My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 40: A Cure in Fire
Elodie stepped aside and made room for Claire.
"No need to look, Ms. Palmer."
Claire leaned in and whispered a few words into Elodie's ear. Almost at once, Elodie's expression eased.
At the end, she glanced at Hazel and quietly stepped back.
Hazel hadn't heard a thing. She asked carefully, "Ms. Palmer, what do you think...?"
Elodie waved her hand.
"Asking me won't help. I don't know this condition. But I'll give you a tip, Claire can treat it."
Hazel's eyes lit up. She looked at Claire with sudden hope, completely forgetting how she had just accused her.
"I can treat her, but I have a few conditions."
"Yes, yes, anything you say!" Hazel agreed quickly.
Fiona's condition was getting worse. Her face looked terrible, and her body kept twisting in pain.
She didn't even have the strength to curse anymore. She could only glare at Claire, full of anger and resentment.
Claire saw how miserable she looked. She stuck out her tongue at Fiona.
"First, when I treat her, no one interferes. You can watch, but no talking."
"Second, Fiona has to apologize to me in front of everyone. She stole my stuff, so she needs to pay me back. I want that bright red fur."
Claire pointed at the most eye-catching piece in the pile. It was a bird hide, soft and warm—perfect for newborns.
Fiona had worked hard to get it and used to show it off all the time.
Fiona's eyes went wide with anger. But the itching all over her body felt like ants biting deep into her skin. The pain made it impossible for her to speak.
"Agreed! We agree to everything! Can you start now?" Hazel rushed to answer for her.
Claire cleared her throat. She told Fiona's mates to wipe the blood off her. Then she picked up a burning torch and slowly walked over.
Fiona stared at her, heart pounding. Claire's eyes looked too bright. The smile on her face felt strange. And that torch... even from a distance, she could feel the heat.
Alarm bells went off in Fiona's head. Panic hit her, and she struggled weakly.
That ugly bitch had to be taking this chance to get revenge. She was going to burn her alive!
Claire spoke in a cold voice, "You two—hold her hands. Don't let her move."
The two mates nearby quickly grabbed Fiona and pinned her down.
The others gathered again, watching closely. Everyone was curious, but no one dared to speak.
Hazel felt her heart shake. She worried about her daughter, but she was also afraid Claire might go too far.
Elodie's cloudy eyes lit up. From what Claire had said, Fiona was just having an allergic reaction. It wasn't serious. But the treatment Claire mentioned? She had never heard of it.
The only one truly calm was Zane. He stood there like a rock.
Claire walked up to Fiona and brought the torch close to her skin.
Fiona screamed, "Don't!"
The flame was almost touching her. Claire really dared to do this in front of everyone? She had to be crazy!
What a lunatic!
Even if I died, I'd never forgive Claire!
But the burning she expected never came.
All Fiona felt was heat on her skin. When she opened her tightly shut eyes, she saw the torch hovering about half an inch away. The flame warmed the patch that had been itching like crazy.
It felt strange.
In an instant, the itching faded.
"It's not itchy... that's so weird..." Fiona muttered.
She couldn't believe it. The itch that had tortured her for so long disappeared just like that.
But there was a problem. Only that one small patch stopped itching. The rest of her body still itched badly.
Fiona looked at the torch moving toward another spot. She felt both nervous and hopeful. It showed clearly on her face.
Claire saw how scared she had been earlier and couldn't help teasing her. She moved the torch a little closer.
Serves you right. Now you're scared, huh?
Not so fun when your life is in someone else's hands, is it?
She kept the heat there until the skin turned slightly yellow, then pulled the torch away.
"Just like this. Heat every itchy spot for a bit, and it'll stop itching. As for the other wounds, just wrap them."
Claire handed the torch to Bruno.
Bruno took it with trembling hands. The torch had to be held close to work, but he was afraid of burning Fiona.
Seeing him shake, Gavin snatched the torch away.
"Look at you, shaking like that. Let me do it."
