My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 56: A Morning of Snow

Claire urged, "That's great! Zane, hurry and eat it!"

She even reached out and pushed the little herb into his mouth. His lips were warm and soft. They looked nice to touch.

Without thinking, Claire brushed them twice. Then she noticed his animal ears and couldn't resist. She reached up and rubbed them.

They felt just as good as always.

Zane chewed the slightly bitter herb. He held her close and let most of her weight rest on him, making it easier for her to reach his ears.

It was a good thing he kept his ears out all the time.

He knew Claire liked them.

Rufus, standing nearby, cleared his throat loudly.

"Hey! I'm still here, you know!"

Only then did Claire snap out of it. She straightened up, a little embarrassed.

Zane shot Rufus an annoyed look for ruining his moment.

"Is the food still there?"

"Of course. My scent's all over that place. No one would dare go near it."

Rufus said it confidently, but inside he was still a bit irritated.

So they got all cozy while he was gone?

Claire noticed his mood. She walked over and held his hand, which was still a little cold.

"I know you worked hard. Tomorrow, take me with you. I've got some really big news to tell you!"

Rufus pressed her for details, but Claire just dodged the question. She said she couldn't tell him yet.

That night, Rufus helped Zane take care of the young ones while thinking nonstop about what the "big news" could be.

"Zane, what is it? She didn't tell you either?"

He tried to get something out of him, but Zane just shook his head.

"I don't know. Why are you so anxious? She'll tell you tomorrow."

Zane skillfully soothed all the little ones to sleep, then sat down to rest with his eyes closed.

He could feel it—the Level 2 Moss Herb was working. He was close to breaking through.

After a good night's sleep, Claire yawned and stretched.

She turned her head. Zane and Rufus both looked exhausted, like they hadn't slept at all.

Zane still looked okay. A bit tired, but he was adjusting each baby's sleeping position.

Rufus, on the other hand, looked like he might collapse any second.

"Morning, Zane! Morning, Rufus!"

Claire got out of bed and stretched her arms.

It felt so good not having a big belly anymore. She could sleep however she wanted. One good night, and she felt refreshed.

"Hmph. Look who finally woke up. Four feedings last night, and someone didn't wake up once!"

Rufus stared at her with a bitter look.

Claire scratched her head.

She did remember, vaguely, hearing Zane call her. He said the babies were hungry and needed feeding.

But she hadn't even opened her eyes. She just shifted into her animal form and kept sleeping.

And stayed that way all night.

No wonder they looked so worn out.

Claire teased him, "Oh come on, Daddy Rufus, just hang in there a bit! Look at Zane—he's still busy!"

Rufus pouted.

"Hmph. They're not even my kids. Of course he should be doing more."

Then he looked at her with bright eyes.

"Claire, when are you going to have a litter for me? I promise I won't complain!"

Claire was starting to feel hungry. She touched her stomach but froze when she heard that.

"Fine! Of course I will! The next litter is yours. Don't worry, you won't be left out!"

Claire was very proud of herself. Fair and square—one birth for each.

Rufus finally stopped complaining. He glanced at her stomach, then got up and went to cook by the fire.

At that moment, Zane turned around.

Claire immediately noticed something new—another beast mark had appeared on his face. Two dark red marks now sat side by side on his cheek, giving him a wild look.

"Wow, Zane, you reached Level 2!"

"Yeah. Thanks to you. Without you, I don't even know where I'd be now."

Maybe he would've been driven out of the clan for refusing to become Fiona's slave. Or maybe he would've been forced into it, living a humiliating life every day.

Without Claire, he would still be a Level 0 nobody.

Both the Level 1 Amethyst Berry and the Level 2 Moss Herb were given by her.

It felt like fate hadn't forgotten him after all. It led him to Claire.

Claire hugged him. While she did, she sneakily tried to feel if his body had changed after reaching Level 2, but she couldn't tell.

Zane leaned close and whispered in her ear.

"If you want to check, wait until the babies are asleep tonight."

Claire's face turned red instantly. She quickly cut him off.

"Ahem! We'll... talk about that later!"

Then she ran out of the cave like she was escaping.

Outside, everything was pure white. After a full day and night of heavy snow, the world was covered in white. The snow was almost up to Claire's knees.

Zane and Rufus had already cleared the yard. In one corner, they had piled up a small hill of snow.

"I've never seen snow this heavy before!"

Claire admired the view for a moment. Then she spotted several figures walking toward them through the snow in the distance.
