My Beastly Fertility System Chapter 111: A Tree Bark
Jeffrey stood there like a statue, looking down at Claire as if she were nothing but an ant.
Eira couldn't bear it. She crouched beside Claire, gently patting her back as she tried to comfort her.
"Don't be so sad. You'll have more younglings."
Her voice caught in her throat, and she couldn't say anything else. She knew that for a mother who had just lost her younglings, words were useless.
Eira could only hold her, trying to offer what little warmth she could.
Time ticked by. Claire slowly felt her strength returning. The healing pill had taken effect.
Her body was back to how it was before childbirth, perhaps even stronger. Every inch of her muscles felt charged with power, and that strength, mixed with her hatred, drowned out all reason.
She pushed Eira away, swaying slightly as she stood up, then walked toward Jeffrey step by step.
"Jeffrey, didn't you want to bond with me? Didn't you want me to have your younglings?"
She lifted her head again with a smile on her face. The tear stains were still there, making her look almost frightening.
Jeffrey reached out and caught her, a sense of happiness bubbling up inside him.
Finally. She's finally accepting me.
No matter what it took, he finally had this female he couldn't bear to let go of.
Wonderful!
From now on, he would give her everything. Anything the Beast World had to offer, he would find it for her.
If she wanted the entire Beast World, he would fight every beastfolk alive to hand it to her on a silver platter.
And younglings... They would have many, many of them. He wouldn't be alone anymore...
A smile formed on Jeffrey's lips. Just as he was about to speak, a sharp pain shot through his back.
Claire held a syringe between her fingers. There was still some purple liquid left inside. The needle was buried deep in Jeffrey's back, the liquid already entering his body.
Jeffrey frowned at her and instinctively shoved her away.
In just a split second, his back burned with pain, then quickly went numb.
He reached back to touch the spot and asked harshly, "Female, what did you do to me?"
Claire had already put the syringe back into her storage space when he pushed her away. It was one of the rewards she got when she laid those bird eggs. She'd fiddled with it, loaded it with poison, and managed to stab Jeffrey cleanly.
The poison came from the poison dart frog toxin Eira had given her.
She wasn't sure which was stronger—the venom of a king cobra or that toxin.
But she wasn't counting on a small dose to kill him. As long as it slowed him down for even a moment, that was enough.
Watching Jeffrey's face contort in pain, Claire laughed like she'd lost her mind.
"Haha! Jeffrey! I told you before, if you ever touched my younglings, I'd never let you go!"
Jeffrey took a deep breath, his voice strained with pain. "You think a sneak attack can kill me? Female, you clearly don't understand the gap between Level 3 and Level 1."
Even though the spot where she'd stabbed him was throbbing with pain and most of his back was numb, a level one female still couldn't do anything to him!
Jeffrey stepped toward Claire, anger radiating off him.
Out of nowhere, Eira found the courage to step in front of Claire, spreading her arms to protect her. Jeffrey slapped her away, sending her flying several feet.
Claire sneered.
"Of course I know."
Then, she pulled out a handheld anti-tank launcher from her storage space.
The launcher was wrapped in a piece of dry tree bark, hiding most of it. Only the grip and the dark barrel were exposed.
The black barrel pointed straight at Jeffrey.
Jeffrey looked at the tree bark Claire had pulled from nowhere and let out a mocking laugh.
"Female, have you lost your mind? You think hiding behind a piece of bark can stand against me? Bark? Are you serious?"
Eira scrambled up from the ground, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. Her chest throbbed with a dull ache, and she clutched at it as she looked over at Claire with worry.
From where she was standing, all she could see was the slender female holding a piece of dried bark, aiming it at Jeffrey.
Claire's face was the picture of madness.
She had already checked. Both the anti-tank launcher and the gatling gun only had whatever ammo was left in their magazines.
The firearms still had a dozen or so rounds left, but the handheld anti-tank launcher only had one shell!
Once it was used, that was it. One-time use.
But she believed one shot was enough to send Jeffrey straight to hell!
So be it.
She stared at him with a twisted, savage grin.
"You know nothing about technology!"
Then, right in front of Jeffrey's indifferent gaze, Claire pulled the trigger.
Whoosh! Boom!
Jeffrey didn't take that ordinary-looking piece of bark seriously at all. He didn't dodge. He just watched her fire.
But the moment a strange object shot out of the dark barrel, carrying a wave of heat straight toward him, his expression changed.
He tried to dodge, but it was too close. His back had gone numb, and that had slowed him down.
