My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 104: Caught at the Exit
"Really? That's great!"
Eira was pretty much the only decent soul in this underground cave. She wasn't violent like the other rogue beastfolk, and she didn't act like she was under Jeffrey's control.
She had always been trying to save her own kind.
Claire was genuinely happy she could help her.
Eira asked, worried, "Are you going to escape while everything's chaotic?"
Claire nodded. She didn't hide it.
"Eira, I know you're worried too. You're afraid Jeffrey will take it out on you and your clan. If you don't help me leave, I won't blame you. But this is a good chance. If I keep trying, I'll find a way out."
Eira let out a sigh. Then her body suddenly shrank, turning into a knee-high green frog.
There were red ring-like spots on her back.
A poison dart frog!
Eira's beast form was actually a highly venomous poison dart frog!
The frog pulled out a rough piece of animal hide and kept rubbing it against her back. Then she made a small cut and squeezed out a bit of blood, mixing it together.
After that, she turned back into her human form.
Eira carefully folded the rough hide and handed it to Claire.
"This is my poison. I hope it helps."
Claire took it and looked at her gratefully.
"Thank you!"
She didn't waste another second. Claire turned to keep searching for a way out, but Eira pointed in a direction.
"Go that way. Don't turn. You'll find the exit."
In the end, she still told her the real way out. The moment the words left her mouth, her heart felt heavy.
From this point on, she was gambling with her life.
Whether Claire made it out or not would decide her fate.
The best-case scenario was that Claire escaped and Jeffrey never found out that Eira helped her. That way, Eira would still have a chance to survive.
But if Claire failed and got caught, then Eira would most likely be exposed.
Eira watched Claire run off after thanking her and prayed silently, Good luck!
Claire ran as fast as she could, following Eira's directions.
The captured beastfolk seemed to see hope, too—they started rebelling!
Some were running and dodging falling debris, others were fighting back against the rogue beastfolk. Chaos was everywhere.
Claire wanted to cheer them on. The more chaos, the better!
She hoped the riot would leave Jeffrey completely overwhelmed and backed into a corner!
Maybe then he'd be too busy to bother with a nobody like her!
Claire tucked the piece of hide Eira gave her into her storage space, then rushed through one fork after another, pushing forward.
Gradually, she saw fewer and fewer beastfolk.
The noise in the cave started to die down. Maybe Jeffrey had already sent the rogue beastfolk to suppress the rebellion.
By the end, she was the only one left running through the tunnel. Not a single other beastfolk in sight.
She didn't dare stop. Her legs felt like lead, but her desperation for freedom and her will to survive kept her moving!
Finally, she saw the light again!
Claire's face broke into a huge grin as she looked at the exit ahead.
Zane, Rufus, I'm coming!
Beastling, I'm pretty awesome, right?
Hahaha!
Her excited expression froze the moment she saw a figure suddenly appear ahead.
Jeffrey stood there like a gatekeeper, completely blocking the light from the exit and burying Claire's hopes along with it.
"Run. Why did you stop?"
He gave a half-smile, breathing a little hard, his chest heaving.
God only knew how much he'd panicked. After crushing the rebellion as fast as he could, he realized Claire was gone!
He kept telling himself she was just a female and could never navigate the maze of tunnels alone, but he'd still sprinted through the caves at top speed to find her.
Claire's vision went dark. Her legs gave out completely, and she collapsed.
It's over. Totally over!
She shut her eyes and decided to play dead.
She had no excuse left to face Jeffrey!
The moment Jeffrey saw her fall, his heart clenched. He rushed over to check on her.
But when he noticed her eyelashes trembling slightly, he quickly relaxed.
He let go of her, and her head dropped to the ground.
Luckily, it was dirt. It didn't hurt much.
Then she heard his cold voice.
"Still pretending? You think playing unconscious means I won't punish you? I'm pissed."
Claire didn't dare move. She even slowed her breathing, nearly suffocating herself.
After running and worrying the whole time, Jeffrey finally relaxed a little. He sat down beside her, leaning against the wall, staring at the exit just a few steps away.
Outside, the wind howled, and the snow fell in a blinding white blur. There was no sign of life out there.
She'd almost made it out.
But in this weather, she wouldn't have lasted half a day.
"Tell me, what is it going to take to get you to just settle down and stay by my side?"
