My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 109: The Truth
Joe held the child, refusing to let go, snapped, "That crap might fool Darius, but I'm not falling for it! I want five million now, or I'm taking your son!"
As the two turned on each other, Darius got even more furious. His chest heaved, and suddenly, everything went black. He passed out.
When he woke up again, he was in a hospital bed, tubes all over his body. His elderly mother sat beside him, sobbing hysterically while clutching a crumpled lab report.
"Mom..."
"Darius, you're finally awake! That damn Lila! She did this to you! She's the one who caused your stroke! And now she's run off. Who knows where she is. The child's gone too. Boohoo..."
"What about... Lila's man?"
"He's been arrested. He confessed everything. He's the one who ran over Claire outside the hospital."
Darius didn't know if it was anger or pain, but his eyes turned red.
He muttered, "Dead is dead. She couldn't give me any kids anyway. It's fine, Mom. Once I recover, I'll find someone else who can have children. I'll be careful this time. I won't get tricked again. No way I, Darius, end up without an heir."
As soon as he said that, his mother looked awkward.
Under Darius's relentless questioning, she finally told him the truth.
"Darius, the doctor said... you have azoospermia. You can't have children."
Darius felt his entire world crumble. His head throbbed, and he blacked out again.
Claire stood there, watching as medical staff rushed into the ward and tried to save Darius. But half an hour later, the heart monitor was still flat.
Darius was dead.
Claire watched as his spirit drifted out of his body. When he saw her, his face filled with guilt. He dropped to his knees, begging for her forgiveness.
Claire just looked at him, cold and silent.
Darius's guilt instantly turned into rage. He lunged at her, but right before he could touch her, a void of darkness swallowed him whole.
Claire watched it all happen, her thoughts a mess, not knowing where she should go next.
What exactly had happened to her?
Had she died during childbirth?
Would she be swallowed by darkness like Darius?
In the middle of her panic, Claire felt her body suddenly plummet. The intense sensation of falling made her heart lurch with terror.
...
Inside the underground cave, Jeffrey watched Claire lying on the soft fur pelts, murmuring in her sleep, sweat beading on her forehead. He frowned, sat down beside her, and wiped the sweat away.
Behind him, Eira stood with her hands at her sides, nervous.
"I won't punish you for showing her the way. But there won't be a next time."
"Understood."
Jeffrey stepped out of the cave and saw several beastfolk prisoners tied up and thrown on the ground.
"Mr. Jeffrey, these are the ringleaders of the riot. I've had them scrubbed clean. They're ready for you to enjoy. At least they can still be useful one last time," a rogue beastfolk said with a fawning smile.
Jeffrey frowned as he looked at them. These beastfolk had been bold enough to rebel. Normally, he would've already devoured them and turned them into his own strength.
But this time, he hesitated.
He glanced back at the cave where Claire was resting.
"Forget it. I don't have the appetite."
For once, Jeffrey waved it off.
His subordinate was shocked. He had personally seen Jeffrey devour beastfolk before; he had clearly enjoyed it.
"Spared from death, but not from punishment. Break their legs and send them to dig tunnels!"
The confused subordinate nodded and dragged the prisoners away.
The beastfolk, who had thought they were going to die, exchanged looks when they heard Jeffrey's order, then were dragged away by the rogue beastfolk.
Jeffrey touched his lips, then turned and walked back to Claire's side.
"Female, if you don't like me eating beastfolk, then I won't. But you have to take responsibility for that."
Actually, he wasn't that hungry; his mouth just felt empty.
Claire's lips were soft pink and glossy. They looked delicious.
Jeffrey leaned down, about to take a taste, when Claire suddenly sat up and bumped right into him.
A sharp pain hit his nose, and something warm started to flow.
"Jeffrey! You're bleeding!"
Claire rubbed her sore forehead, then saw the bright red streaks under his straight nose. She immediately realized what had just happened.
She'd headbutted him hard enough to make his nose bleed.
Oh no!
Claire covered her mouth and didn't dare say another word.
Eira quickly handed over a piece of soft, white fur. Jeffrey snatched it and wiped his nose roughly.
"Female, you're getting bolder by the day," Jeffrey said, clearly annoyed.
Claire muttered under her breath, "You were way too close..."
Seeing how pale and weak she still looked, Jeffrey didn't press her further. Instead, he had Eira bring over the meat soup that had been prepared.
"You've been out for an entire day," Jeffrey ordered. "This is for you. Eat."
Claire instantly realized she was starving. She took the bowl from Eira and started digging in right away.
It wasn't exactly a gourmet meal, but it seemed safe enough to eat. There was a familiar taste to the soup. She could tell it was Eira's cooking.
