My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 44: A Feast to Win Hearts
That night, Zane told Claire what he had in mind. She thought it over and agreed.
The next day, they got busy and prepared a lot of food.
It was the first time Claire had cooked since she got pregnant.
A pot of sweet Silkroot and pork ribs bubbled on the fire. The milky broth gave off a rich, inviting smell. Nearby was roasted meat marinated with herbs. It turned the golden and crisp on the outside, tender inside. Zane drizzled honey over it, making it look and smell even better.
Sweet potatoes roasted in the coals, their skins split open, syrupy juices dripping out. Just the smell could make anyone hungry.
Soon, a small figure appeared outside Claire's cave.
Tyne stood there, sniffing the air. The smell was so good her mouth watered.
"Smells amazing. What is Claire cooking? How can it smell this good? If only..."
If only she could have a bite. That would make her so happy.
Her mate grilled meat for her too, but it was always the same. She was tired of it.
She really wanted to ask Claire how she made all this.
Claire had noticed her a while ago, but she kept cooking. This meal mattered.
Even with Zane helping, she was tired. She sat down on a wooden stool to rest.
"Done!"
She waved at the small figure.
Tyne looked behind her, confused. No one else was there. Then she realized Claire was calling her.
Blushing, she walked over. "C-Claire!"
Claire didn't mind the way she spoke. She remembered her. This was the girl who had stopped her from eating sourfruit before.
"You're Tyne, right? You've been watching for a while. Want to try some?"
Tyne froze for a second. Then her mouth answered before her mind could stop it.
"Yes!"
She quickly added, "N-no, Claire! I'm not asking for your food. It just smells so good. I only wanted to ask how you made it."
If her mate could learn, she could eat food like this every day. That would be perfect.
Claire smiled at her shy face. She had Zane scoop some food into a wooden bowl and handed it to her.
"This... this is for me?"
Tyne stared at the bowl. The smell rushed straight into her nose. She reached out and took it.
"Yeah. It's yours. If you want to learn how to cook it, I can teach you another day."
She was too tired today. And she still had something important to do later. Claire doesn't have time to teach her.
Tyne left happily with the bowl.
As for the bowl, Claire told her to return it after she finished eating.
At that moment, Tyne admired Claire more than ever.
How did Claire know so many amazing things? Silkroot and this wooden bowl. It was so much better than using leaves.
Wrapping hot meat in leaves always burned your hands. But now, even with steaming food, she could hold the bowl without feeling the heat.
Claire was incredible.
Tyne ran back to share the food with her mate.
Claire rested where she sat. By the time Zane returned with Rufus, her energy had come back.
After a few days apart, Rufus still looked the same, proud and a little awkward.
He looked around the cave, frowning.
"This place is too small. And that side isn't even smooth," he complained. Then he glanced at Zane with disdain. "You dug this cave? It's terrible. A male like you wouldn't attract any female in our clan."
Zane didn't back down.
"Good. I only need Claire."
He even shot Rufus a smug look.
Rufus went quiet and frustrated. He stole a glance at Claire from the corner of his eye.
Claire smiled and pointed to the table beside her.
"To thank you for guarding our cave, I made all this food. See if you like it."
She knew Rufus couldn't resist good food. Only when he faced it did his pride soften.
Sure enough, his eyes lit up the moment he saw the dishes, bright and steaming.
"This... you made this for me?"
He spoke as he quickly sat down on a wooden stool by the table.
Claire's cooking was far better than Zane's. He hadn't tasted it in a while.
And he hadn't seen Claire in days either. He had missed her a little.
Claire glanced at Zane. They shared a look and smiled at the same time.
The meal was a great success.
Especially for Rufus. He praised every dish, wishing he had another mouth so he could eat even more.
Zane ate with calm, careful movements, already thinking about how to bring up what they wanted to discuss.
Claire watched Rufus enjoy the food, feeling satisfied.
There was nothing better than seeing someone enjoy her cooking. And it was even better when that someone was a person she didn't dislike.
