Claire broke out in a cold sweat.

That Frostspike thing was something she made up out of thin air. She had no idea what it actually did.

Jeffrey knew she tricked those three into finding it, yet he still planned to eat it right in front of her. Was this a test?

Claire didn't even want to think about it.

The beauty holding the Frostspike remained on her knees. Her legs had gone numb, and her hands were aching from the cold, but she didn't dare stand up.

"Female, do you think I should eat it?" Jeffrey asked.

"Up to you," Claire replied flatly.

Jeffrey, as if annoyed, put the Frostspike in his mouth.

The beauty on her knees finally collapsed to the ground in relief, but Jeffrey didn't even glance at her.

Crunch. Crunch.

Jeffrey crunched down loudly, his eyes sharp as he stared straight at Claire.

Claire felt as if she'd become the Frostspike in his mouth, about to be swallowed whole.

He wasn't just cruel; he ate his own kind!

Who knew how many beastfolk he had already devoured?

Just like now, he was in complete control of everything!

Claire's back was soaked with cold sweat.

Jeffrey watched her tremble and felt a surge of satisfaction. This was the reaction he wanted—total submission! Without fear, there was no absolute submission.

She was truly scared!

"My patience is wearing thin. You returned every single thing I gave you. But my three beauties are much more lovable. They treasure everything I give them. If you don't want it, plenty of others do."

The three females looked even more eager, their curvy bodies practically pressing against him.

It was hard to watch.

"I hope there won't be a next time. You should be grateful for how well I treat you."

Claire lowered her head, her body trembling slightly.

It was a display of power—a warning!

She couldn't refuse his gifts anymore. If she did, he would crush her just as easily as he'd crushed that Frostspike.

Jeffrey waved his hand, finally letting her leave.

Claire felt like she'd just been pardoned. She hurried back to her cave.

Seeing her holding her stomach, her lips pale as paper, Eira couldn't help but feel bad. She handed her a cup of water.

"Why do you keep going against him? You're the one who ends up suffering." Eira sighed, trying to persuade her.

After spending the last few days together, Eira had seen how Claire treated Jeffrey and found her much more likable now.

Claire gave a faint smile.

The torch on the wall flickered twice, then went out with a soft pop. The cave instantly fell into darkness.

One downside of the underground caves—no sunlight. They had to rely on torches for light.

Eira let out a small "Huh."

"Wait here. I'll go get some embers to light the torches."

All the fire in the underground caves came from a central storage area, where certain beastfolk were assigned to tend the fire there.

Since light was so important, the embers were precious. If someone messed up and let them go out, the beastfolk responsible would face severe punishment.

Claire stopped her.

"No need. I'll light it myself."

With a flick of her wrist, she pulled out a lighter from her storage space.

In the darkness, Eira didn't see it appear out of nowhere. But when a small flame sparked to life, she gasped and covered her mouth.

"Oh my god! That's embers! You can just create fire like that? That's amazing!"

In the flickering light, Claire saw the curiosity in her eyes.

After relighting the torch on the wall, Claire handed the lighter to Eira.

"Here. You can have it."

Eira quickly took the small lighter with both hands, turning it over and over, her voice full of disbelief. "Really? You're really giving this to me? That little flame just came out of this thing, right?"

"Yeah. I'll show you how to use it."

Claire showed her a few times until Eira finally got the hang of lighting it.

Eira was thrilled. She carefully wiped the lighter again and again before wrapping it in several layers of animal hide. Then she tucked it deep inside her fur tunic like it was something priceless.

Watching how happy she was, Claire felt a little guilty. She wasn't giving her the lighter for nothing. She had her own reason.

While Eira was still excited, Claire asked, "Have you lived in this cave since you were little?"

Eira nodded.

"Of course. I was born here."

"Then you must know all the tunnels and hidden paths really well, right?"

"Yeah! I could find my way even with my eyes closed," Eira said, a little proudly.

Claire nodded.

"Eira, I need a favor."

Only then did Eira take a closer look at her.

"So you're trying to bribe me with that thing? Go on. What do you want me to do?"

There was a spark in Claire's eyes as she grabbed Eira's arm, her voice low but excited. "I want you to help me escape."

There was no way she could get out of the underground caves on her own in a short time.

She needed Eira as her guide.

Eira bit her lip, thinking it over.

On one hand, she was still terrified of Jeffrey. On the other hand, she felt bad for this warm-blooded girl who had been snatched away and kept here against her will.
