Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 88: New Threats in the Dark
Mariella froze. She had no memory of these two events in her previous life!
Mariella thought for a moment and reached a conclusion.
In her previous life, the flood had not destroyed the prison, so there had been no report of thousands of inmates going missing. It also hadn't brought crocodiles, so there were no attacks.
In this life, perhaps due to the butterfly effect, many things had changed.
Mariella's eyelid twitched. She had a bad feeling that the disasters in this life might be even harsher than before.
At this point, there was only one option: face whatever came.
No matter what happened, Mariella would confront it head-on.
Just like in her previous life, she had never yielded, not even in her final moments.
...
The next day, when Mariella woke up, it was already past one in the afternoon.
After washing up, she went downstairs to the kitchen to find something to eat.
Each bodyguard had left her a portion of food in their pots, so Mariella arranged them neatly onto a large platter and placed it into a microwave to reheat.
Ding! The food was ready.
Mariella carried the platter out, tasted each dish and rated them, then sent the scores to the corresponding numbered bodyguards so they could continue improving their cooking.
After eating her fill, she walked into the courtyard to digest her meal, casually pulling out her phone to check updates.
There was suddenly a large swing in the yard.
It hadn't been there last night, so someone must have built it overnight out of sheer boredom.
Mariella sat on the swing and looked up, noticing a human-shaped target about fifteen meters ahead.
Practicing shooting while swinging, eh?
Mariella was highly skilled after surviving the apocalypse, but she had never undergone formal military training, so she didn't quite understand the purpose.
She was briefly curious, then refocused on her priorities.
She opened the Celestine Ridge group chat, and it was already flooded with thousands of messages.
The pinned announcement remained, confirming the truth of the two alarming events.
The residents were in chaos, discussing the terrifying news all at once.
"I heard it was the largest prison in Liraelith that got destroyed. Thousands of violent criminals were inside, plus hundreds of death row inmates. These people are beyond redemption!"
"What if they form gangs and come to Celestine Ridge?!"
"Stop saying such unlucky things! They must've been swept away and drowned. Serves them right!"
"How are there crocodiles? That's terrifying!"
"I heard they're extremely aggressive, and they can kill even adults!"
...
Storms, floods, and disasters had already worn everyone down. People were exhausted and on edge.
Even though Celestine Ridge had not yet suffered major damage due to its advantageous location, the constant stream of crises had left everyone deeply unsettled.
Kieran stepped in to calm the situation. "Everyone, don't panic. At times like this, we must stay calm. As long as we stay united, neither prisoners nor crocodiles will be able to harm us!"
The residents seemed to find reassurance, praising him and asking what to do next.
One resident raised the most pressing issue. "What about the power outage?"
They could tolerate 2G signals. They could deal with TV outages using satellite dishes. But electricity? That was another matter entirely.
The most common solution was solar batteries, but since the disaster began, there hadn't been any sunlight at all.
Kieran thought for a moment and replied, "I can donate three diesel generators to the property management. Anyone who needs power can bring their own diesel to use it. Fully charging one battery should be enough if used sparingly at night."
The residents immediately began complaining.
"Only three generators? That's nowhere near enough!"
"Are we supposed to line up every day?"
"Even if we do, we might not get a turn! One battery isn't enough for central air conditioning!"
"You're still thinking about central AC? Be glad if a wall unit works!"
"My food in the fridge is going to spoil!"
...
In the end, everyone agreed that they wanted to buy diesel generators, with at least one per household.
Kieran inhaled sharply.
There were over a hundred households, and they each wanted a generator.
Where was he supposed to get that many?
Especially now, with the flood knocking out all power, demand for electricity had skyrocketed. Diesel generators were practically impossible to find.
And even if he could get them, where would he find enough diesel?
This wasn't a one-time need, and it would be consumed daily. Even a full fuel depot wouldn't last forever.
