Filled with questions, Claire followed the group with faltering steps.

After slipping out through the fox clan's back gate, they stepped into the open wilderness.

Just a short distance more, and they would reach the shelter cave.

That cave had saved the fox clan many times before and kept them from being wiped out.

So when the cave entrance finally showed through the blizzard ahead, every beastfolk's face brightened. At last, there was a chance to live!

Meanwhile, near the clan entrance, Zane had already shifted into silver wolf form. With a single swipe of his paw, he knocked a rogue beastfolk into the air when it tried to sneak up on him.

He looked even larger than before—about 20 feet tall and 26 feet long. His tail alone stretched 6 feet. His silver-white fur was sleek and shone faintly.

All four of his paws were now soaked with rogue beastfolk blood, the red color standing out sharply against the swirling snow.

Zane opened his massive jaws just a bit and exhaled hot breath. A severed beastfolk head rolled onto the ground.

"That's Austin's head! That wolf beastfolk bit our third boss's head clean off!"

One rogue beastfolk screamed. Zane turned a cold stare toward him, and the rogue beastfolk wet himself right where he stood.

So that scorpion beastfolk had been the third leader of those rogue beastfolk.

"Hmph. Useless trash! How dare you ambush my fox clan?!"

Zane sneered.

With their third leader gone, the rogue beastfolk slowly stepped backward and stopped about 30 feet away, facing off.

The one standing in front was a 22-foot-long crocodile.

The crocodile beastfolk was caked in mud and reeked badly. His long mouth was huge. Every time he snapped it open, another beastfolk from the fox clan died.

That thick row of teeth made everyone feel chills run down their spines.

A rogue beastfolk asked quietly, "Ozzie, Austin is dead. What should we do?"

Their second leader, the crocodile beastfolk, let out a nasty laugh.

"What do you think? We can pick a new one! Here's your chance! Anyone who wants to be the third boss, charge now!"

Pushed on by the crocodile beastfolk, the rogue beastfolk went wild again. Their eyes turned red as they rushed Zane together.

There were still around 40 to 50 rogue beastfolk left alive. Only the crocodile leading them was Level 2. The rest were Level 1 or Level 0.

On the fox clan's side, they had only a few Level 1 beastfolk, but they had many more Level 0 members. With how powerful Zane was, the battle was fairly balanced for now.

After watching Zane kill the enemy's third leader, the fox beastfolk felt fired up.

Right then, Hazel showed up with more clan members to help.

The rogue beastfolk quickly fell into a weaker position.

That crocodile beastfolk rushed forward, opened his long mouth, and lunged at three fox beastfolk.

Suddenly, something heavy slammed onto his back. His whole body was crushed flat against the ground. No matter how hard he fought, he couldn't get up.

He rolled his eyes upward and saw the huge silver wolf standing on him.

Zane's front paws slammed down again and again, pounding the crocodile beastfolk until blood kept spraying from his mouth.

Even though they were both Level 2 beastfolk, this rogue was clearly weaker.

That was going too easily.

A sense of doubt flashed through Zane's mind.

When Hazel saw their strongest enemy getting crushed under Zane, her confidence shot up. She laughed mockingly.

"Hah! Do you think trash like you could bother our fox clan? Didn't you hear Zane already reached Level 2?

"You losers! Get out of the fox clan!"

Even though Hazel was female, she was tough and strong, easily knocking back several rogue beastfolk.

Seeing the battle slowly turning in their favor filled her with excitement.

The crocodile beastfolk forced out a mouthful of blood and burst into laughter.

"Hahaha! You idiots! Did you really think we'd attack without planning first? Every one of you will die today! Our boss is the smartest beastfolk alive!"

Zane's heart tightened. He turned sharply and sprinted back toward the clan.

Damn it!

"Mrs. Miller, I'm leaving this side to you!"

After shouting that, he ran toward the clan's back gate, trying to steady his thoughts.

Maybe he was just worrying too much.

Please don't let my guess be right!

He rushed through the back gate and headed straight toward the shelter cave.

The snow kept falling harder, almost blocking his sight. Large snowflakes landed on his body. Before they could melt, fresh snow covered them again.

A group of beastfolk stood outside the shelter cave.

They were the elderly, the weak, the females, and the younglings of the fox clan.

Blocking the cave entrance were more than a dozen rogue beastfolk!

They wore cruel, smug smiles as they stared at those defenseless beastfolk like meat laid out on a cutting board, almost drooling.

"How did you find this place?"

Those rogue beastfolk had actually hidden here ahead of time, cutting off their final escape path.

Claire squatted beside Elodie. As she glared at the rogue beastfolk who had kicked Elodie down, anger made her grit her teeth.

Moments earlier, when they finally reached the shelter cave and were about to go inside, one female walking ahead had nearly walked straight into a rogue beastfolk's arms.

If Elodie hadn't reacted quickly and rushed forward to pull that female back, she would've been caught.

The rogue beastfolk got furious and kicked Elodie away.

She was already very old. Now she was barely holding on. She only grabbed Claire's hand and quietly slipped a fur scroll into her palm.
