Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 72: A Space Packed to the Brim

5 min 1 views

What shocked him the most was the nearly 35,000 cubic feet of static storage space. It wasn't just packed with food and medicine, but also overflowing with an astonishing variety of supplies. There were twenty to thirty vehicles inside, including massive fuel tankers and heavy-duty trucks loaded with steel.

There were refrigerated transport trucks, delivery vans, all kinds of cars from different brands, and a dizzying array of auto repair parts, including every type and brand of tire you could imagine.

On top of that, there were piles of cold weapons, firearms, various watercraft, liquor and gourmet food, clothing, grains, oil, salt, sugar, daily necessities, coal, fuel... everything imaginable. It covered every aspect of life—food, shelter, transportation—nothing was missing.

The supplies were stacked layer upon layer, like they were arranged on some enormous invisible warehouse shelving that stretched endlessly into the distance.

A helicopter stood right there in the space, its engine still running, though the rotors were frozen in place.

Chandler had seen his fair share of the world, but at this moment, he was so stunned he couldn't even speak.

Mariella tapped his shoulder. "Tour's over, right? Time to get to work."

She hadn't brought him in here for sightseeing. She needed him to help.

Chandler steadied himself and turned his gaze toward her. "Only a third of the space is left."

Mariella nodded.

Good. As expected of her most capable right-hand man. His judgment, awareness, and reaction speed were far beyond ordinary.

Not only had he quickly accepted this world-shattering reality, but he had also immediately spotted the most critical issue.

That was right, the static storage space was already two-thirds full, leaving only about 10,000 cubic feet remaining.

Mariella nodded and told him honestly, "If I want to expand the space, I need to get my hands on precious metals and gemstones. I ran a test, and raw emerald gives the best value."

At that, Chandler suddenly remembered something important. "Right. Tonight, Number One broke into a jewelry store and collected quite a lot. He said it was specifically for you."

Mariella froze for a second, then broke into a grin. "That's exactly what I need. He did great!"

Chandler glanced at her meaningfully. Aside from her excitement, she didn't seem to show any other reaction. It was hard to tell if she had picked up on Number One's obvious attempt to curry favor.

Of course, Chandler didn't care about that. He and Number One weren't even competing in the same arena.

There was an unspoken rule among bodyguards—never get emotionally involved with your employer.

Working hard was fine. Selling your life was fine. Selling your heart? Absolutely not.

Mariella pointed at the helicopter that was still running. "Do me a favor and shut it down."

Even though there was no fuel consumption in the static space, leaving it running indefinitely wasn't a good idea. She was worried that a prolonged operation might damage the engine.

If the helicopter broke, there wouldn't be a replacement.

Chandler opened the cabin door, stepped inside, and smoothly shut off the engine.

Mariella leaned against the window, peering in with curiosity. "You really know how to fly? Are you actually good at it?"

Chandler stepped down from the helicopter, pulled his phone, and showed her a photo of his pilot's license.

"The special forces provided helicopter training. I passed the certification."

Normally, when someone shows you something on their phone, you're supposed to just look and not start swiping.

But Mariella didn't play by the rules. She casually swiped to the next photo.

"Damn, you can drive a yacht too... Wow, you even have a nuclear submarine license? That's insane!"

Amazed, she tried to swipe again.

Chandler pulled his phone back, clearly displeased. "Please don't scroll through my phone."

Mariella looked at him with a half-smile. "What, got something to hide? Secret photos of an ex-girlfriend?"

Her tone was light, but alarm bells were ringing in her mind, a faint killing intent stirring beneath the surface.

She knew all too well how dangerous a man with a "first love he could never forget" could be, and she had learned that the hard way in her previous life.

If Chandler had someone like that, then he would become a serious liability.

"No!" Chandler denied immediately.

Seeing that it didn't ease her suspicion, he added, "I entered the military academy at sixteen. It was fully closed management, so there were only male classmates, no chance for relationships. After that, I joined the special forces. The training was intense every day. There was no time and no opportunity to date."

"And after you left the military?" Mariella didn't relax her guard. "You're good-looking, and you can fight. I'm sure plenty of girls like you."

"No." Chandler lowered his head, hiding the grief in his eyes. "Something happened to my family. After dealing with everything, it took me a long time to recover. I wasn't in the mood for a relationship."

Mariella paused. "Sorry. I didn't mean to bring up something painful."

Chandler shook his head, clearly unwilling to say more.

Mariella patted his shoulder reassuringly, her tone soft. "If I didn't trust you, I wouldn't have brought you into my storage space. This is everything I've built—my entire foundation—and now you're in on it. Captain Zimmer, don't let me down."
