the gym and go a few rounds with the punching bag then move on to lifting weights and finally to weapons. By the time I finish my workout it is close to dinner time and I realize that I haven’t eaten lunch. Leaving the gym, I head to the woods instead of going home to shower and strip from my clothes before shifting and taking off running around the perimeter of the pack. I make sure to only go in my wolf form so that I don’t scare the guys on patrol if they see me.

When I get back to the packhouse after my run, I head upstairs to my bedroom and go into my bathroom. I run the shower and the warm water massages all my muscles helping to relax me. Today has been a hell of a day with all the revelations about my mother and my shifting issues. I grab my towel and dry off my body before drying the ends of my hair that got wet and head to my closet putting on underwear and then some jean shorts and a black tank top. Once I’m done, I head downstairs to the dining room. My father is sitting at the head of the table with my mom sitting on his right and his beta on his left. Alex is sitting with his Beta on his right and his Gamma is sitting in the seat across the table from his Beta with Renee right next to him. I sit next to Alex instinctively. Looking around I notice that my brother and Zach are nowhere to be found. I look at my parents and they tell me that my brother and Zach decided to go out tonight. That’s code for they needed to let off some steam, especially Zach.
