My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 120: Mutation
But to Claire, Marcus just looked adorable.
On his round head were two small, black eyes darting around. His fluffy limbs stomped hard against the ground, full of strength, like he was ready to crush Maxim if he dared come closer.
Even though this giant panda was four or five times bigger than the ones in modern zoos, Claire still found him unbelievably cute. She almost wanted to hug him and squeeze him tight.
Too cute!
And yet, Marcus clearly thought he looked powerful. He kept stomping and challenging the tiger, letting out low growls.
Maxim took two steps back. He looked scared but still tried to act tough.
"Mr. Holland, don't get too proud! I'll be waiting to see you beg for mercy one day!"
Then he pushed through the crowd and ran off.
Claire walked over and hugged one of the panda's legs, gently comforting him. "It's okay now. Let's go home."
She had already walked through most of Grimstone, and it was getting late anyway.
With her calming voice, the once-agitated panda slowly settled down and turned back into human form.
On the way home, Marcus stayed quiet. He followed closely behind Claire, his head lowered. His eyes were red and watery.
After a while, Claire noticed something was wrong. She pulled him to her side so they could walk next to each other.
She reached up and gently patted the back of his head.
"What's wrong? Did Maxim scare you?"
That tiger had looked fierce, sure. But in human form, he was nothing special. A grown man bullying someone like Marcus—it was just awful.
Marcus pouted. "Claire, am I scary? Why is everyone so afraid of me?"
When he thought about the gasps and whispers from earlier—the way people called him "scary"—his heart hurt.
Claire took his hand. "What are you talking about? They just don't know how adorable you are!"
He was just born in the wrong world. Back in the modern world, he could probably live a great life just by being cute.
"So you mean you like my beast form?" Marcus asked carefully.
"Of course! I love it!"
She really wished she could have a giant panda like him.
Marcus's mood instantly lifted. He decided that Claire must think his beast form was strong and impressive. Everyone else just didn't understand.
Yes, that had to be it!
After they stepped into the yard, Claire guided Marcus to sit down on a stool.
"I heard people call you Mr. Holland. What does that mean?"
"Oh, my dad used to be the city lord of Grimstone. But a while ago, my mom, my sister, and my dad all passed away. Now my uncle, Finlay Byrne—my dad's older brother—is in charge."
"Your uncle? Does he have the same beast form as you?"
"No. My form is different from everyone else's. My dad said they're all normal bears. I've been different since I was little..."
Claire clicked her tongue softly. A mutation like this wasn't that strange to her.
But the way everyone kept their distance from Marcus—that was the problem.
They probably treated him like some kind of monster.
Claire felt even more sorry for him. She gently rubbed his head. His slightly curly hair covered his red ears, making his face look even smaller.
Marcus quickly forgot what happened earlier. Soon, he was excitedly talking to Claire about everything they had just experienced.
Even though he couldn't see, his hearing was sharp. No sound escaped him. All the different noises blended together like a beautiful song, filling him with a joy he had never felt before.
"Marcus, how does Finlay treat you?" Claire asked.
With Marcus's status, he should have servants taking care of him.
"Uncle Finlay treats me well! He even invited me to his Sky Rites!"
"Sky Rites?"
Claire suddenly remembered something. Even after returning to her room, those words stayed in her mind.
She poured some warm spring water from her storage space into a tub and stepped in.
The water was still perfectly warm. It eased her fatigue right away. After soaking for just a short time, her whole body felt relaxed and refreshed.
Then she took Davy off her wrist and placed him gently into the water. She watched him closely.
"Looks like you've grown a little. Your scales are shinier too. And your tiny horns got a bit bigger!"
Claire called softly, "Davy, wake up."
The only response was the faint rise and fall of the little snake's body.
Claire didn't give up. She carefully wrapped Davy back around her wrist.
It wasn't that she didn't want to leave him in her storage space. But Davy was special. After being struck by lightning, his body was weak. She needed to keep an eye on him at all times.
Since he rested quietly on her wrist, it didn't bother her much. She even treated it like extra weight for training.
Lying on the bed, Claire couldn't help but think about the miserable night before—running through the snow, trying to survive. And when she thought about Jeffrey chasing her again and again, irritation filled her chest.
