The youngest beastling in the clan was already ten years old. That meant no one had gotten pregnant in the past ten years.

Elodie and Hazel had been worried for a long time. They even brought in males from other clans to pair with their females. Still, not a single pregnancy.

And yet Claire got pregnant in less than a month?

Some beastfolk were shocked. Some laughed it off. A few females looked at Claire with clear jealousy.

Fiona was the first to snap. She shrieked, "I don't believe this! You're lying! You're a liar!"

She had been trying day and night with her mate, and Claire still beat her to it? She couldn't accept it.

As Fiona grew more hysterical, shouting "liar" over and over, a few older females stepped in.

"Fiona, calm down! You'll get pregnant sooner or later!"

"No wonder Claire has been craving sour fruit. I remember when I was pregnant, I couldn't eat anything else."

The experienced females all nodded in agreement.

But Fiona still didn't believe it. Her bloodshot eyes locked onto Claire.

Claire felt great inside. The crazier Fiona got, the more it showed how much she cared. So Claire added fuel to the fire.

"It's okay, Fiona. I'm not mad. You've never been pregnant before, so you wouldn't know cravings are normal."

She rested a hand on her slightly swollen belly and smiled.

That smile pushed Fiona over the edge.

In an instant, Fiona shifted into a scruffy fox. Her fur stood on end, black mixed with patches of yellow. She bared her teeth and lunged into an attack stance.

Claire's heart dropped.

Wow. Fiona really couldn't take much. If she actually attacked, how could Claire handle it?

Because she was pregnant, Claire couldn't shift into her beast form. Her body felt heavier too. She wasn't in any condition to fight.

She quickly asked in her mind, "Pome, if she knocks me down or scratches me, will it hurt the baby?"

Pome answered calmly, "No. Unless she cuts open your stomach—"

"Stop! Stop here! You're scaring me." Claire cut in, her scalp tingling.

Now she grew a little fearful.

Zane wasn't back yet.

Rufus couldn't enter the clan openly.

If Fiona really attacked, this would be trouble.

Just as Claire was thinking how to deal with it, a huge black pig suddenly charged in.

Its short legs pumped fast, but it couldn't stop in time. It slammed right into Fiona and pinned her down.

Slick, playful words came out of the pig's mouth.

"Fiona, don't worry! We'll have plenty of beastling soon. No need to envy anyone!"

Fiona struggled hard, screaming, "What nonsense! Who's jealous? Get off me!"

The pig chuckled. "I've figured it out. We haven't had kids because we're doing it wrong. How about we try it in beast form next time?"

"Get lost!"

Fiona shouted, but a small doubt crept into her mind. Could that really be the reason? She wanted to ask Claire but couldn't bring herself to.

The black pig soon dragged the unwilling fox away.

The crowd slowly scattered.

A few blushing females walked up to Claire. One of them, pushed forward by the others, asked shyly, "Claire... did you get pregnant by... doing it in beast form?"

Claire was speechless.

In this world, males were usually much larger in beast form than females. With that size difference, how would that even work?

She quickly made an excuse and slipped back to her cave.

"Now the whole clan knows I'm pregnant. I'll have to be more careful."

Pome reassured her, "Don't worry. The baby will be born in about ten days."

Luckily, the pregnancy only lasted a month. Claire didn't find it too hard.

She lifted her fur tunic. Her once flat stomach now bulged outward. When she touched it, she could feel faint movement beneath her palm.

It felt like butterfly wings brushing against her skin. Soft. Amazing.

For someone like Claire, who longed so much for a child, every tiny movement made her heart melt.

When Zane returned to the clan, some males came up to him and asked what posture he used to get a female pregnant.

It was a normal topic here.

Zane quickly learned what had happened today. Quietly, he added another mark against Fiona.

That night, he paid a visit to Gavin and Fiona's other five mates.

From then on, Fiona was never alone. At least one mate stayed by her side at all times. Gavin barely left her side, making sure she had no chance to get close to Claire.

Zane had made it clear.

If anything happened to Claire or the baby, the blame would fall on Fiona's mates.

He might not be able to harm a female easily.

But killing a male? That wouldn't be a problem.
