But the one standing before her was Zane.

As expected, he didn't react at all. His ears flicked slightly, and when he caught a faint cool gasp nearby, he shook his head in quiet helplessness.

Claire was clearly hiding again.

She must've been watching him deal with this nuisance.

"Zane, aren't you touched? Wasn't it your lifelong dream to be my husband? My mother saved you so you could marry me."

Fiona laid everything out, already imagining him agreeing happily.

He didn't.

Zane remained still, expression indifferent.

Fiona's temper flared.

"Zane, I don't even mind that you've already been with Claire, yet you act so cold. As long as you kill Gavin and break your bond with her, I'll agree. You can be my beast husband openly."

"Keep dreaming."

Zane let out a scoff.

The female before him seemed so deluded that it disgusted him.

Claire crossed her arms and laughed quietly, completely pleased with his response.

Half losing control, Fiona grabbed Zane's left hand and screamed, "Stop pretending. You married Claire just to spite me, right? You were angry I refused to accept you back then. You weren't even Level 1. You were only fit to be a beast slave. So you bonded with my rival to provoke me.

"Now you got what you wanted. I'm jealous. I want you back. The position is yours. I like you. I want you, Zane."

The more she spoke, the more reckless she became.

With his hand trapped in her grip, Zane's revulsion peaked. In the next instant, he transformed into a massive silver wolf and flung her several feet away.

The wolf lunged forward and pinned her down with one forepaw.

"Say one more filthy word, and I won't show mercy. Even if you're female, I won't hold back."

He had tolerated enough.

Fiona's body shook from the fall, yet when she saw the silver paw pressing her down, she wrapped her arms around it.

The thick fur felt soft and luxurious. Compared to her other mates' coarse hair, it felt wonderful.

Holding it tightly, she shouted, "I knew you still liked me. You didn't use full force. You didn't want to hurt me, did you? Just admit it."

Zane felt as if something fat clung to his paw. He tried to shake her off immediately.

When Claire stepped forward and saw the scene, she almost pitied her mate.

Clearing her throat, she walked over and said, "Fiona, you're hugging my mate. Do you have no shame? If the other females hear about this, what do you think they'll say?"

They would certainly guard their own mates carefully.

Startled, Fiona loosened her hold. Zane flung her away again, even harder this time.

She tumbled farther before struggling back to her feet.

"Fiona, you're pretty durable. That padding helps, doesn't it? You just gained a sixth mate today and you're already chasing mine. If Gavin isn't enough, maybe you should collect his friends too. Maybe Gabrielle or Gerald Marrow?"

Fiona staggered closer, furious. "Claire, you—"

She stopped when she caught the dangerous gleam in Zane's eyes.

"You set me up with Gavin, didn't you? Claire, you're disgusting."

"Disgusting? Look in a mirror! Yes, it was me. So what? How does it feel? You're hopeless. Gavin is already generous for you."

Claire spoke boldly while patting the restless silver wolf.

Zane focused only on his paw, wishing he could discard it entirely.

Fiona stared at Claire, stunned by the blunt admission.

"I knew it. I'll tell everyone. I'll expose you and get you driven out of the clan."

"Really? Do you think they'll believe you so easily? Did you forget what happened with the sacred fruit? It's only been days. I'm sure they still remember who lied."
