My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 92: Before the Lightning

5 min 2 views

While still in shock, Claire lowered her head and thought that the current Davy probably wouldn't be afraid of Jeffrey, that venomous snake, anymore.

Her gaze shifted slightly. On the calm surface of the hot spring, a shadow appeared faintly.

It was a man so beautiful he didn't seem human. Long blue wavy hair draped over his bare back as he tilted his head up, looking at the drake in the sky.

He seemed to be bathing. Only his delicate collarbones were visible, while the rest of his body remained submerged beneath the water.

Claire felt that he looked familiar, but for a moment, she couldn't remember where she had seen him.

As if sensing her gaze, the man slowly turned his eyes toward her.

His deep eyes shimmered like blue sapphires, filled with a watery glow. He looked at Claire for two or three seconds, then slowly sank into the water and disappeared.

Claire leaned closer to the hot spring and looked carefully. She realized he wasn't actually in the water. It had only been his reflection on the surface.

"A mirage? Who was that?"

Claire muttered to herself, absentmindedly stirring the water with her hand.

She was certain that she, or perhaps the original Claire, had seen that man before.

But she just couldn't remember where or who he was.

There had been no beast mark on his face, yet he gave off an unfathomable presence. At the very least, with a face like that, she should have remembered him.

Claire couldn't figure it out.

Then, at that moment, something unexpected happened.

"Hmph, I didn't expect that the little snake I once beat into running for its life would dare dream of becoming a dragon. But I guess you're unlucky. Of all times to transform, you picked now. With me here today, you're probably going to die right here!"

Claire immediately shrank back, hiding her body behind the Ember Fruit tree.

Jeffrey had arrived.

He looked at the drake in the air with clear interest, not the slightest bit anxious. The final step of becoming a drake was enduring a lightning strike.

Only after surviving that could Davy truly become a drake.

"No need to hide. I smelled you from miles away, female!"

Jeffrey spoke casually and even lazily reclined on a rock by the hot spring.

Claire's scalp tingled. Davy was still in the middle of transforming and had no way to protect her, yet Jeffrey had shown up at the worst possible moment.

What was I supposed to do?

Her mind raced, but she couldn't come up with any solution.

She had only just reached Level 1. No matter what, she couldn't possibly be stronger than Level 3 Jeffrey.

Fighting above her level was something she had never even dared to imagine.

Seeing that the female stayed hidden behind the tree, Jeffrey didn't force her out. After all, she was already his prey and couldn't escape his grasp.

It was the perfect chance to let her witness Davy's downfall with her own eyes, a warning to others.

He spoke lazily, "So, two strays who ran with their tails tucked ended up hiding in a place like this. Oh? Why is there some of my venom in this water? Could it be that this spring neutralizes poison? That would explain how he survived my venom multiple times and still stayed so lively. Pretty clever."

Jeffrey casually reached down to scoop some water. His collar fell open, revealing a smooth, pale chest.

What a striking image.

Claire couldn't help but admire it for a second, then immediately felt regret. Beautiful as he was, he was still a ruthless killer.

Just a little longer. Just a little more time. As long as Davy succeeded, he would definitely crush Jeffrey.

A drake wasn't a true dragon, but it was only one step away. How could a snake possibly compare?

Claire looked at Davy, confused. He had already become a drake, so why was he still circling in the sky? Why didn't he come down and kill Jeffrey already?

"Are you thinking that once this big idiot finishes transforming, you'll have someone to rely on? That you won't need to be afraid of me anymore, female?"

Jeffrey laughed.

"Then you picked the wrong side. Do you know what the most important step is for snake beastfolk to become a dragon?"

Claire stayed hidden and didn't respond.

Jeffrey showed no embarrassment and explained on his own, "Shedding skin, growing horns and claws, none of that matters most. The key is the lightning strike. It's a test from the Beast God. If you want to transform, you have to survive the lightning. Only then can you truly become a drake."

Lightning?

Claire looked up at the clear sky. It was a deep blue expanse without a single cloud, with only a pale sun hanging above.

There was no sign of any thunder at all.

Jeffrey had to be lying to her.

Maybe in the next moment, Davy would dive down in his drake form and tear this venomous snake in half.

Just as Claire held onto that hope, several dark clouds suddenly drifted across the previously clear sky.

They moved incredibly fast, as if guided by purpose, and stopped directly above Davy's head. The sky darkened, and faint thunder began to rumble within the clouds.

Claire froze.

Jeffrey's head suddenly appeared right beside her. With a smile, he looked at her and said, "See? I told you there'd be lightning."

"Ah!"
