Jeffrey was starting to get tired of Claire's constant escape attempts. Why couldn't she be like other females and just cling to him?

Was she really disgusted by him because he'd eaten beastfolk?

Jeffrey slowly touched his lips.

To him, beastfolk and animals were no different. They were all just food.

He couldn't understand.

On the ground, Claire's ears were perked, but she didn't dare move so much as a single strand of hair. Her heart felt like it was about to stop. She listened to him talk, terrified to offer an answer.

She ranted wildly in her head, You psycho, I'd have to be crazy not to run! Who would dare sleep next to you? What if you get hungry in the middle of the night and snack on me? Where would I even go to complain? Right, Pome?

"Exactly, you're right, Master. But, ahem, Jeffrey is really hot, though. Maybe just tie him up before sleeping?"

Pome's unserious reply left Claire speechless.

This guy only cares about looks!

Claire peeked through a tiny slit in her eyelids to check on Jeffrey.

He was leaning his head back, staring out toward the exit. He actually looked lonely!

No way. No freaking way!

The big bad guy actually gets emo too?

Still, right now, he had this fragile, almost broken kind of beauty. She had to admit, he was a little easier on the eyes than the bright, sunny types like Zane and Rufus.

Claire shut her eyes again in a huff, refusing to look at him any longer.

When Jeffrey didn't get an answer, he turned to look at her, still playing unconscious.

"Believe it or not, you're the first person I've ever wanted to keep by my side."

Claire thought, Yeah, probably because I'm not fat enough yet. Give it time, and I'd just be another snack.

Jeffrey continued, "I-I've never bonded with a female before."

What?

Of all beastfolk, the experienced, playboy Jeffrey... was actually still pure?

Claire was so shocked she almost opened her eyes.

She lay still on the cold, damp ground. Even with the fur tunic between her and the ground, the chill eventually seeped through.

Damn, Jeffrey!

Why are you talking so much today?

Jeffrey frowned as he looked at her swollen belly. It reminded him of when he first crawled out of his own eggshell.

His mother had heard his cries. But she still left without looking back.

It took him a long time to get his strength back. No matter how hard he thought about it, he couldn't understand why she abandoned them.

Then the second egg hatched. The greed in his blood took over. Driven by instinct, he swallowed the hatchling before it even opened its eyes.

After that, he didn't have time to think about his mother anymore.

Now, seeing Claire about to give birth, it stirred those old memories again.

Are the younglings in that belly like I was?

What are warm-blooded beastfolk like when they're born?

Will they fight each other too?

Will Claire abandon them, like my mother did?

The questions kept circling in Jeffrey's mind, leaving him confused.

Claire was almost dozing off from waiting. Her body was getting colder and colder. Then suddenly, her stomach started to hurt.

A familiar contraction hit her, snapping her awake!

I'm going into labor!

Now! Of all the terrible times!

At first, she could hold it in. But as time passed, the pain grew stronger and stronger. A soft groan slipped out.

She clutched her stomach, cold sweat pouring down her face.

"Master, quick! Take the Painless Birth Pills!"

Claire suddenly remembered—when she gave birth the first time, one of the rewards she got was the Painless Birth Pills. According to Pome, they could ease the pain of labor.

While Jeffrey wasn't paying attention, she brushed her hand past her lips and slipped a pill into her mouth.

It dissolved instantly.

Soon, she couldn't feel the pain anymore, but she could sense something different happening in her body.

The younglings inside her were moving, pushing downward.

Jeffrey crouched nervously beside her, watching her roll around and clutch her stomach, not knowing what to do.

"Female, what's wrong with you? I didn't even touch you!"

He couldn't understand how she went from lying there quietly, playing unconscious, to suddenly being in pain.

"Hey. You're not faking this, are you? Don't think this will make me forgive you for running away!"

Jeffrey frowned, trying to scare her.

Claire, writhing back and forth, paused for a second. Damn. He actually guessed right!

She wasn't in pain anymore. This was all just an act.

But she had to keep it going.

She bit down hard on her lip. The color drained from it, turning pale.

Claire cried out anxiously, "I-I'm about to give birth!"

"What? You're having the cubs? Now?"

Jeffrey panicked even more.

He was the only beastfolk here. He was good at killing things, not delivering babies!

They were already near the edge of the cave; it would take way too long to get back to the central area. Judging by Claire's condition, she couldn't be moved at all.

Claire could clearly see how panicked Jeffrey was. She found it amusing. So the big devil could panic, too!
