Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 69: No Loose Ends
Mariella transferred all the money into her own account, using fingerprint verification when prompted.
She took the assassin's severed index finger from her storage space and pressed it against the phone's sensor, passing the check without issue.
With over 80,000,000 transferred into her account, she now held a fortune close to 100,000,000.
Before the apocalypse, that would've been an enormous sum, but now, as disaster spread, money was rapidly losing its value.
Especially funds sitting in an account, they were now nothing more than numbers on a screen.
If you couldn't withdraw it, it would eventually become meaningless.
Mariella let out a faint sigh of regret. She'd have to find a way to spend it.
From the rooftop above, Kingston's amplified voice rang out again, urging the assassin to hurry up and hand her over.
Mariella suited up in black tactical gear, covering her face with a cloth and putting on her quad-lens night-vision goggles.
She pulled out the sniper rifle she'd taken from the assassin and moved swiftly toward the rooftop.
...
The office building was only twelve stories tall, and the elevator had long since stopped working.
Mariella climbed from the sixth floor to the roof in under five minutes.
Holding the sniper rifle, she used the darkness and the rain as cover, searching for the perfect firing position.
Taking down someone like Kingston didn't require this much effort, but she needed to make sure the helicopter wasn't damaged.
She wanted that helicopter intact. Repairs would be a hassle.
Kingston, growing impatient, kept calling the assassin, but got no response.
He had someone open the helicopter window and continued shouting through the loudspeaker.
Two gunshots rang out. The men beside him collapsed one after another.
Kingston's head snapped around as he saw the two bodyguards he'd brought slumped inside the helicopter.
One had a bullet through the forehead, and the other through the temple. Blood poured from the wounds.
"We're under attack!" Kingston wasn't completely stupid. He shouted, "Take off now!"
Too late.
A slender black figure cut through the rain like a shadow, swift and silent, leaping through the open helicopter window.
The sniper rifle had already been replaced with a handgun as she pulled the trigger at the pilot.
Bang! The pilot slumped forward, motionless.
Kingston let out a scream, only for it to be cut off the next second.
Smack, smack, smack, smack! Mariella struck him four times in rapid succession, left and right, each slap ringing loudly.
Kingston was stunned, his ears ringing as he clutched his head, nearly forgetting who he was.
Mariella brought her hand down sharply on the back of his neck, knocking him unconscious.
The helicopter was too valuable. Until she secured it, she had no time or patience to deal with his nonsense.
Working quickly, she dragged the three corpses out of the helicopter and tossed them aside, then hauled Kingston out like a sack of trash.
She searched the bodies, collecting all their weapons into her storage space. Then she stripped their clothes and used them as rags to wipe the blood from the cabin.
Soon, the helicopter was clean, but the engine was still running, and the rotors slowly turning.
She didn't know how to fly it, and she didn't know how to shut it down, so she simply stored it in her storage space.
Inside the storage space, everything was frozen in time. The helicopter would stop consuming fuel.
Successfully claiming a helicopter put her in a great mood.
Braving the rain, she tossed the three bodies and the bloodied clothes off the rooftop.
They hit the water below with splashes and were quickly swallowed by the flood, disappearing without a trace.
At that moment, Kingston regained consciousness and tried to escape.
Mariella reached out and grabbed him effortlessly.
"Let me go! Mariella, I recognize you!" Kingston finally realized the figure was familiar. She was too slender, too small to be some top-ranked assassin.
Mariella removed her goggles, revealing cold, lethal intent in her eyes.
"Oh? Since you've recognized me, that just means I can't let you live."
...
The bounty hunter called, reporting that not only had the assassin gone silent, but Kingston, the pilot, and the two accompanying bodyguards were all unreachable.
Harvey was stunned and immediately ordered more people to investigate.
Roxanna, however, remained calm, even smiling as she reassured him. "What could've happened? Maybe Kingston just took the chance to teach Mariella a lesson. He's always had a bit of a temper and holds grudges."
She had specifically warned Kingston not to cut Mariella's face, not to blind her, not to break her fingers, and not to cripple her legs. She told him to bring Mariella back intact for Harvey to deal with.
But she knew Kingston well. He'd do the exact opposite.
