My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 88: The Unmovable Back

5 min 2 views

Although Davy didn't care about losing one, Claire knew how precious an Ember Fruit was. It had turned her from a Level 0 female into a Level 1.

This was something a Level 1 Amethyst Berry couldn't even compare to.

A Level 1 Amethyst Berry only worked on males. It had no effect on females. Just like when Zane had taken one before, he could level up, but Claire couldn't.

The Ember Fruit was packed with wild fire energy, and Claire leveling up from accidentally eating it was honestly a complete accident.

"Pome, Davy said this was an Ember Fruit. How did you not recognize it?" Claire asked in her mind.

Pome sounded aggrieved.

"Master, I'm not an encyclopedia. I'm just a small, helpless Pomella Fertility System. Everything in my database is related to reproduction. Anything outside that is basically up to luck!"

"What a grind-focused system, working itself to death for KPIs. Pome, can the Ember Fruit really help Davy become a warm-blooded beastfolk?"

Claire wanted confirmation.

Pome hesitated again.

"Master, I don't know. Probably not. Cold-blooded and warm-blooded traits are innate. Even blood replacement shouldn't be able to change that."

Even though Pome wasn't certain, the reasoning still made sense.

Claire agreed and couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for Davy.

For the sake of a rumor, he had stayed by the hot spring for over 10 years, just to change his birth traits.

Davy really was foolish.

Such a stubborn titan python.

Claire watched him nearby as he gathered dry branches to start a fire, and suddenly felt a surge of maternal instinct.

Rogue beastfolk also had mothers, but cold-blooded rogue beastfolk were naturally indifferent. Even their own offspring didn't receive special care.

After giving birth, the mother would leave, letting the youngling fend for themselves.

Among rogue beastfolk raised by nature alone, fewer than one in 10 survived. Living in the dangerous and unpredictable wild made them even more cold and detached, creating a vicious cycle.

That was why all cold-blooded beastfolk were rogue beastfolk.

Davy was the only exception.

Pome's coaxing voice echoed in her mind.

"Master, this male beastfolk is strong, and he's Level 3. Why not take him too?"

Claire rolled her eyes.

"He may look a bit simple, but he's definitely a cold-blooded beastfolk. If he suddenly lost control one day, I wouldn't even know how I died."

He was like a tempting but unstable bomb, both attractive and dangerous.

Claire knew her limits.

She couldn't control him.

"Master, from the professional perspective of the Pomella Fertility System, you should trust my judgment when it comes to choosing beast mates. I won't get it wrong."

"Here we go again, back to your specialty."

Claire watched as Davy skillfully struck flint and lit the fire.

The blazing flames quickly melted the snow within a six-foot radius, revealing a clear circular patch.

"Little female, take off your fur coat and dry it by the fire. I heard females have weak bodies and get sick easily."

Claire had wanted to take it off for a while, but she had been hesitant because of Davy. Hearing him say that, she paused.

"Th-then turn around."

"Huh?" Davy scratched his head in confusion. "Why?"

Claire couldn't help but wonder how he had grown up to this age without knowing something so basic.

Had he lived as a snake his whole life, without communicating with anyone, and therefore lacked common sense?

"I'm taking off my clothes. Of course you can't look."

"Oh!"

Davy obediently turned around. His tall figure stood stiffly under the moonlight.

Claire couldn't stand the damp, sticky feeling on her body any longer. While keeping her eyes on his back, she quickly took off the soaked fur coat.

Davy had already set up several wooden racks near the fire, placed at just the right distance.

Claire hung the coat over them. Drip, drip, water began to fall as it dried.

She then took out another fur coat of the same color from her storage space and put it on. The dry, comfortable feeling wrapped around her body.

Glancing at her slightly swollen belly, she could feel the earlier warmth nurturing the youngling inside.

Unfortunately, there were only six or seven days left until the due date. She didn't know how much effect it would have.

If she could eat an Ember Fruit during her next pregnancy, that would be amazing.

Claire glanced at Davy's completely motionless back and secretly took out two sweet potatoes and two regular potatoes, tossing them into the fire.

Cold season was perfect for roasted sweet potatoes.

As for Davy, she figured he would believe whatever she told him later.

Davy kept his back to her the entire time, not moving a muscle.

Only after the fur coat had dried and Claire changed back into it did anything shift.

Pome muttered in her mind, "Master, I think this male beastfolk might be a little... dead. He hasn't moved at all..."

"What? No way. He said he wasn't afraid of the cold."

Even so, after Pome pointed it out, Claire started to worry he might have frozen stiff. She quickly asked, "Davy, are you still there?"

"Little female, I'm still here. Do you need something?"

His voice was still as deep and steady as before, with no sign of weakness from the cold.

Claire relaxed. She poked the sweet potatoes and potatoes in the fire with a stick. After a moment, she looked toward Davy and started to say something.
