Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 240: Flirting Failed
Serena took the little cake, still looking dazed. Only after her father reminded her did she remember to say thank you. "Thank you, Mariella."
Mariella rummaged through her backpack again and pulled out a box of crispy chocolate cream puffs, handing it to her.
Serena got so excited she nearly dropped the small cake in her hands. Luckily, Matthew reacted quickly and caught it.
"Wow, my favorite crispy chocolate cream puffs, hazelnut flavor! Thank you, Mariella!"
Seeing the child so happy made Mariella happy too.
She winked at Matthew. "Don't worry, you've got a gift too. I'll give it to you when we have a moment."
Mariella opened the doors to the three storage sheds in the courtyard and walked inside.
Sure enough, they were stacked full of firewood. Every log had been neatly cut with a chainsaw and piled into mountain-like stacks.
Her teammates had really gone all out to save space.
Mariella took a deep breath and reached out to touch the woodpile. The mountain of firewood instantly disappeared.
That stack had to weigh at least five or six thousand pounds, yet she barely felt any strain at all. It was obvious her mental energy had grown stronger again.
Only then did Mariella remember that she had taken in another 25,000 pounds of gemstones today and had not yet checked the newly expanded storage space.
She suppressed her curiosity and kept working.
After collecting three "mountains of wood," the first shed was empty.
She went to the second shed and did the same thing, removing two-thirds of the wood stacks and leaving one-third behind.
Then she went to the third shed, where charcoal had been stored instead.
She inspected the charcoal they had made. It actually looked pretty legitimate.
Charcoal took up far less space than firewood. There were only around four or five thousand pounds there, so Mariella decided not to collect it.
She stepped out of the shed and saw Matthew standing outside.
He looked at her quietly without saying or asking anything.
Mariella spoke first. "I reorganized the sheds and freed up a lot more space. Keep records of whatever needs to be tracked. If you run out of supplies, just ask me."
Matthew nodded. "Got it."
...
Mariella returned to her second-floor bedroom, closed the door, and immediately slipped into the storage space.
The happiest thing for her now was checking the new results every time the storage space expanded. It always gave her a huge surprise.
All 25,000 pounds of raw gemstones had already been absorbed by the storage space, and it had undergone another upgrade.
The virtual display showed that the static zone had gained an additional 2,207,166 cubic feet, bringing the total to 10,663,263 cubic feet. The reed marsh had increased by 1.5 acres, bringing the total to 7 acres. The farmland had gained 6.5 acres, bringing the total to 33 acres.
Every explosive expansion of the storage space triggered another wave of accelerated growth for everything in the black soil fields, and it also matured all kinds of aquatic life in the reed marsh.
Mariella took a look. The crops they had planted on a large scale last night had already broken through the soil, sprouted, and grown much taller.
The vegetables and fruit showed even more obvious changes. The cucumber vines had started climbing, and the tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants had all flowered. The lettuce stem was thriving, while the bok choy, spinach, malabar spinach, lettuce, and romaine were all ready to harvest.
Mariella cautiously tried harvesting with her mind, and the attempt worked perfectly.
She stored all the harvested leafy vegetables into the static zone, waiting for the next round of growth before harvesting again.
After finishing the work, she did not forget to check her teleportation distance before leaving the storage space. To her delight, it had increased to 15 feet.
She also discovered that Chandler had already been waiting in her room.
"Huh? When did you come in? Wait, how did you get in?" She clearly remembered locking the door.
Had this guy gone back to his old tricks again?
Sure enough, she saw Chandler twirling a piece of wire in his hand while looking at her with slight grievance. "You didn't invite me into the storage space with you?"
Mariella smiled brightly and threw herself into his arms. "I was just worried about you. I wanted you to rest for a while."
She was not especially skilled at sweet talk, but when facing Chandler, some abilities seemed to come naturally.
It was a strange feeling.
In her past life, when she had dated Harvey, she had never known how to act cute, flirt, or say sweet things.
Other than working herself to the bone for him every day, she had known how to do nothing else, and she had never taken the initiative to be affectionate.
But in this life, now that she was dating Chandler, it was as if all her romantic instincts had suddenly opened up. She knew how to act cute, flirt, and sweet talk with ease.
Was this what people meant by meeting the right person and experiencing the chemistry of love?
Chandler had clearly been coaxed into a better mood.
He put away the wire and returned to his hardworking laborer nature, taking the initiative to ask, "There's more farm work in the storage space again, right?"
"Hold it," Mariella said, stopping this man who seemed addicted to working. She did not want him foolishly repeating her own mistakes. "We can't keep exhausting ourselves every day. We should rest sometimes and enjoy life sometimes too."
She kept throwing flirtatious looks at him.
Chandler studied her carefully and asked, "Are your eyes okay?"
