Claire looked at Rufus and waited until he nodded before speaking.

"Tyne, how about coming with us to the eagle clan? That might be the only place willing to take us in now."

Tyne glanced at Kaleb, then finally nodded.

"Then we'll have to trouble you, Claire. When we reach the eagle clan, we won't cause you any problems."

Claire knew Tyne was kind-hearted. If it had been any other female, she wouldn't have made that offer.

After resting for a short while, they started moving again.

Rufus walked ahead in front. Zane carried Claire in the middle. Tyne and Kaleb followed behind them.

"Traveling like this is slow, but it keeps the noise down," Zane explained. "We don't know if the rogue beastfolk will chase us, so we still need to stay careful."

Rufus snorted. "At this speed, when will we ever reach my clan? I doubt those rogue beastfolk will chase us. They just took over the fox clan. They won't care about a few escapees."

Still, Zane couldn't shake the uneasy feeling inside his chest. That was why he insisted on moving this carefully.

Claire agreed with Zane. No matter how much Rufus complained, she ignored him.

Rufus was an eagle beastfolk and hated long trips on foot.

They had walked the whole morning, yet it still wasn't as fast as two flaps of his wings. The pace felt painfully slow to him.

The younglings began making soft whimpers.

Claire knew they were hungry, so she suggested stopping to eat.

While Zane went to build a fire, Claire carefully took the younglings out one at a time.

After being stuck inside the pouch for nearly a day, the younglings were excited. As soon as they came out, they ran wildly across the snow. Even when they fell over, they weren't scared. They just climbed back up and kept running.

Tyne watched the lively little younglings, and her heart twisted with envy and guilt.

"They're still so little, yet they already have to travel like this. It's awful. This is all Fiona's fault! I never imagined she'd join rogue beastfolk! And she even led them into the clan! Because of her, our home is gone!"

The more she spoke, the tighter grief closed around her throat.

The attack had happened too suddenly. She hadn't even had time to react. They fled in such panic that they didn't take any food.

If they hadn't met Claire, they would have collapsed from exhaustion or starved to death.

While watching the younglings, Claire spoke calmly, "Look at them. They don't think they're suffering at all.

"Tyne, you're still young. When you get older, you'll understand. What's already happened can't be changed. Don't torture yourself over the past. We need to think about the future now."

That was just how life worked in the Beast World. Small clans always struggled.

If disasters didn't strike, then conflict with other beastfolk did. It was hard for them to grow into big clans.

Rufus finished cooking the younglings' meat mash, let it cool, and then fed them with a wooden spoon.

Since he added a bit of salt Claire provided, the food didn't taste bitter. The younglings ate happily until their tiny bellies became round and full.

"Claire, my eagle clan is large. Once you arrive there, you won't have to worry about rogue beastfolk attacking again."

Claire had already learned some details about the eagle clan from Rufus, and she felt hopeful about going there.

They sat around the fire as meat roasted and sizzled. After a while, the snow stopped falling, though thick gray clouds still covered the sky.

Claire looked around, then whispered to Rufus, "I'm going to take care of something over there."

He understood what she meant. Even though he didn't understand why she always needed privacy, he nodded anyway.

"I'll go with you."

Claire stiffened and refused immediately.

"No need! It's just over there. If you're next to me, I won't be able to do it."

Rufus looked toward Zane, who was busy putting the younglings back into the fur pouch.

"Fine. If something happens, shout for me!"

His eyes flicked to Claire's stomach. It was still flat, so it probably wouldn't affect her movement.

Besides, he had already left his scent nearby. It carried the strong presence of a Level 2 beastfolk. Any wild beast with sense wouldn't dare approach.

After Claire finished relieving herself and pulled up her fur skirt, a strange sound came from behind her.

Crunch!

It sounded like footsteps pressing into snow.

Someone is there!

The moment Claire turned, she saw a vicious crocodile beastfolk lunging at her with its jaws wide open.

"Rufus!"

She only had time to scream before rolling across the ground, barely avoiding that deadly bite.

Rufus and Zane rushed over at once, but the crocodile beastfolk had already slipped back into the dry reeds.

"Claire!"

Both of them shouted her name in fear.

Claire wasn't injured, but panic squeezed tight inside her chest.

"We have to leave now! The rogue beastfolk found us!"

Luckily, the one who appeared earlier had only been an ordinary rogue beastfolk, not Jeffrey.

If it had been Jeffrey, she likely would have already been helpless prey.

Zane quickly packed everything, lifting both Claire and the younglings onto his back. Then, he pushed off the ground with his strong claws and sped forward in a flash.
