My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 84: Taken by the Storm
Idiot!
Claire cursed silently, watching the titan python thrash in agony.
Then, unexpectedly, the titan python snapped its head toward her, as if it had heard her thoughts.
"I'm not an idiot."
Its voice was low, strained with pain.
Claire blinked, startled, but didn't dwell on it. Even if it could hear her, it was about to die anyway.
And hearing thoughts? That was ridiculous.
She must've been overthinking.
Nearby, Jeffrey stood still, calmly waiting for his prey to die from the venom.
Half an hour passed. The titan python was still alive, writhing.
An hour passed. It was still struggling, its body convulsing in unbearable pain, yet refusing to die.
Jeffrey grew impatient. He ordered a soft fur to be brought over and simply lay down, waiting.
One of the rogue beastfolk tried to move in for the final blow, but Jeffrey stopped him.
"If you've got a death wish, go ahead. A dying beast's last strike. Think you can survive it?"
No one dared to approach. Claire kept watching, even letting out a yawn.
The moment she finished, Jeffrey noticed.
He ordered someone to drag her out of the cage and forced her to sit beside him on the fur.
Claire shot a stubborn glance toward the titan python.
And then the titan python stopped moving. Its massive body suddenly surged forward like a train at full speed. This was what it had been waiting for.
Claire and Jeffrey were caught completely off guard and sent flying.
Jeffrey tried to get up and grab it, but the panicking rogue beastfolk blocked him for just a split second. That single moment cost him. He could only watch as the titan python escaped.
Before Claire even hit the ground, the world around her blurred. Then she landed on something cold and slick.
In the next instant, she was carried straight into the storm. The wind howled against her bones. Snow lashed across her face and piled over her hair.
She reached out, trying to steady herself, but the snake's body was too smooth. There was nothing to grab.
Not again. She had been taken by a snake. Again.
Claire screamed into the storm.
"Are you kidding me? Not this again!"
Her voice vanished into the wind.
Back in the collapsed cave, Jeffrey stared at the retreating titan python and the figure on its back. His eyes burned red with fury.
The rogue beastfolk had been crushed in large numbers. Nearly 90% were dead or injured. Only a handful survived, those who had been near the cage. The sturdy structure had shielded them from the falling rocks.
The females inside trembled in terror. When they saw Jeffrey's expression, they shook even harder. Without warning, his lower body shifted into a serpent's tail.
In a flash, it pierced straight through a rogue beastfolk's chest. The sharp tail became a weapon, stabbing through one heart after another.
"Useless trash! Die!"
Those who tried to flee were caught and killed just the same.
Only at the moment of death did they realize how cold and ruthless their leader truly was. Just for getting in his way, they were erased.
When it was over, only the females in the cage remained. They watched as Jeffrey dragged his blood-soaked tail toward them.
The heavy cage was smashed aside. None of them escaped. One by one, they were swallowed whole by the king cobra.
His body swelled further as he devoured them, then he dragged his bloated form away, abandoning the lair he had occupied for a year.
Hours later, Zane arrived.
"There were massive tremors here yesterday and today. Something must have happened."
He leapt onto the collapsed rocks, surveying the ruined cave.
Snow had already begun to cover the traces, but higher up, it was still clear that two massive beasts had fought here.
One of the scents was unmistakably close to Jeffrey's, that king cobra with the earthy, soil-tinged smell.
Zane searched the area and soon caught a familiar scent near the cage.
"Claire!"
But the cage was empty. He noticed the dead rogue beastfolk scattered around, confusion tightening in his chest.
The white wolf let out a howl and began tearing through the rubble, searching desperately.
"Claire, where are you? Claire! I'm too late..."
Guilt crushed him.
Since the moment they were separated, he hadn't stopped searching. It had only been two days, yet it felt endless. His worry had grown with every passing hour.
Now fear took hold.
Where could he even begin to look?
He didn't dare think any further. He could only pray to the Beast God that the worst hadn't happened.
From between the collapsed stones, a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed his paw. Zane's heart leapt. He quickly lifted his paw.
A female beastfolk hung from it, unconscious.
"Fiona!"
He flicked his paw. Fiona dropped onto the rocks like a discarded rag.
