Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 52: Wait for Her to Slip Up

4 min 1 views

Mariella led everyone to tour the large kitchen on the first floor.

The kitchen, roughly 800 square feet, was fitted with 12 cooking stations, with pots, knives, spatulas, plates, and basins all prepared in sets of 12.

"Whatever you like to eat, download some cooking videos on your phone," Mariella said. "Watch them a few times tonight. Starting tomorrow morning, you'll all cook your own meals. Got it?"

"Got it!" they answered in unison.

...

The storm raged all night, wind howling and rain pounding without a single break.

The next morning, the homeowners' group chat blew up again. Some villas had their windows shattered by the typhoon.

The flood coverage on TV looked even worse. In many apartment buildings, windows had been blown out, furniture and supplies swept away, leaving people with nothing.

Some residents had even been sucked out when their windows shattered, carried off by the storm and swallowed by the raging floodwaters, never to surface again.

At a time like this, the advantages of impact-resistant glass became painfully clear. And the stockpile Mariella had ordered from the renovation company was now more valuable than ever.

But when residents of Celestine Ridge whose windows had shattered started offering high prices in the group chat to buy impact-resistant glass, Mariella said nothing.

She had no intention of exposing how much she had. Besides, the disaster was only just beginning. As time went on, that glass would only become more valuable.

These homeowners were all wealthy or powerful. They'd find a way to get glass eventually. It would just cost them more time and money.

Kieran sent Mariella a private message. "They've started distributing supplies in the villa district. Come over, I saved you a share."

It was obvious he'd realized just how valuable her warning last night had been, and he was returning the favor.

"No need." She turned him down politely.

She didn't hold controlling stakes in either company and had no interest in taking advantage of the situation.

Kieran had already waived three months of her mortgage, and her warning had only been meant to stop Harvey's scheme from succeeding.

"Heh, stubborn little thing. Always so serious," the overbearing CEO slipped into a greasy flirting tone.

Mariella shuddered in disgust and sent him a "shut your damn mouth" meme, then ignored him.

...

Harvey failed to secure control over the two companies, so all he could do was assign people to assist the Hancocks, with no chance to skim anything for himself.

He was in a foul mood.

What made it worse was this.

"The assassin finally made it to the club, but after searching all five floors, he didn't find a single person. On the way back, his kayak got flipped by the typhoon. He almost lost his life. After resurfacing, he called for help, and even the helicopter we sent nearly got overturned by the storm.

"After struggling for most of the night, we finally brought the assassin back to Celestine Ridge and got him settled. A private detective agency just confirmed that Mariella moved into No. 98 at Celestine Ridge with more than a dozen bodyguards two days ago.

"Before dawn, the assassin made another trip to No. 98, but the place was like a fortress. Between the reinforced structure, impact-resistant glass, and high-voltage fencing, he couldn't find any way in or out.

"After an entire night of this, he's completely exhausted. He needs a day to recover before taking action again tonight."

Hearing this useless report, Harvey was so furious that he felt a heart attack coming on.

So after all that, they'd wasted the entire night for nothing.

This was the top-tier assassin he'd spent ten million on? What a joke.

"Harvey, don't be mad," Roxanna said gently. "We don't actually have to kill Mariella right away. She's still useful."

"I don't want to marry her anymore. I just want her dead, as soon as possible," Harvey snapped, clenching his fists.

Roxanna blinked her watery eyes and reminded him, "But if Mariella dies now, my father won't get the final share transfer. That'll affect both our inheritance."

Harvey went silent for a moment, then asked, "What do you suggest?"

"We stick to the original plan. Capture her instead of killing her," Roxanna said softly, her eyes flickering. "Now that we know she's at Celestine Ridge, we can just wait for her to slip up."

...

Mariella had no idea that a world-class assassin had spent the entire night trying to reach her, nor did she know about Harvey and Roxanna's plans.

After washing up, she went downstairs and saw everyone carrying breakfast from the kitchen into the dining room.

The spread was all over the place, and the cooking skills varied wildly, but at least it smelled decent.

"Ms. Townsend, I made breakfast for you," Matthew said, handing her a sandwich, milk, and a vegetable fruit salad.

"Thanks," Mariella said, taking it before turning to the others. "Everyone, give me a bit of what you made. I want to taste your cooking."

Chandler gave her half a steak, and the others followed, each sharing a portion from their plates.

Mariella sampled them one by one.

Before she could even finish tasting everything, someone had already spit theirs out.
