Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 159: Alarm in the Dark

The shadow was slim and moved quietly. It took a few steps, then stopped to look around.

After making sure everything was clear, it quickened its pace and headed toward the gate.

"Woof!" Lucky suddenly jumped up.

"Shh!" The figure raised a hand to hush him.

Lucky looked the person over, tilting his head. Oh—it's my teammate.

The team often took turns on night watch. That didn't conflict with Lucky's job, and they didn't need to report to him. After all, he was a guard dog, not the captain.

Weren't two people already on duty tonight?

Lucky felt a little unsure, but he stepped aside anyway.

The shadow reached the metal gate. With practiced ease, the figure typed in the code. Then, imitating Matthew's usual method, the figure prepared to press the button.

"Stop!" A cold female voice rang out from behind.

A bright flashlight beam shot toward the figure. Someone gasped. "It's you! What are you doing?"

The two were Number Five and Number Eight. One aimed a handgun at the person trying to open the gate. The other shone the light on that person's face.

When they saw who it was, both of them looked surprised.

Number Five reacted first. "Don't move. Turn around and put your hands up, or I'll shoot!"

The slim figure slowly turned. Then they raised their eyes, revealing a pale, delicate face.

"Number Ten," Number Five said, gripping the gun, eyes full of caution. "What are you doing sneaking around out here in the middle of the night?"

Alarm bells went off in Number Eight's head. Something felt wrong. He dropped the flashlight and quickly pulled out his handgun from his thigh holster.

He aimed at Number Ten as well, his voice tense. "Were you trying to open the gate?"

Number Ten looked at the guns in their hands, clearly shocked. Then anger flashed across her face. "Since when do you all have guns?" she demanded. "Why don't I have one?"

Number Five frowned. "Don't change the subject. Tell us what you're doing."

Number Ten bit her lip and snapped, "If you won't tell me, I won't tell you either!"

Number Eight sighed and told the truth. "Ms. Townsend handed them out as part of our pay. You were sick, so you didn't get yours yet."

That only made Number Ten angrier. She looked like someone who had just realized she'd been fooled.

She turned to Number Five and let out a cold laugh. "No wonder you didn't come back to the dorm tonight. You were avoiding me, weren't you? Afraid I'd find out about the pay? We've been teammates for a long time. We even share a room. And this is how you treat me?"

Before Number Five could answer, she suddenly reached back and slammed her hand onto the gate button. Her eyes lit up with a sharp, vengeful excitement.

A sharp alarm suddenly blasted through the entire villa.

Mariella and Chandler stayed close behind the gang as they returned to the front gate of Villa 98.

Those thugs had gathered there, waiting, like they were expecting someone inside to respond.

Number Four stood off to the side, typing frantically on his phone, as if urging someone to hurry.

Mariella's eyes narrowed. A thought hit her hard.

Could there really be someone inside helping him? Someone trying to open the gate from the inside?

She had watched the security footage Matthew sent her. Number Six had taken a shovel and stood guard by the gate. From start to finish, he hadn't done anything wrong.

Number Ten, on the other hand, had rushed over, overly tense and picked a fight with him. The two had even started pushing each other.

That kind of infighting had set off alarms for Matthew, so he asked Mariella to review it herself.

After watching the footage, Mariella ruled out Number Six.

Number Ten had overreacted, but she didn't suspect her too much either. Still, to be safe, she had told both of them to stay in their dorm for the night.

She had handed out guns to the rest of the team as payment. She gave one to Number Six too, but not to Number Ten.

She had planned to deal with it the next day. She hadn't expected trouble to hit tonight.

In just a split second, countless thoughts raced through her mind.

She didn't know who the traitor was. What if it was one of the guards who already had a gun?

If that traitor suddenly turned on the team, the damage would be huge.

Mariella pulled out her phone and sent a message to Matthew.

He was probably asleep. There was no guarantee he would see it in time.

So she quickly typed another message and sent it to both Matthew and Number One. "Watch for a traitor. Secure the gate."

The moment she hit send, a piercing alarm went off inside the villa.

No one knew what was happening inside, but the people outside were all startled.

"What's going on?" Big Nose grabbed Number Four by the collar, almost choking him.

Number Four quickly pried his hand loose and said, "It... it might be part of the door-opening process."

Big Nose frowned. He didn't know much about the villa, but he wasn't stupid. "Cut the crap. What kind of house sets off an alarm just to open a door? You think we're idiots?"
