My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 12: We Meet Again
"Mrs. Miller, it was Claire! She snapped that branch into my arm on purpose—you have to punish her!" Mona sobbed.
Claire snorted.
"Funny, who was it begging me to save her ten minutes ago? Now that you're free, you're already turning around and biting me. Mona, I'm starting to think that you might not be a monkey after all—you're a dog!"
Mona shrieked, voice going shrill.
"You did this! You have to make it right! Hand over all the berries you picked today, and then you're going to hunt a wild boar and deliver it to my cave!"
"You really are a dog, aren't you? Trying to frame me? I can do that, too! You've been following me this whole time, and my stomach has been hurting for a while now—you must have poisoned me. What should you compensate me with?"
Mona almost choked on the word.
"You—!"
Hazel lifted her hand.
Fiona stepped forward to add fuel to the fire.
"Mom, I saw it, too. Claire deliberately flicked that branch onto Mona."
With Fiona's backing, Mona instantly straightened her back.
Claire laughed.
"Why don't you start from the beginning? Mona followed me everywhere I went. When I tried to pick raspberries, she reached out to snatch them. She was in such a frantic hurry that she accidentally hit the thorns herself."
The surrounding females immediately cast suspicious glances at Mona.
Snatching food was akin to taking someone's life; it was strictly forbidden.
Mona stammered, "I didn't."
Fiona and the rest of her cronies chimed in together, "Mona didn't snatch anything from her."
Seeing that not a single beastfolk believed her, Claire saw the truth clearly. These people didn't care about right or wrong; they all followed Fiona's lead blindly. They were beyond saving.
Hazel also pressed in, rebuking Claire, "Slandering a female and harming a female—Claire, what do you have to say for yourself?"
Claire scoffed.
Just then, a long cry echoed from the heavens as a gyrfalcon descended toward them.
The beastfolk felt a massive shadow fall over their heads.
Following that, the gyrfalcon transformed into a tall man with short black hair. His face, cold as an iceberg, was extraordinarily handsome, and his black eyes swept coldly over the crowd.
"Wow, so handsome! He looks even better than our clan's number one hottie, Zane!"
"And look, he has two beast marks on his face—he's a Level 2! That's incredible! Our clan doesn't even have a single Level 2."
"I wonder if he has a mate yet..."
The whispers of the females drifted into Claire's ears without missing a word.
She looked closely. Really?
She still felt Zane was the best-looking!
This man was too cold. His short, spiky hair stuck up like a hedgehog!
Pfft!
The association made Claire let out an accidental laugh.
Pome screamed in her mind, "Master, Master! This is the supreme overlord of the sky, a gyrfalcon! How about it? Want to take him as your second mate? His genes are definitely top-tier—he could produce even stronger cubs!"
Claire pursed her lips and thought to herself, Zane isn't bad either!
Besides, this man looks unapproachable. Why would he be interested in me?
Right now, I'm just a scrawny little nobody with a sallow face!
Fiona was the first to approach the man, puffing out her proud chest.
"Male, what is your name? I am the daughter of the fox clan Chief. My name is Fiona."
Rufus gave her a frigid glance, then strode over to stand in front of Claire.
He studied her face, shock flickering in his heart.
The little female from the cliff, we meet again!
So, this was what her face looked like.
He wasn't disappointed; rather, he was amazed that such a thin, small female possessed such powerful willpower to climb up from such a high cliff.
Rufus had never seen such an indomitable female!
"I'm Rufus."
Rufus stared directly at Claire, ignoring everyone else as he introduced himself.
"Claire Harris."
She politely gave her name in return.
Fiona's fury at being ignored simmered just under her skin, but to keep her image in front of this gorgeous male, she swallowed the urge to claw Claire's face off.
Why did every outstanding male always end up looking at that scrawny, ugly troublemaker?
Choking back her jealousy, Fiona moved to Claire's side and asked in a sour tone, "Claire, when did you meet Rufus? Aren't you already bonded with Zane? Don't worry, I won't tell him."
Then, she grabbed Claire's arm like they were best friends and turned to Rufus.
"I'm Claire's best friend; you can just call me Fiona, Rufus!"
Claire yanked her arm free at once.
"Since when were you my best friend? I'd never dare claim that."
The things this girl could say just to impress a male—talk about swallowing her pride.
Claire had to admit, Fiona's lightning-fast switch in attitude was almost impressive.
Rufus glanced at Fiona and spat out just one word coldly.
"Scram."
Back in his own clan, females like her threw themselves at him nonstop, and he was already sick to death of it.
The sight of it made his skin crawl, and his tone naturally turned vicious.
Scolded by the male she fancied, her lips quivered; tears pooled in her eyes. She backed away, glancing over her shoulder with every step.
