Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 128: Roxanna, You're Too Kind
Matthew watched the agitated dog and knew there were strangers nearby, most likely hiding in the dark.
He didn't rush to open the door. Instead, he spoke through the video doorbell. "Where are your guns?"
Number Four and Number Seven both looked uneasy and flustered.
"We lost them!"
"We got ambushed!"
Matthew thought of Number Six's shout over the radio earlier. It lined up.
But he still didn't relax his guard. "Where's Number Six? Why are only the two of you back?"
"We don't know!"
"We got separated from him!"
Number One frowned and quietly said to Matthew, "Something's off. We can't open the door."
Matthew cut off the video call, then dialed Mariella again.
"Mariella, Number Four and Number Seven are at the gate. Number Six is missing. Number One and I both think something's not right with them, so we didn't let them in..."
"I'm back." Mariella cut him off, her voice calm and steady. "I see them."
...
Mariella and Chandler each held an AK loaded with a full magazine as they quickly made their way toward the gate of No. 98.
Ever since the massive blackout, the whole city had sunk into darkness at night, and that only fed the evil growing in it.
The streetlights in Celestine Ridge were also out, but every household had a diesel generator, so each home still kept two lights on at the gate using its own power.
No. 98 had never lacked electricity. The two high-wattage lights at the entrance were bright enough to clearly illuminate everything within about 30 feet.
Naturally, Mariella and Chandler spotted the shadowy figures lurking nearby.
Number Four and Number Seven were still pounding on the gate. Neither of them had any weapons, and there were injuries on their faces, as if they had just barely escaped.
Chandler narrowed his eyes and lowered his voice. "They lost all their weapons and still got sent back? That doesn't add up."
Mariella let out a cold chuckle. "Since they came right to our door, we might as well give them a proper welcome."
...
Harvey decided to forgive Roxanna.
Roxanna heard that he had gone to beg Mariella for her sake. When he came back covered in injuries, even bitten by a dog, she threw her arms around him and broke down in tears.
"Harvey, you've suffered so much! I know if you didn't love me this much, you wouldn't have gone to Mariella and lowered yourself like that. This is all my fault for dragging you into it!
"I'm sorry, Harvey!"
Hearing those gentle and understanding words, Harvey's heart melted immediately.
He figured he still loved Roxanna, and she loved him too.
There had been some rough patches between them, but that wasn't enough to break the bond they had built over the years.
Harvey decided to let the past go and protect Roxanna, cherishing her the way he should.
Ignoring his grandmother's furious objections, he secretly brought in a doctor and spent a large sum to treat Roxanna.
After a few days of treatment, her kidney condition stabilized. As long as she kept taking her medication, it wouldn't be a major issue.
They quickly slipped back into that same inseparable closeness, as if they were reliving the passion and sweetness of their first love.
Roxanna stayed by Harvey's side the entire time, encouraging him, praising him, and admiring him.
Everything had gone smoothly with tonight's plan. Harvey believed it was thanks to the luck Roxanna had brought him, and he grew even more affectionate toward her.
"Tonight, we're taking No. 98 for sure. Mariella is going to pay for what she's done!" he said through gritted teeth.
No one knew that he had already taken control of the rebel thugs in No. 101 behind the scenes, and Damian had always been one of his men.
Roxanna's eyes shimmered as she asked softly, "Once you get Mariella, what are you going to do with her?"
Her fingers traced lightly over his chest, teasing, though the effect was limited since he wore a tie and no skin was exposed.
Harvey used to love it when she got close like this. But for some reason, he frowned slightly now.
Still, he didn't push her away. He kept telling himself that Roxanna had been assaulted, that he shouldn't feel repulsed. In his heart, she was still pure and perfect.
"When I catch Mariella, I'll return every bit of humiliation and suffering she put me through tenfold—a hundredfold!" His teeth ground together, his eyes filled with cruelty.
Roxanna seemed startled by his intensity. "Just don't do it in front of me... I won't be able to handle it."
"Roxanna, you're too kind," Harvey said, momentarily forgetting his discomfort. He leaned down and kissed her lips.
Roxanna responded eagerly.
But the next second, he shoved her away.
"Mariella's here!" Harvey stared at the slender figure stepping out of the darkness into the light. Right beside her was that damn bodyguard.
Frantic barking erupted from inside No. 98, sending a chill down his spine.
Ever since he had been brutally beaten by Mariella's bodyguard and mauled by the dog last time, he had developed a deep, lingering fear of both of them.
